Bushka on the market....

Thats right, and the point is Bushka sponsored no one. Most pro's do not play with custom cues, Rodney Morris, and Kim Davenport are the only two that come to mind that use "non" give away pool cues.

JV

That's where the 'etc' kicks in. My point is that if other fine cue makers were making cues in that era then other cues would be associated with the champions of that era.

Maybe my examples aren't the best. I have no idea what professionals play with, I've always assumed its whoever sponsored them.

I understand, but when comparing cuemakers of different era's, its like comparing Unitas to Brady. However there are common variables and the most consistent variable is who used them for what.

So I mean I get it, the prices are obscene.

I sell cues, I will say this, it is amazing to me to see the cuemakers that would rather sell a cue to someone who wants to show his friends that his pecker is the biggest ($$$), instead of selling to someone that has the desire to win it all.

JV

That's a valid point. I don't have enough experience in vintage cues to assess any of those competitors except maybe Joss.
I was simply trying to say in my experience in shooting with a Balabushka it was not significantly better than my Joss. (to me)

Would I love to have one... hecks ya! Would I play with it no matter what it was worth? Again.... hecks ya!

OK if thats the case how, come those names aren't associated with any of the champions TODAY.

To be fair, lets have a running tab of cuemakers that made cues in Bushka's time.

Martin
Rambow
Paradise
Palmer
Viking
Gina
Joss
Laube
Spain

Thats a pretty good list of hall of fame cuemakers, can we agree on that? He out sold them all, period. No disrespect to any name on that list, but Bushkas were used to win more championships from 1960-1975, without question. This is not rhetoric, its fact. It would absolutely kill him to know his cues are now closet queens because of their value as a collectible and not a surgical ball pocketing instrument.

JV

So I guess cuetec would be the best now using those standards

More than anything else, I think this is a testament to how much production cues have improved over the past 40 years. The difference in performance between a tweaked production cue and a top custom cue has narrowed significantly.

And by what cues do you think most of these guys dissected to be able to build them like they do? The only exception would be Ernie.

You are using only part of the mind to say such a thing. Cuetec would not even be seen in a pro's hands if it was not for money. World Champions of the past had to buy their cues from George and others. When they have to lay their money out, yeah, you would see a drastic change in what pro's use.

Well for starters its the whole indian / arrow principal AND if you're good enough to play with anything then the meal ticket card comes into play.

JV

No, we are talking custom cues. But you could compare them to Mezz, I guess.

JV

I have a Mezz with a WD700 shaft and if its all just about the playing ability and not name or looks I would take it over all of them bar none

Now put another shaft on those cues then u got something the best innovation in the last 50 yrs in pool is LD shafts IMHO

.

Thanks - I would like to hit some balls with it. They really do play pretty good.

Gina had a lot of pros later on, but they were mainly west coast.

Point is all the good players wanted a Balabushka, but as the values rose they cashed them out.

Looks like a nice cue.

Bringing $25K would be good for the market (which is soft right now.)

i got lots of Bushka's for $25,000 for sale, ALL of mine at that price, all are nicer than the OP.

Best
