Build a champion in a month or 2. Is this possible?

How so? First off, to claim people have been "muzzled" when this is not so is more than a little self-righteous. Second, while the stories are amusing, if my son told me he was going out on the road to learn how to hustle pool -- when if you put a bald-faced label on it, this is what it is -- then I'd have "a problem" with it. (First with him, followed closely by the guy luring him into it.) No matter how romantic a spin you put on it, you are basically sending this kid out to be a grifter. So.... I guess we can all read the story, enjoy it, be entertained and just be thankful it is not own our boy (at 23). IMO, that's why Scott's comments not uncalled for.

And so, Scott, though I cannot speak for him, was pointing out (to the prig) that, no, so sorry, no one has been muzzled; yes, some folks still have a problem with some of this; and, oh by the way: wouldn't it be smarter -- if you actually had a minuscule and true shred of Geno's best interests at heart -- to let sleeping dog lie instead of challenging Scott to list the issues?

Guess not. It just goes to show who the real s-stirs on the site really are ;-)

Lou Figueroa

I'm not sure if this is all aimed at me, or other folks. First off, I think we have had more than enough shit stirred in this thread. Calling Gene's post "BS" is what I was referring to. Given that Scott is not a big fan of Gene, I would say that his statement is "uncalled for." We are all enjoying a quality read here, and for some one to derail this thread just seems, less that right.

The thing is I have met these guys, and Zack isn't out there hustling. He's matching up. He's not dogging balls looking to set guys up, and Gene isn't showing him that. As far as I can tell from reading this and meeting them in person, Gene gives him slight suggestions this way and that, and is really more focused on teaching the kid how to survive in pool and on the road. I you don't think SVB, Johny, Earl, or any other "names" didn't do what this kid is doing right now, you are mistaken.

I actually think Gene gives Zack a lot more life lessons than pool lessons. You can think whatever you like Lou. I respect and value, you, and your opinions, but I think you might be a little bit off on this one. If you meet these two in person, it is OBVIOUS that Gene cares more about setting this kid up for success in the long haul. I actually think Gene really cares if Zack succeeds or fails, which is a hell of a lot more than you get from most people in the pool world.

I for one am pulling for you guys!! (Gene & Zack)

best,

Justin

P.S.- I tried sending you a PM Lou but your inbox was full.

Zach is now a Certified Perfect Aim Teacher

It's official. I sent some fliers to Zachs computer and he will hopefully do some lessons this weekend in the Appleton area.

This is kind of a no brainer seeing as he has helped me with about a dozen lessons already. Sometimes I would get to the poolhall after Zach and he would be working with one of the students that I taught the day or 2 before.

This young man really does have a passion for helping anyone with their game already. He just loves the game.

Myself, I will be taking it easy. There is a 9 ball tourny friday at 7:00 at a bar called Fuzzys, just outside of Menomonie. $20 entry fee with no money added. Don't know how many players there will be for sure.

Sat starting at 10:00 there is a partners 8 ball tourny with $1000 added.

I probably won't play in that because of my back. It will be drawn out all day and night. But I deffinitely will be there sat afternoon passing out fliers and setting up some more Perfect Aim lessons.

This is a great little tournament for the area.

But I'm really excited to get Zach started teaching Perfect Aim.

The more I see the more I know that I made the right choice by having Zach with me on the road.

I just came up with a new one here.:groucho:

What's better than one Perfect Aim teacher on the road?

2 Perfect Aim teachers on the road.:dance:

Pool going strong at home.......

I've been in Eau Claire, Wi since Christmas and I'm pleasantly surprised at how strong the pool world is here.

This weekend there were 3 tournaments within 60 minutes of each other and it seems they all had pretty good turnouts. Considering that there is no Poolhalls per say in the area I'say that is pretty sweet.

I'm going to be at Fuzzys in Menomonie today give and setting up lessons for Mon, Tue, and wed. They have a $1000 added partners tourny that started today at 10:00. looks like they are closing in on 32 teams.

Then there is a tourny in Bloomer that is about a 60 minute drive. This is a singles tourny I think.

And then there is a 3 man team tourny in Plum city. About a 60 minute drive from Menomonie.

At Fuzzys there was a 9 ball tourny last night, Friday, race to 5.
I played in this but we ran out of time. I will play Chad D in the final match. Race to 5. I'm down 4- 2 and we need to finish it today. Good Luck.

So it's a race to one. Chad only needs one games and I need to win every ONE :rotflmao1:

It sure is fun to see all the old faces that I grew up with in the area. many of these players I havn't seen for years.

And the younger ones look at me and seem to say to themselves, So that's him. The guy we heard so much about. The poolplayer.

It's so much fun meeting everyone.

There is no place like home. And these last few days I'm here sure tell the story on that one.

Wed Zack and myself will be hitting the road again. Don't know which way we are going but it looks like Cincy is in the cards.

That will get us closer to the Derby and I don't want Zach to miss that one.

It isn't that he's going to be this great big surprise that wins everything but he will surprise some players. It's another stepping stone to becoming a Champion. Sometimes you need to compete against the best to jump start that inner drive.

This is what needs to be ignited. That inner drive. The drive that forces you to do whatever you need to do to win.

Zach has all the want. Once that inner drive gets ignited and stays there for a month or 2 look out world.

Remember I said this. I'm not kidding.

I'll be picking up Zach Wed and be heading south. From there we will figure out which way to go but it will be towards Derby country for sure.

One stop on the way.

You guys want to stop in Columbus Ohio. Ill give either 1 of you 10 8 playing 1 pocket. Ill give the kid the 8 playing 10 ball and you the 9 playing 10 ball

Thanks for the offer..........

Hi there Chris,

I have been healing up my back for 2 weeks so my playing is pretty limited right now. I don't know what kind of shape Zach will be in when I pick him up Wed.

It looks like either Cincy or Indy will be the stop. Need to get the kid back on track and I'm going to do what I do best and teach. I'm going to play some but I need to be careful. One of the hazards of being 60. Right now I can't even play much over an hour

Hope to see you at Derby. Good Luck...........

Got the plan mapped out...........

I talked to Zach today and he is going to stick in Appleton doing drills and getting ready for the Derby. He will be in all three events.

Being on the road would be counter productive. Tired and wore out.

I will be leaving Eau Claire Wed and will be heading south. I'll be playing in the 9 ball at the derby and that will be all. There will be lots of players to teach and talk to about Perfect Aim. I'm sure I will be running into so many players that I have talked to over the last 4 years. It should be fun.

Depending how I feel I might even get into some action but I doubt it. Just driving in the car seems almost like mission impossible right now.

I'm probably going to Cincy or Indy. It all depends on where I have the most lessons to do. When i'm not doing lessons i will be playing. I've had a few weeks off with a screwed up back. I had back surgery back in 2000. Was working on my mothers sink and couldn't stand up afterwards. Ended up in the ER.

Ready to go now but still kind of fragile feeling. Just need to stay out from under sinks. You think I would learn. I didn't do very well under the motorhome either.

After the Derby Zach and myself will be back on the road again. I think Zach will have some new found respect for the road also. He growing up fast in a real tough world. Just have to see how it plays out.

I will be deciding tomorrow where I will be heading for sure. One thing is certain though. It will be south and it will be warmer and there will be no smoking or I'm out of there.

Anyone looking to learn Perfect Aim from here to Louisville let me know. i might just be going right by your house.

2 men a van and the road.................

Thanks for the heads up.............

Beloit tenball this weekend, easy pickens.

I had no idea this 10 tourny was this weekend. How can I turn this down. It's right on the way.

I havn't been playing much but this would be a great way to get the desire flowing again.

As far as easy pickins, I don't know about that. We got a bucket load of great players including yourself, here in Wisconsin and the surrounding areas.

It will be fun to see the whole gang again.

It's always kind of like a family reunion without the cake and cookies.

Looking forward to it.

Plus that Carom Room runs a great tournament also. Great equipment. Good food and tough competition.

See everyone there.................

What Zach had to say tonight almost floored me.......

Zach had some friend in Appleton that was maybe going to put him in the Derby events and pay for his room there.

I talked to zach tonight and things just didn't pan out with his friend.

He had allot to say and I just sat and listened.

He's had time to sit and think about what we did right on the road and what we did wrong. When I said we, I had to let Zach make these mistakes because that is how you learn. I knew we were making mistakes but it was hard to stop Zach because he is a competitor. And that is a good thing.

He was all about not making these mistakes again in fact he wants to start teaching more and he has allot to offer. I sure wish I would have been where he is at when I was 23 years old.

He's experienced how much fun it is to help players everywhere we go. He's pitched in and helped teach in many of the poolhalls. I could see he just loved it.

He's grown up about 10 years in just a few months. If I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it.

When he told me he didn't care if we went to the Derby or not I was just floored. That's all he talked about for a long time.

I like the way he's thinking. He's thinking like a champion. He knows he needs to get better. As we travel around and teach he can play. Work on drills and still play $100 or $200 sets with everyone.

He got a little taste of trying to play for the bigger money not being ready and playing and playing until your so wore out you can't play well anymore.
This is not a fun part of pool. Getting wore down so you can't play well.

Now we can work on the disapline. Keeping in shape and being ready to play all the time. Being ready to teach and help players when he can. Being rested and taking care of yourself.

We're going to meet in Beloit this Sat at the Carom room. Play in their tourny and go from there.

Can't wait to get back on the road again and it sounds like Zach feels the same way.

Only this time a little wiser.

Time will tell if the lessons will stick. Sometimes we need to relearn. But I think I got a fast learner here.

Perfect Aim lessons sunday at the Carom Room........

Just in case there is an AZer or 2 in the Beloit area that have wanted to learn Perfect Aim I will be there on Sunday giving lessons.

I have one young man coming over from Des Moines so we'd have to work around his lesson but that should be pretty easy if your from the area.

Come on down and enjoy the action this Saturday. Should be a big one.

See ya there............call me at 715-563-8712

jhanso18...First of all you need to get your info straight before posting. My last post only said that some of Geno's posts have some BS in them...not all. I also only posted to let Joey know that nobody has been "muzzled" by mods or anybody else. That's the truth. I also mentioned, in the same post, that I was enjoying the thread too. That's not "derailing" the thread! I've posted maybe 4 posts out of 33 pages...and you apparently call that "sh!t stirring"? They're supposedly "on the road" looking for action, but apparently Chris Bartrum is too tough action for Geno & Zack...even with a spot! Maybe CB will woof at them at the DCC, and get them to play!

please stop posting in gene's threads. you make yourself look like an a$$. you give gene and zach a hard time about not wanting to play CB. he is out of there league. it would be like me offering you the 8.... you just can't get there. don't you have some lessons to give

Zach may have grown up 10 years in just a few months but he's still a puppy with a lot to learn. In the REAL world, people have jobs that provide stable income so that they can provide for themselves and their families. Once Zach discovers this basic concept, maybe he won't need to ask others to put him in tournaments and pay for his room there.

If Zach truly wants to play in the Derby then he needs to learn how to save and invest his money and not gamble it all away. When Zach starts taking control of his life and his destiny, then perhaps he will start thinking like a "champion."

My thoughts exactly and I think this is what Zach has come to realize.

At 23 I had all kinds of illusions. He's way ahead of the game at 23 for sure. The lessons he is learning here with me are not only with pool but life in general.

He's a good kid and there is allot to work with here. And he does have a passion for teaching.

We'll just have to see if we can blend the 2 of them together.

I like the idea of 2 of us out there helping players with their games. The kid has allot to offer.

Thanks for the input..........

In the real world if you are a self-employed entrepreneur then sometimes you ask others to invest in your projects.

Athletes in all fields routinely ask for both investment and sponsorship.

In fact in the real world more often than not the people who build companies do it on other people's money and not their own.

John Schmidt came on here and asked for sponsorship to the US Open. He then won it. Paid off good for him and his investor. Poker pros are routinely backed in both tournaments and cash games.

In fact people are eager to back winners and those who show potential. I just don't understand the advice which seems to be quit following this dream and become a working slave to an 8 hour a day job. In other words become the type of person who only talks about those who are out playing instead of being the person who is out there playing.

I mean I can understand the desire for stability and security but why are we assuming that Zach is irresponsible? Why are we assuming that he does not already understand these things? If he is 23 and unattached then why not allow him the opportunity to run with this for a while and see what happens. One thing is certain, he will never get this experience if he gives in to the standard version of society's notion of what a person is supposed to do with their life. But if he goes with it then no matter what he will always have these memories and experiences that others can only dream about.

I guarantee he will still play plenty......

In todays world it is really tough to play pool on the road and make it.

I play allot but i also do allot of lessons.

If i couldn't play the game I love it would be pretty tough to just teach unless I jacked the price way up.

My playing and my teaching compliment each other. I think this is what zach has seen out here on the road first hand.

When the bankroll is getting smaller and i do about 5 more lessons it gets pumped up real quick.

Teaching will enable Zach to be on the road and play forever if he want.

I've been on the road about 3 years out of the last 4. Only reason I missed the year 6 months at a time was shoulder surgery and the motorhome mishap.

If Zach wasn't out here seeing it he couldn't believe it. We got a working formula here and the biggest reason we do is Perfect Aim is the answer for everyone.

I'm not just giving pool lessons.

I'm out here revolutionizing the way players aim out here one player at a time. At some point layers are going to realize this is the real deal.

That's one of the reasons I was so excited when I first started teaching this. I was rideculed allot but I never waivered.

If everyone bought a video and learned Perfect Aim we wouldn't be able to travel and teach and amaze players everywhere.

I guess we'll just have to keep having fun teaching our little secret as we go.

I could go into any poolhall, and I might just do this. Offer everyone in the place a $100 bill. Then we start with the Perfect Aim lesson. If it's not the best thing you have ever seen since you have been playing pool we can quit the lesson after 15 minutes and they can keep the hundred.

If they like what they see, which they will, they learn the whole Perfect Aim lesson and then they give me back the $100 plus the $200 for the complete lesson. And they get the video with it so they will never forget how this works.

I've done this about 50 times in the last 6 months. My last high profile player to do it with was Donny Branson. He's now shooting the best pool of his life I heard out in Vegas. We offered him $500 at Big Dogs in Des Moines if it was not the best thing he had ever seen. He gladly paid for the lesson...........and it was a player that had gotten the Perfect Aim lesson a week before this that put up the $500. He knew his $500 was safe. he knew perfect Aim.

With something like Perfect Aim to teach Zach will have no trouble staying on the road without me.

2 men a van and the road. In Beloit Wi. Carom Room. Shooting for 1st and 2nd tomorrow. Tough tourny. 10 ball.

Sounds like you need someone in the South to teach Perfect Aim in all these smoke filled pool halls LOL...

You still heading for derby or out based on the fall thru on his friend putting Zach in it????

Chris <---- Happens to live in the South LOL

If Zach or anyone else can get other people to sponsor them and pay their bills, that's great. More power to them. However, not everyone will be able to get financial support and for those people they need to invest in themselves if they want to achieve their goals.

In an earlier posting, Gene wrote: "When he (Zach) told me he didn't care if we went to the Derby or not I was just floored. That's all he talked about for a long time." Zach was really looking forward to playing in the Derby but apparently had to cancel his plans due to a lack of financial backing and his own personal lack of funds. If Zach had saved some of his gambling winnings, he might have been able to play in the Derby even without his backer's support. That's called being in charge of your destiny. You decide what's important and you do it regardless of the obstacles in your way.

I actually think its to Zach's advantage to play in tournaments like the Derby and the US Open. He's 23 but he is approaching a cross-roads in deciding whether to pursue this sport as a career. This is the time for Zach to find out if he has the talent, the skills and the desire to pursue his dream of becoming a champion.

I'm not sure that it makes much sense to compare pool to other more lucrative sports like golf and tennis. SVB made about 148K in 2012, however, 30th place on the 2012 AZB Money List made just 22K playing in tournaments. The reality of the situation is that most pool players, including Zach, are going to have to supplement their tournament incomes by doing something else to help pay the bills.
