What exactly was Buddy doing to help the U.S. team? Seems that Johan Ruijsink kept his team together and positive. WTF did Buddy do?

Archer was the captain !

Buddy was honorary captain. A nice jesture to a great player who didn't play on a cup team.

That is correct, Johnny and I talked about it and we both wanted Buddy to have a chance to be a part of the 'Mosconi Cup' ---- in hindsight they may have been throwing Buddy to "the wolves" ;)

No matter what anyone says, Buddy Hall is the best of them All. :D

Buddy was just hanging out, chill'n like a villain, sort of like a few of the players.

Honorary Captain

No where in any of the press releases on AZ or on Archer's Facebook page did it say "Honorary" to my knowledge...it said Co-Captain...just saying!

Well the board here for the most part are trashing their players. Nice huh ? I don't think so.

When USA dominated Europe I wonder if the Euro media would have done the same as our critics.

I think not !!!

I think they would be saying encouraging think like get em next year mates.

And good try men, you keep up the spirits and it will get better.

It hurts to see the insults.

I bet the players won't like it either.

Maybe they think why can;t they give us some credit and show us some class we can build on.

Buddy

I've not been on here much in the last year so i don't know if this has been posted. But last year was an incredibly tough year for Buddy. Some of his close friends might have heard about what happened. I'm not going to post the specifics out of respect, but let me tell you folks, not many of us will ever experience the horrible tragedies that befell his close family last year. So if his fellow players and friends wanted to show some respect and kindness to him whats the harm. I mean this man needed something good to happen to him. And you sure can't blame this one on him, so why don't you Buddy haters take the headhunting somewhere else this time. Because he surely doesn't deserve it.

If our guys went out there and played like they meant it. If they had actually done any real training beforehand, and they lost, then I would agree with you and Jam. But, when they treated it like they did, and got the results they deserved to get, then they also deserve the butt-kicking they got from their fans.

I know, I don't like it either. But, they deserve it. Every bit of it. Maybe, just maybe, they will take some of it to heart, and come out next year like the professionals they are supposed to be.

Nothing Against Buddy

Buddy was a great player and I am sure a lot of folks thought as Co-captain he would benefit the US Team. I for one never heard the word "honorary" mentioned...I thought he would be more involved on the front lines with the players. When Johnny was back in the practice room no one was coaching the US team.

Here are quotes that prompted me to get that idea. Truly sorry if I came off the wrong way!

Due to the added workload of being a playing captain, Archer has opted to include American pool legend Buddy Hall as his assistant captain. The Rifleman has never competed in the Mosconi Cup but the Hall of Famer has had a glittering career at the top level and will know the American team as well as anyone.

“It is an honour and a privilege to be chosen to be a part of such a wonderful event and I am so excited to be Vice Captain of the USA team. We will do whatever it takes to bring the Mosconi Cup back to USA where it belongs,” said Hall.

You have no idea what Buddy did and did not do.

Buddy tried a few times to keep Earl in check but that's an impossible task once Earl snaps.

Like I said you have no idea what Buddy contributed behind the scenes.

As a rookie on here and first time Cup watcher, i'm saddened by the overall results. However, through personal, professional, artistic and monetary stretches of our lives we have good and bad streaks.

Whatever happened where the stars aligned for Europe, they did fantastic and overall there were a LOT of unfortunate rolls for the US team.

The US will hopefully expand to include cAnAdA, Mehico and South America and have a larger pool of players to draw from.

Regardless, i'm in for watching next year and rooting every player on (except Earl the turd of the silver screen)! We might get those rolls next year :)

The US Mosconi Cup team is just a bunch of INDIVIDUAL superstars put together under the illusion they can play as a team. They can't. That fine given the fact that USA "pro" pool is an individuals game and they have to constantly looking out for themselves. As well..

The Euro Mosconi Cup Team are individuals, but at heart are a team. That's just the way they are by nature and their up bringing. Weather they win or lose.

Pool in the US is a dog eat dog world (at least on a "pro" level). All for one and one......... for themselves. It just shows on how they conduct themselves.

Buddy Hall as great a person or player he is, cannot change that amongst the players that are actually competing (US).

I think conducting oneself like a professional and Losing (and winning) like one would be a priority......

Post sums it up well...Team Europe is professionally developed and refined on a civilized human level and they have a very solid 'esprit de corps'. USA has none. Earl's behavior actually gives Team USA an excuse for losing. They can say "well, Earl snapped and embarrassed the team so that threw us all off kilter and as a result we gave up because of Earl". Then Earl blames everyone in the crowd but himself. It's a true shame and a real mess.

I'm not sure how public the information is about what was going on with all of it. I think it was pretty awesome of Johnny to get this done for Buddy & it was great to see Buddy enjoying his time there.

Buddy doesn't deserve any ill remarks. And it was a very honorable thing to have Buddy co-captain/honorary captain of the USA team. He was a great player in his own right and probably should have been on the team years ago as a player.

Prepared or not, TEAM USA came up well short of the obvious goal.

For me, I think this year's Mosconi Cup says a lot about American pool in general. The individualization of our American players has never been more transparent than what we have witnessed over the course of the last 3 days.

The true lack of unification of pool stateside is very telling. I think each player played their heart out but don't truly know how to prepare/play as a team. Team Europe played great and continuously motivated and refocused each of their team members in a genuine manner.

Regarding Earl, it was a great documentary about him. I believe we all hoped he would come out and play with class in victory and humility in defeat. However, we still got Earl; love him or hate him! He's still Earl and the Europeans seem to love him for his unpredictability and volatile personality.

I do hope the TEAM uses this lesson constructively and prepares accordingly next year!

Congrats to Team Europe...they played great!

Buddy deserves our respect

One thing to lose to a very good European team, but another thing to tear into our greatest American players, and especially it's Captain, the great Buddy Hall. Shame on you people, everyone of our team members are beautiful guys who are now faced with dim futures unless someone like Coca-Cola or Wal Mart Inc. desires to donate a couple of million a year for a much needed pool tour, but let's face it, prolly won't happen. My best for all the team members and Buddy, God Bless you all.
