I believe it was called East High Billiards - was it still on the upper floor when you were there?
IIUC - the infamous 526 table would have still been there.

East High Billiard Club (on East High Street). I think a community college building is there now.
Interesting. There appear to be (at least) 2 Springfield High Schools (one in Springfield and one in Lakemore near Akron) and 2 Springfield Townships (one near Cincinnati and one near Akron) in Ohio. East High Billiards Club was located in Springfield, OH, which is the town between Dayton and Columbus that Jay mentioned.

Why would you advise to avoid the military? It's not like he has to carry a machine gun through the streets of Afghanistan. The guy who set up the fundraisers at the gym made almost as much as I did and he gets FREE college after a few years of service. I think it's a great place for a young adult to learn about responsibility.

The military teaches MANY valuable skills and traits that will help you succeed in the civilian world. Getting FREE (earned) college after serving is lagniappe.
Buddy would do well to reach out to Peter Ross who wrote about different things that the military taught him.

I base thing only on my own experience. I buy Toyota vehicles because I've had a good experience with them vs other vehicles I've owned.
I had two years of college majoring in computer programming - working on a railroad track crew on the days I didn't have college to make cash so I could eat and have a roof over my head. Military recruiter came on base one day and I went to see him. I asked if I joined would the military send me to school for computer programming. He said absolutely with my associates degree. 100%. No problem. We're begging for people in computer programming. Great I figured - I'll get paid to go to school and get four years of experience in computer programming. I joined, got to boot camp, found out the recruiter was full of $#*!. Ended up in Vietnam killing people I'd never met and whose name I did not know. Four years later I went back to work driving spikes on the railroad with a wife and a kid on the way. No time to finish college, too busy working and raising a family. Four years in the military I made a total of $10,000 dollars.
My advice - go to college or a technical school. You will have a better life and make more money than if you join the military. If you talk to a recruiter don't believe a word he says because he will blow smoke up your ^$$ to get you to join just to reach his quota. Pool hustlers have more integrity.
I give people my honest opinion based upon my experience.
If he is smart, for the long haul, he will continue to play, and get a college education. He can then get a good paying job if pool won't earn him a living. If I had to do it all over again, I can assure you I would have a college education.
