chalk color vs table color

i'm getting ready to purchase a table. Its going on the main floor of our house and were using the basement as our living room. Soooo, since were doing that my fiancee gets to help pick out the table, cloth, etc. I wanted tournament blue for the table but she says no go because she can't decorate around it. We decided to go with a dark green. (don't remember the name). My question is, how does the blue chalk show up on dark green felt? How does the dark green chalk play/stain the shaft?

I used to have it on my 9' table. It looks really nice and I used blue chalk and it's fine.

The only problem I had was shadows under the rails, but that may have been more due to the lighting than the darker cloth.

well, found a used connoly table for a good price. Has new cloth, but its grey, sooooooooo....same question, how bad does blue chalk show up on grey? Green chalk?

I can use grey, but i'd prefer not to.

I like contrasting-color chalk ...

... because I can see it and clean it more readily. I don't want chalk buildup messing my fine simonis! Chalk is cheap and it comes in so many colors (even different shades of the same color) that you can try several.

Actually that's a pretty good idea to be able to see the chalk easier. Nice!;)

My advice is since it is going to eventually be "your" room don't let her pick anything. My wife "helped" me pick a table and she hasn't played on it after the first month and that was 35 years ago.

Being on the first floor and the pool trend today I would recommend a 9 ft Diamond with tournament blue if you don't have the room go with the 7 ft Diamond. The cloth on the table doesn't have to match anything. If nothing else get a cover to match what ever she wants it to match. That way when she walks by and no one is playing she will be happy. No one playing pool will care or notice if the cloth matches anything. It is a game room. Look at any casino or pool hall and the colors are all over the place.

Get the Diamond with tournament blue, paint the walls off white, do whatever you like on the floor, fill the walls with all of your sport stuff, and then make sure there isn't a window or mirror behind the foot spot.

Other than the garage this is the only room you will have any input so do it the way you want. If she doesn't like it she doesn't have to use it.

Also don't understand how it is easier to "decorate" around dark green?

Well there's a reason the colors are all over the place in a pool hall or casino, i.e. the carpet. That's so the vomit stains don't show.

Obviously you need to compromise with the fiancee. But I agree - go with the table cover ploy, it's tried and true. Let us know if it works. Make sure you tell her you ARE going to keep the table covered. Then do keep it covered.

The guy who installed my Diamond recommended that I use green chalk with the tourney blue cloth. He said it wouldn't show up as much on the cloth. I would assume that blue chalk (most popular chalk color) is ideal for green felt (most popular color) I continue to use masters blue with my tournament blue felt, and chalk shows on the felt. The chalk is darker than the cloth and really stands out.

It also hides wear, spills, pet stains, and etc. Plus if you make a game room into a show place you will become more restricted on what you can place in it. Some thing else will not fit into the color or design scheme.

You also want others to feel comfortable. Make it too nice and they will tend to stay away as they are afraid that they may mess it up. I guess that is why men have their man caves in the garage.

Blue is also a primary color. Green isn't. The sky and most oceans are blue and they are eventually in the color scheme of just about everything.

I just walked over to my table cant notice any caulk on my green cloth
chalk stick with shooting hand not bridge hand and keep chalk side up when u put it down on the rails

Got To agree with The Book....

You may want to consider red chalk. Red and green are xmas colors and you can have xmas year round :)

Umm, dude. No offense, but if you're the one that's going to be playing on it every single day, then you should tell your fiancee that you are going to pick out the color of the cloth.

You're throwing your money down the drain if you end up with a color of cloth you don't like, because you won't play as much. Kindly tell your fiancee it would mean a lot to you if you could get the tourney blue. I'm sure it will look good.

<-----Newlywed who has already explained to his wife that he needs full creative control over the pool room

Tournament Blue 860

I would definately go with the Tournament Blue 860. It is a real pleasure to play on. Don't worry about the chalk dust, you will be cleaning your table regularly with the Simonis x-1 to remove the dust. I agree withthe other guys about letting her pick the color of the table cover NOT the cloth. Good Luck, the harder part is convincing her to wear ear plugs to bed so you can work on that "sledgehammer break"!!!!JMO

I like the table cover idea, i'll probably swing that past her. The reason that she gets to pick the colors is the table will be the main focus of the entire house. its a duplex with a kitchen/living room upstairs and a small living room downstairs and the table will be going upstairs in the main area. I figured if she is nice enough to let me even have a table here I can at least let her pick out the color and decor of the room. She will have to look at it everyday. I probably will stay with the gray that's on the table i'm looking at because its brand new championship cloth. Thanks for the all the input though!

:D:D:D She'd decorating around a humongous 10' x 6' elephant that needs 5' of space around it !!!!! :D:D:D She can only NOT decorate around it if she hates the color blue. :D

There was a thread around here not too long ago about cloth color and a couple of people mentioned gray. Certainly and unconventional color but as I recall no one that any experience playing on gray had anything bad to say about it.
