Carolina Women's Billiard Classic

If the chart is correct Susan Mello and Debbie Schjodt (I may not have spelled those names correctly)

Girlwon1won!

Translation: Tina Pawlowski has beaten Jane Fujinaga.

For those unfamiliar with the WPBA system, a player is not guaranteed entry into every event until they earn touring pro status. Each time a top half of the field is earned, a player is awarded a "pro point." To earn touring pro status, four pro points must be earned in the course of any ten consecutive WPBA events.

Hence, Tina needs one more match win to earn a "pro point" in the WPBA NC Classic. Wishing her luck.

According to the WPBA site, Tina has also beaten Jeri Engh. I guess she just got a point. Congrads, Tina!

I believe there are a couple other ways to be guaranteed entry into every event. One is to finish as the top qualified finisher in their local regional tour, and the other is to win the Regional Tour Championships (which involves PAID guaranteed spots). Winning 4 pro points earns you the right to be called a pro, plus the guaranteed invites.

Does anyone know how the tour came about playing at Nash Community College?
It seems to me that the WPBA would go after more colleges. I think the Nash tournament might be the biggest draw of all of them right now. It would be good for pool too with all the exposer to the students. Pool needs more young people coming into it. Johnnyt

No and Yes, Linda. I believe that winning a regional tour point race does not get you into either the BCA Open or the WPBA Nationals, just everything else.

You are, however, correct that the winner of the regional tour championship event, held exactly twice (2001 and 2005), is guaranteed entry into every WPBA event.

sjm,

You are correct about the BCA event, but I also think that the WPBA US Open and the WPBA Nats are not on the "regular schedule" for the invited spots winners. The only way to get into the US Open is to win a Q at a State Championship. How do the players get into the Nats? Wow, now you have me confused.

The Regional Tour Championships were one helluva event, too!! Everyone came with their "A-Game" and there were a lot of upsets in the first couple rounds.

The reason why they were only held twice is because the WPBA office (Kelly Oyama) has to find someone willing to post up the $3500 for the paid WPBA spots. That's hard to do, and I'm not quite sure who did put up the money.

But Cunningham's was great to play at!! And congrats to Bonnie Coats for taking off the event!

I am on the web through my phone. bandwidth is limited but I am going to try and see how many people can connect to view my webcam - send me a yahoo messenger im to johndavidcollins and i will invite you to view my webcam. don't get pissy if it's really bad or slow - :-) this is cutting edge redneck engineering here. I got me 30 feet of usb cable to get me as close to the action as I could get.

Monica Webb and Darlene Stinson on the Fury Webcam at the Carolina Classic right now :-) send a yahoo im to johndavidcollins to view it.

I look for Janet Atwel to have a breakout year....her game is on the rise and I think many of the higher ranks will fall to her this season!

I think the biggest reason for my prediction here , is the fact that she is opening a new room , in a couple weeks and this will give her the much needed table time she hasnt been getting :D I dont believe she has a home table, so the only real time she has been getting, is the local tourneys....not including the pro tour of course.

SO LOOK FOR "JUMPING JANET", TO JUMP UP THE RANKS;) :D :D

XiaoTing vs Allison 1 to 1.

I should have some pictures by tomorrow the latest in the picture gallery of my site.

Richard

YEP ....SHE is doing well so far....she beat Tiffany Nelson , and is most likely beating the Tornado now;) :D :D

I saw were Tina Pawloski has won her last couple matches on the losers side, and is one match from the final 16......looks like she is making a statement as well ;) ;)

Just got some updates:

Kelly Fisher 4 Jennifer Chen 2
Allison Fisher 6 XiaoTing Pan 3
Both Angel Paglia and Hsin Huang are out. Hsin lost to Tiffany.
Val lost to Anna (Anna beat Gerda 9 to 1 yesterday) on the winner side but Val is still in.

Anyone know how the Dawn Hopkins Vs Jenette Lee match turned out? Thank you. Johnnyt

Just followed Pan's match on Onepocketchump's mobile webcam.

The score progress I could assertain was.

Allison - Pan
4 - 2
5 - 3
7 - 3
7 - 5
Pan scratched on the 3 next frame and Allison cleaned up. 8-5
Pan broke dry and Allison cleaned up for the match win 9-5

Hoping Pan gets through her next match and makes it into the last 16...and hopefully a more successful rematch with Allison further on in the tourney:)

Many thanks to John!
