Butterfly Splices

PAUL IS THE SPLICING MAN.....PROBLEM IS, NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE GET TO SEE HIS STUFF. HE'S WAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE, EVEN TO THE POINT WHERE CUEMAKERS LOOK AT HIS CUES, AND CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW THEY WERE DONE.

These couple of cues can be considered the epitomy of Paul's earlier work: http://classiccues.com/graphics/cues/cues_all/fanelli/fanelli_mark_joe.jpg

Note the overlapping butterfly veneers, coming down the joint and up from between the points.

Now THIS, is the kind of insane stuff he's working on now: http://classiccues.com/graphics/cues/853_fore_1_hi.jpg

Those bridged points are perfect, btw.

Al Bautista

Al Bautista in the Philipines built me a very pretty cue, with butterfly splices.

Bumping a cool thread.

Any more butterflies to show off?

How about more of those old butterfly conversions?

Those are two great looking twins. With all that artistic work, I like the way Paul blended those simple rings/ boarder. Very nice

All the veneer colours and almost wood sections are opposite to each other, it really is impressive the way he has done it...

Great cues are great cues. My personal fav of the top three is the upper in gray. I think I will go play some pool today.

I'm glad I bumped this thread!

Great cues!

BHQ- It isn't a butterfly, but that conversion is sweet. People seem to often ignore the later ones as not "real" Titlists. I have to say that I really dig the way you documented it under the wrap. Very cool.

butterfly cue

Here's an interesting cue. Does anyone have an idea who the maker is?

Actually, it's a Katz made in the 40's that was refinished by Neighbors awhile back.
