Normally I don't post but if anyone has experience with knee replacement recovery and pool playing please chime in. The knee is fine and works fantastic....I was told because I am bow legged that the straight leg is indeed a bit longer than the other. All my long shots are drifting toward the new knee. Anyone else incur this ?

Wear a thicker sock on the foot of the short leg, youll be fine.

All kidding aside, any big change in your body can affect your stance. I blew my back out 20 years ago, and my stance has had to change a few times in those years as a result of my ability or lack there of to bend etc.

Best thing to do is spend some focused time working on your stance and preshot routine again. You will soon fall back into place.

I had my right knee replaced Oct. 25. I shoot right handed. It took about 3 months to be able to walk around the table w/o a little pain and stiffness. The hardest for my knee was standing still as the knee stiffens from inactivity. Another real pain was sitting in the high chairs at most pool halls and bars. Bending your knee to rest your foot on the rail under the seat can be tough. High "pool chairs" like the Brunswicks and Diamonds are more comfortable as the foot rest is out further from the chair and the knee doesn't bend as much. Your physical therapist will want you to reach a goal of about 125 degrees for a knee bend. Reaching that is one thing. Sitting in a bar chair for several hours is different. It can be brutal.

I was using a walker for the first 6 weeks and then walking w/o one as my strength built up. No cane use is recommended for knee replacement post therapy. I was shooting pool again at about the sixth week. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck with your operation and recovery.

Thanks Rick had mine done in april and was back to work in 5 weeks the recovery is fantastic. I have similar pangs as you do but my long shots are off I'm switching to a triangle tip to "start with basics" the see.

Best thing I ever did, good chance I wouldn't be playing as much today if I didn't do it.
Most important thing is do the theraphy.

My right knee replacement was a year ago July (I am right handed as well). I experienced problems with my hamstring IT band and lower back for 8 to 10 months. PT helped a lot and after I ran out of coverage I engaged a personal trainer twice a week. Initially I had balance issues on my right side as well. My balance is improving but it takes a lot of work and effort:

1) get on the bike every day and strengthen your quads
2) I do 3X20 heel raises every day — this really helped
3) Squats and hamstring exercise are important as well.
