I bought Brunswick Superspeed rubber about 5 years ago and still haven't put it on... my question is how long will this stuff last without being used? Does it lose its spring or is it good forever? thanks for any help.

Hate to say but it might have been bad even before you bought it.

I went to Artemus cushions on my GC and have not regretted the purchase.

To expand on this.... About 15 years ago three rooms opened in this area with brand new GC3s. The cushions started failing almost immediately. On what you feel should be a good lag the cue ball stops in the middle of the table. Not all the cushion sections fail at the same time so you might have two very different end rails on one table. It makes every position shot a challenge.

I don't know whether the vendor problem has been solved. The manufacturer did not offer any relief to the room owners.

Super Yikes!

I played in a small local tournament recently that had Gold Crowns with Brunswick Super Speed Rails. Holy Mutha of God are they fast! Honestly I thought they were way too fast in my opinion. I managed to win but was out of line so much due to the speed of the cushions that I have little interest in playing there again. It was like pool pin ball!! There were times I watched in amazement as the cue ball would zip back and forth and up and down the table. I have a good friend that has a new Diamond Pro that was setup up by RKC with the new blue rails and that table is slow compared to the Super Speed Brunswick cushions. JMO and to the OP I have no idea how long they will last but the ones I played are in a pool hall and are at least 4 years old now..

Rubber

as a rule, starts to deteriorate after 7 years. My Dad was in the car business all his life, and rubber, in a car, would go downhill after 7 years, wipers, door rubber, fan belts, etc..

The speed off the rails that you're talking about is a result of improperly installed replacement Super Speed cushions. If I had to guess, the GC's would have been the GC1's or 2's with the cushions replaced with new Super Speeds. There's a profile difference between the Super Speeds from when they first came into production up until the later GC3's were produced. After the middle era GC3's the cushion design was changed in profile a little, but just enough that they don't have a perfect fit on the older model GC's unless the sub-rails have been re-calibrated to accept the newer K55 Super Speeds. The older Super Speeds were 1 1/8" wide measured across the top, the newer changed to 1 1/4" wide, but at the same time replacing the older cushions with newer ones the nose height turned out lower...thus, faster rails and balls hopping off the rails if the sub-rails were not modified to accept the newer K55 profile cushions;)

Wish I had that problem. My gold crown 1 has new super speed cushions and they play slow. Wish I would have went with the diamond ones.

Artemis cushions

Noticed mention in earlier post that Artemis cushions were blue. Are they replacing the red colored cushions or are both colors available? Any noticeable difference in playing characteristics?

Where did you get blue cushions from??...or do you mean blue lable Diamond rails? The cushions are pink, and always have been:grin:

Artemis cushions

In an earlier post (5th one) by quesports he mentioned having you install "blue" cushions on his Diamond table unless I misread the post. And, yes, my cushions are "pink" and I bought them directly from Diamond. Thought if I said they were pink someone would say they were red.

He was talking about the blue logo Diamond rails, they are the newly designed rails from Diamond, the red logo is the older design.
