I always play with LePros but am interested in experimenting with some new tips. I am looking at Kamui Black mediums. What are your thoughts on any of the Kamui line such as hit/action/wear etc.

I tried a Kamui Black SS and thought it was crap. I later learned that it was installed incorrectly. You do NOT use liquid glue (Super Glue) on Kamui tips. It just ruins them. You need to use a gel type glue. Kamui recommends Loctite gel.

I had an rc3 cue a while back and put a Kamui Black Medium on it. They are AMAZING tips!!!! The grip and feel are incredible.

I will give the Black Soft and Hard a try just for the heck of it, but IMO the Kamui Black Medium is THE TIP which all others will be measured against!!!

Hey, Duane-

I feel the same as Mike on this one except I use the Kamui Black Hard tip. Best tip I ever hit with.

I have been using a Kamui Black Medium for about two months and I is a good tip. However, I am not too picky and will play with almost any medium or hard layered tip.

I am really pleased with the Kamui's performance, so much so, I use them as standard on our CA$H cues.

Great tip, I have a Kamui Black Medium on all my players. They grip the shooter nice and hold their shape real well.

Hated the Kamui SS,also tried the medium, but cut it off the next day for an Everest tip.So far,I like the Everest way better than any Kamui, but you know what they say opinions are like!! I personally like the Everest med.,Moori med,and a waterbuffalo tip on my break cue.

Hey dj,

I know you like hard tips, but I was wondering if you have ever played with the Kamui Black Medium? I'm only asking because I wanted to see if they hard was a LOT harder, or just slightly firmer, especially after playing with one for a while.

If anybody else has some input there, that would be great, too.

Thanks!

Well thannks for all the TIPS guys. Ohhh that was bad. Guess I'm gonna have to givem a try. Kamui Black medium here I come.

Mike-

I never played with a Kamui Black medium. Most threads I have seen on this subject convey the idea that the kamui black is harder than most tips at all levels, s/m/h.

Good for you. You can probably mark this day down as the day you made the LAST decision on tips, since you won't need to look around any more.

dj,

Thanks for the input. I really love the feel of the Black Medium, but was just wondering how much firmer the Hard is. The Medium seems to play better now than when I got it, so that's why I thought if I liked the feel of the Medium after it's broken in, maybe the Hard would be even better. I'm just in no rush to try one since I like the Medium so much!

I am not sure whether you guys notice this about Kamui tips in general, it does give out a sharp sound after a certain hit. It sounds "hard" as compared to moori tips. I love kamui black tips too but I find them a mess when installing them on my cues.

I have heard that they are not the nicest to install. Not that they are hard to install, but instead of the leather on a *normal* tip curl off when you cut it, the Kamui Black tips tend to come off like dust or lint. I haven't heard any problems with the glue, or the tips holding shape. It just seems like installation is a bit of a pain.

Of course, the results are more than worth it in my book!

The Kamui Black is harder than the level represents. I first got a KB soft to compare to the Sniper which is my preferred tip and found it to be harder than the Sniper. I will say that I really liked how they looked, shaped, held chalk and applied spin to the CB. I just got a KB SS in the other day and will put it on tomorrow after dinner. I'll reply with comparison this weekend.

I will say that if you like a hard tip that looks good, shapes great and holds chalk great you will absolutely love the Kamui Black. I prefer softer tips so unless the SS is imo better than a Sniper it just may not be for me.

I installed the first one by hand and while it was a little more difficult than a Sniper or Moori I wouldn't say it was a serious pain to install. I picked up a mini lathe the other week so it will definitely be easier no matter what this time.

Put it on today with my lathe. I had a little trouble cutting the tip flush with a razor knife so I used a high speed cutter to get it. I had no problems at all shaping the tip with my leather knife. They do powder when cutting and shaping so that is a little messy, but outside of that it was pretty easy.

I also did something that seemed a little crazy at first, but worked out great. New tips are pretty tall....much taller than I want them so I thought about a way to cut em down quickly without burning em up. I was going to use a razor knife, but figured that would heat up too much. I then came up with the idea of using a coping saw and it worked out great. I just put the shaft in the chuck set the saw on the section I wanted cut and hit the pedal. It sliced through quickly and cleanly.

I'll post my thoughts on the Kamui Black super soft tomorrow after a days play. I'll be comparing it to my favorite tip which is the Tiger Sniper.
