Can pool be played on a cruise ship?

The basketball game tomorrow aboard the air craft carrier got me wondering:

Is pool played on ships? What about aboard jumbo jets, such as a 747, or a DC-10?

I prefer to keep my feet planted on terra firma, so I'm clueless about this stuff. Educate me, AZ.

I would say this isn't really feasible, meaning the amount it would cost to do it effectively would be too high just for somebody to bang some balls.

for sure

They have a table that moves with the pitching of the waves. Its hard to play cause the table is staying dead level but you are moving with the floor so you are going up and down when in your stance. But is its calm seas you wont notice the adjustment.

Yes. A few years back one cruise line was taking applications for on board billiard instructors.

Yep, also heard there is a Cruise Ship Aiming system....something called "jumping the shark"... ;)

On American Idol, Simon Cowell, in the later rounds, often accused a mediocre singer as having given a cruise ship performance. Sounds like a cruise ship performance in pool would be similarly mediocre.

...and do not even think of leaning on the table to reach a shot. It may affect the balance of the table, making the balls roll all over the place.

A local instructor actually took such a job. He enjoyed it. I think the deal is that you get the cruise for free but have to pay $50/day for meals and give a few hours of lessons/tournaments per day. Oh, and get yourself to the port for departure.

I looked into it a few years ago. Got accepted just could not come up with dates that would work.

Hi I'm having a coffee and lurking through some forums. I've posted this before but though I would add it to this thread.

There's footage around of Ralph Greenleaf playing on a plane.

I played a charity event on the Intrepid which is permanently docked in NYC. Every time I turned around, the balls were in a slightly different place.

in the late 60's or early 70's

there was a bar in the harbor of long beach calif, on the water, but tied to the dock. it was an old cattle barge that had been converted. it had a pool table. was not very level and when a ship passed the whole bar rocked gently back and forth, enough to move the balls on the table, not much for serious play, but it was a lot of laughs.
