I guess I missed that part too! The post was all about the way the pros behave.
I guess I missed that part too! The post was all about the way the pros behave.
I never specified "pros" behaving like this. I simply said "If someone" and "players" in general. This is the overall attitude of many players in the game that think they are God's gift to the game and walk on water. I never said ANYTHING about it being amongst PRO players. I'm indicating that ALL players that ask for more money or expect an all expense paid free ride to make "professional level money" need to FIRST learn to act, present and market themselves in a "professional manner". Enough about this. Let's not dwell on interpretation of my post but rather the original poster's efforts being taken for granted by those who want to put in their 2 cents but don't put up a dollar.![]()
In a long race Shane would win pretty much all the time in a short race there are many no names that could not only compete but win a short set against Shane,, anyone who does not think so does not spend much time outside thier local pool hall
Hey Scott, my friend, you hit the nail right on the head but PLEASE.... LEAVE "SAND" OUT OF IT! Thanks! LOL
Kimberly darling, you are doing a GREAT thing and those WORTHY of all your hard efforts will APPRECIATE them. If someone cannot appreciate a great opportunity presented to them, just leave them behind. Very few players in the game have a following or "draw" at this time and therefore have nothing to offer YOU. Don't get me wrong, there are some out there and even THEY don't ask for much and know how to appreciate others efforts for THE GAME and everyone overall and not just their own pitiful selfish worthless selves. If you want to be PAID like a professional, then ACT like a professional. If it is your full-time JOB to play, then YOU as the player are responsible for your OWN transportation to WORK, your own appropriate suit & tie (entry fee) and also your ACTIONS while on the work site. If you don't ABIDE like everyone else PROFESSIONALLY and ACCORDINGLY, don't be surprised if you get sent home for the day, have to meet with Human Resources or even get DOCKED PAY for misbehavior. Be happy YOU HAVE A JOB and learn to APPRECIATE IT! Perhaps if you learned how to MARKET YOURSELF as a professional and present yourself professionally, some CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS may actually come your way.![]()
We must teach the ignorant ones (not all of them are this way) how to "play the game" for the betterment of the sport for EVERYONE to succeed and the GAME to grow.
It's NOT all about YOU! This whole "Me me me" attitude must cease so that POOL can move forward and catch up to Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Sorry for the CAPS everyone but I only did it on the important parts. LOL![]()
Some pros in other sports demand appearance fees and other perks. There was a German promoter who got into a public spat over Steffi Graf allegedly asking him for a hefty appearance fee in his tournament. Iirc that is.
The players that are worth covering their expenses are far more likely to place high in the tournament, so it becomes a catch 22, should they get their expenses paid over other players who aren't as likely?
I could see, maybe offering to setup expenses that would be subtracted from any winnings that they receive, but beyond that, I wouldn't see the added benefit of doing it.

After reading this post and hearing the attitude you come across with.
I find it disturbing that you say
"Perhaps if you learned how to MARKET YOURSELF"
Who talked down about professional players?
Str8tShots...Pay no attention to Hits Em Hard. He is not a pro player, and therefore has no say in your issues. You have done well to get any outside industry sponsorship. To the players who want you to "pay their expenses" to grace you with their presence...TELL THEM TO POUND SAND! The "entitlement attitude" that some of these pros have is astonishing at best, and deplorable at worst. Allen Hopkins has another pro event in Philly around the same time as yours. Do you think he's paying anyone's expenses to come play? NOPE! As far as how much $$$ you choose to add to an event, that is your call. The gigantic majority of cash tournaments in this country add little or nothing. The players are playing for the entry fees. That hasn't changed in 50 years. IF a promoter deems to add some money, how much and how it will be distributed is completely up to them. You don't like the rules...don't play. Simple as that. Best wishes in reaching your goals.
well said scott. I also have invited certain players that I wont name, to our event and the response was pretty much the same, wanted entry fees , rooms and appearance fee or travel expenses paid , yet at the same time I asked if they would be willing to help while here to do a clinic, demonstration, trickshot show, talk to the youth and or league players about the game ,how to practice etc. and they said no........it is what it is, if they come they come. I give up, and why is everyone saying pool is in bad shape again????? lol
I think it has already been firmly established that Str8 Shots are not con artists, or hustlers, and are only out to provide positive exposure for the game. If anything, there are a number of pro players who act like children when it comes time to "pay it forward" to help promote their own sport. Str8 Shots has already intelligently and articulately posted what their event is, and how the prize funds will be paid out. Play or don't...but don't expect them to bow down to these people, just because they "think" they're entitled to something (anything) just because they play well. Sorry, but in the real world it doesn't work that way...at least in the real pool world. The sooner the pro players, as a group, learn this hard fact, the sooner the sport can inch forward. I don't know about you, book collector, but I WORK for my money...and imo, so should the pro players...and it must be more than just showing up on game day, with their hand out.
Its just not the way it works. You can't "fake it until you make it" and pool will be well paying and reputable because the players are dressing better and talking nice.
Find some way to make it appealing to a large enough audience to attract TV and thus sponsors and pour some cash into the game. Let these pros play for better odds than "the top two will cover expenses, and moochy expenses at that" and let them make the kind of money their skills demand in most other sports and you will see them acting like the pros in other sports do. They will have handlers and coaches and they will show up on time and act like its their business because it will be their business.
If you think Network TV ignores pool because of the way the players dress or act, you just are thinking wrong. Players act moochy because they have moochy opportunity. Same with the promoters. Acting like the people who participate in popular sports act will not make pool popular.
Kevin
Yeah, right. Money will suddenly make these guys act right. Good one.
POV Pool will be streaming the Rum Runner, LIVE and PPV! I just got off the phone with the venue owner and sealed it.
These two events will effectively put POV and TAR in direct competition for the first time for Pay Per View audiences. For the record, this is absolutely NOT what I want to do.
Timing is everything and this ain't it!
What a shame. This is not what streamers need to be successful. Being forced to go against each other will not help anyone. Rum runner was there first Straight Shots are not helping here.
You really should vet your "sources" better.
because in my experience with humans its not unusual for them to stretch the truth .
