Anyone have a cheap cue that they love to death, or that shoots and feels like a dream??

I have a Cheap Action cue i purchased a few years ago for the hay of it. damn cue is becoming my favorite cue to play with

I have a D-1 McDermott that I bought new in New York in 1989 that I will not part with. Cue plays great and if I want to lay a little low in an unfamiliar place, that's the cue I'll take to play with. You can look like an average Joe with this cue as opposed to carrying in a high dollar custom cue. It's probably only worth 2 or 3 hundred, but I wouldn't take a thousand for it and that's the truth.

I have a Chinese PR cue that I bought from EBay for under $100.
Both shafts were warped badly enuff that you could almost shoot around a corner.

I could have sent it back but for the price shipping would cost, it wasn't worth it.

One of the Pool hall owners gave me a shaft that was in the office. Dark color, European taper and lots of sugar marks. Hits very stiff.

I refinished the butt and put a dark brown nylon wrap on it. The joint was piloted and much too long. I cut it down to make a wood to wood joint and lost an inch so it ended up being 57", which ended up being perfect for playing on a bar box.

I replaced the pin with a 3/8ths x 10.

I took the ring work off one of the shafts and put it on the new but used shaft.

This was used for my main player for a long time and is now my back up cue in the case. I pull it out quite often to play a few with it.

It plays absolutely great and I would never sell it.

If someone were to offer me $1000 for it, I'd have to refuse.

Probably a stupid move but I know that I would regret selling it if I did.

I have an old Viking I won back in 90 I think, I played with it for a good while and just cant get rid of it. I see it from time to time going through old cases .

I have an old lucasi that has a really nice feel to it. It is red with ivorine points. It is the second cue I bought. I have sold it once or twice and it always seemed to find its way back to me. I use it for my travel cue now.

Full splice

I have a full splice cue that a friend made and gave to me, it has a steel joint with a unknown shaft. It plays great , I have won several tournaments with it, unfortunately he only made 8 of these cues.He never made a short splice he started with the full, some were better then others he gave me one of his best.I have had offers to sell it but would never consider selling it , the fact that it was a gift from a friend makes the cue priceless to me.

I have 2 cues ('92 Meucci S/P; '85 Joss Model 2) that would not be worth much in today's market. But I would not call either of them cheap. Both are well constructed and play great. I am the original owner of each cue. Obviously, I am not selling.

I have 2 cheap Stroker merry widow cues that I could part with. But each cue is way better than you would expect for the $25 I paid. Neither will ever be my main player. I have played with each cue for at least one entire evening and had fun.

I've got a Players decal cue, Merry Widow style, that I've had for about 5 years now that I couldn't part with. Paid $72 for it new. It played pretty decent right out of the box, but when I took the weight bolt out and changed the tip to a Moori medium, that cue really came to life. If you blindfolded me, I couldn't tell the difference between it and several of my Jacoby's or some of my customs in a ball-hitting test.

Why would I ever get rid of it? It plays better than it's worth.

To the OP: I once owned a cheap (came free with a case purchase) Action sneaky that I wish I hadn't of given away!!!

I still have my very first pool cue, a $20 Viper I bought at Academy about 15 years ago. I'll never get rid of it. I love that damned cue. Lots of memories...

I just re-read the whole thread^....it was fun.
Thanx, Doc

Cool!

It was meant to be fun...and to learn a thing or two about the cues we hate to love and love to hate....the "cheap" cues.....

:D
.

My Falcon BS-7 and unknown Joss matches this.
The Falcon has a huge ding in the butt plate, shaft looks like its been buried in tar and its a 13mm. I've gotten used to thinner. I had an offer of $500 for it as is and I just can't.

My unknown Joss is an older cheaper in the production line of cues. The butt sleeve is chipped and peeling up, finish is poor and starting to wrinkle like Orange peel. It came with no shaft and have since gotten a Joss shaft for it. I love the way it plays and the hit on it.

Both look like they have seen the dark side of a pool hall, but I'll take them both to a shady bar and not mind if they get dinged or anything. Perfect hustle sticks

You're right about cheap cues that can play good if setup right, my son has a $120 Players HXT that came with a LD shaft and a Kamui Soft tip that several people have compared favorably to their old McDermotts and $1,000 customs.

I do have a 90s Joss that I thought I would never sell, but I'm actually selling it to fund my son's trip to the Jr Nationals this year. Losing my job for a few months and only working a contract job now made me re-think holding on to a cue I have not taken out of the case in a year. A trip to Vegas with my son and letting him play in the Nationals that he talks about all year is worth more than the cue to me.

I got an '86 Joss (it says so on the joint collar) plain jane...just bird's-eye
maple butt...Mike Webb put a cork grip on it.

I also got a '91 Joss sneaky pete...purple heart butt.
I needed a shaft for it but the joint diameter was a hair thicker than standard
...found an old Dufferin break ahaft that fit perfect.

I lend them a lot...and many people want to buy them...can't let them go.

Not sure if break/jump cues count or not. I bought a J&J a few months ago
with a samsara tip for around 80 bucks, I just love it to death.

IN the early 90's my wife for my birthday got me a Viking and a couple of years later for Christmas got me a McDermott, both are still straight as an arrow and play excellent. I can't imagine ever getting rid of those

my model 95-01 meucci sneaky.

i ordered it with two 12 mm shafts and at the time, it literally took the last bit of change out of my pocket to pay for it and a porper 1x2 case when it came in.

:)
