Bugs' Birthday

Visited Bugs yesterday (7/25) and dropped off another G Whiz from the raffle. I am dropping off the cheese in cash segments since Bugs has (incredibly) no way to cash a check. There are two more checks coming from Steve Booth, and it takes a little time for me to convert the checks to cash myself. I gave Bugs as many good wishes from forum members as I could remember, and he was well pleased.
I also reminded him of the little support he received from his hometown folks. When he was celebrated in Derby City for the Hall of Fame ceremony, many hometowners had him pose for pictures with them. The pics are probably up in a place of honor in their game rooms. They feel the civic pride, but not enough to help Bugs out. But to all other good people I say this again: Thanks a lot, you have restored this skeptics heart in the faith of the depth of our humanity.
One last note. Bug's birthday is coming up. He will be 69 on August 18th.
One last, last note. Because Bugs knew I was coming, when I got there he was wearing one of my Banking With The Beard T-shirts! Whatta guy.

I always said you had a heart Freddie, underneath that all knowing smirk of yours. You are a GOOD FRIEND!, all kidding aside.

Could you PM me Bugs' address? Me and mine would like to send him a birthday card.

That's cool that he was wearing the Banking with the Beard T-shirt. I am sure he appreciates all of the good cheer you are sending his way. :)

Fred,
Thanks for the great update and refreshing news. Do you recall what size T-Shirt his wears? I would like to send a small gift for you to give him :)

(To follow Steve's effort, perhaps we should have an mailing address for people to send him Bday gifts)

Freddy,

You're not only my favorite commentator for one-pocket, you are a good man (who knew? :p). Thanks for helping Bugs in his moment of need. Clearly his wearing your t-shirt tells you all you need to know how he feels about you and what you're doing for him!

Please, no more cudos

Please, all these aspersions being cast on my "new found character" are giving me a bad name and are making me very uncomfortable. Thanks anyway, but I would much rather be remembered as a cold-blooded, turned-out, merciless hustler who played a ball, in treachery, under Pancho, Cornbread, Irvolino and New York Blackie (all childhood heroes of mine).

Sir, I regret to inform you, they could all give you the 5! You always blew it by laughing after you trapped your man.

Only you, Jay

This is so Freddy-like, and another reason why you are such a beloved poster here. We know you didn't do this for anything back in return, but don't deny us the blessing of sharing how ...( dare I utter these words in a manly fashion)...how dear you are to us.
Long before you started this benevolent act towards Bugs, you and Grady were already my heros. So, you'll be remembered as a "cold blooded, turned out, merciless hustler, who relished treachery", but a lovable one at that.
XOXOXOX :)

We hear you - the raffle is over - but so what.

Lets keep this thing going, get something in place, and keep hammering the home town crowd.

Bugs still has a need and those who could not or did not contribute still can help out.

Freddy - If you make it easier for folks to contribute, you remove one more excuse for them not to contribute.

I really feel blessed and honored that you all made it possible for me to contribute.

Happy birthday Bugs ! Hope to get to meet Grady, Freddy and Steve at the Derby this year, if you guys plan on going.

I just set up a Paypal "donation" account for anyone who missed out on the raffle but would still like to help Bugs out. It is on the One Pocket Hall of Fame home page:
http://onepocket.org/fame.htm

Like I did for the raffle, I will donate the Paypal fee so that all of your contributions go to Bugs.

You guys have got HEART!

This is my Credo. It's an excerpt from The Foreward in my book, The GosPool:

... Plus, no matter what I might say about anybody, it's all in fun. The truth is, I deeply love the game and all of the pool players, regardless of lifestyle or character. The sinners and the rogues I love best of all. I have the greatest amount of respect for pool ability. I know what a commitment it takes to be able to play.
