i dunno David.....who are historically the best players ever?......Phillipinos....who have some of the most unorthodox strokes out there. I care less what it looks like and more the end result.
also.....do you want to watch every player with the same stroke same demeanor same reaction....or do you wanna see guys like Efren....Django....McCready etc.
The crowd loves Rodney, Earl, Efren, all for different reasons, but all I think because they are out of the box.
G.
Well, I've watched e.g. Efren and Earl many times live and from close up, and their strokes are straight as an arrow - in other words, I fail to see why you bring their names up in this context. What I meant is one rarely sees great Snooker players get away with jerky cueing actions, e.g. à la Alex Higgins (a fomer two-time World Champion, now deceased, and my favourite Snooker pro to watch ever, uniquely colourful character).
As to your mention of Keith McCready and Francisco Bustamante: two great players whose strokes are by no means straight as an arrow, but whose cueing action is as fluid and smooth as any.
Note I'm not trying to make any kind of case here - I love watching great players for different reasons. I'm merely saying, I know where Wych is coming from when he keeps praising some players' cueing action. If one listens to his commentary with a neutral, non-patriotic ear, one will notice he'll never say anything negative about e.g. SVB's stroke. In other words, I feel he's effectively talking about beliefs/preferences in matters of technique,
not continent of origin.
And, for what it's worth, not
all of the historically greatest players of all time are from the Philippines, my friend!
Greetings from Switzerland, David.
