Cannabis, pool and life

weed doesn't make me shoot any better but it does make me feel better ...

Never made me shoot any better. I think I maybe enjoyed being a B player more when I was high though, all the pretty colors and stuff.

Oh yeah, that was the original topic, wasn't it? I forgot. :D

Anyone who thinks that chemically altering your brain makes you play better is misguided.

Coke and meth may make a player unbeatable for a night, but there's a heavy penalty for those nights. Players who rely on powder to play well end up with very short careers...and often, lifespans.

I'll use a couple of real life examples to illustrate my point. Nick Varner was well known for always playing "on the natch". Louie Roberts was well known for being twisted out of his mind at all times.

While there were times that Nick couldn't beat Louie due to the chemical assistance, Nick is alive today and Louie isn't. I say Nick wins.

I live in Norcal, weed central, and know a million smokers and haven't heard about anyone freaking out after quitting. Some people get a little pissy for a week afterwards, other than that its no big deal for 99% of those who quit.

The only reason I can think of smokers getting anxiety is having to take piss tests within a month of partaking and fearing losing a job opportunity.

Like Spidey says, soon weed will be treated just like wine and all this paranoia about it is going to fade.

I'm not so sure about that. For as long as it's a convenient political football, weed will be illegal.

Try playing snooker on acid then!

I played plenty of straight pool on acid, again, I didn't play that great that way, but on acid, it was REALLY interesting. And talk about DRAMA, get into that 3rd rack!

Thanks

Kevin

My Dad, later in life became concerned about my constant pot use, coupled with the fact that all I seemed to want to accomplish was play pool and chase hippie chicks. So he asked me what was so good about pot, and I said, it makes boring stuff seem interesting, and he asked me, "wouldn't it just be easier to stop doing boring things?'

Stopped me in my tracks (of course at the time, I had to go off, smoke a joint, and ponder that).

Thanks again

Kevin

The older I get, the smarter my Dad gets. Neat lil story, K.

It sounds to me like the OP is a type that benefits from the effects of small amounts of pot. It's a natural substance and it's completely harmless. I don't understand the stigma.

Most potheads I know can't remember a thing. I don't think it's harmless.

I don't have any underlying issues... My life is great (aside from the crap I'm going through now). If you guys don't belive that smoking a heavy amount of grass for a long period of time doesn't have any aftermath after you quit, read this link --->

Everybody's body is different. I'm surprised at all the negative feedback. I thought I was just trying to be a good person for a change and help educate people in this regard. See what being nice or concerned gets ya! I'm not preaching either, I'm just sharing....

I live life by the 3 B's

Buds, Beers, and Billiards :thumbup::thumbup:

My trifecta is Beer, Billiards and Hot Steamed Crabs. I visit a place in Maryland named KC's Cues and Crabs. Thought I died and went to heaven. Oh, I was also stoned!

Most adults over 40 can't remember a thing. It gets worse after 50, and let's not get into 60+.

Getting old certainly isn't harmless. I smoke every day and I have a ridiculously good memory.

There's a difference between a 'pothead' and a guy that smokes pot. I smoke pot every single day and I don't consider myself a 'pothead'.

It's the same as people who drink. There are abusers and there are users.

I know guys that sit around and smoke pot ALL day and don't get shit done. Those guys can't remember shit and it's annoying to talk to them at times. But it's when someone falls into the complete trap that I think this happens and it becomes a problem.

It's happening more and more the way things are now. Guys that have pretty decent jobs maybe hit a little bump and become unemployed. Then it takes longer than a few months to find a job and their on unemployment and their getting bored. So now they are sittin' around all day smoking pot because they have don't have money to go out and do anything and before you know it, they don't look for work. They stay on unemployment for 2 years and they are ZAPPED compared to the same guy 2 years earlier.

Hi fellow AZers. I just wanted to share a story with you and hopefully save a few people's lifes and mental health.

I was under the impression that weed was helping me with my game and other areas of my life. My concentration and ability to deal with the pressure was way better whilst high. Well, that may be true for me and other players but it comes with a price!

I decided to start playing sober and clean my life up. But with in a few days of quitting I started have SEVERE anxiety and panic attacks. It's been about a week and a half since I stopped and I am continuing to go through this. However, I am feeling better slowly but surely. I never thought cannabis aftermath would be ANYTHING like this and I'm not alone. This very common for people to go through after smoking for long periods of time. I've smoked for 7 years now daily in small increments.

To anyone on here considering smoking weed to help their game--don't! To anyone on here who does use weed for their game or is just a daily habit--stop NOW! Trust me. Depending on how long you have smoked pot for will affect your detox symptoms and period of recovery time. Most reports say 30 days and you'll be good. You will overcome it and eventually get better. It's not worth it just to win a game or to simply get high.

My mom and dad have always said to me - Deal with life on lifes terms. And I will no honor that statement, get better and live my life again. And I hope you can do the same.

Best Regards,
Ken

Very interesting. I had an awful cigarette habit for 30 plus years. I finally quit and it took several years to feel completely normal. Each time I tried to quit, the physcial nervousness and anxiety came first, followed by a gloomy depression. The depression was the most difficult symptom to cope with, a real funk. The depression slowly got worse, then better, over a period of several months.

My understanding is this all has to do with the pleasure centers of the brain and the endocrine system.

Just remember, when you are done, you are going to feel way better than you ever did high. You will be relaxed and in charge of your mind, body, and most importantly, your soul.

Congratulations!

Chris
