Check out the pocket size of my new pool table!

Yes...4.25" pockets are just fine.

I like to shoot on tables with tight pockets, makes you more precise and then when you play on a table with big pockets, it almost seems too easy.

Keep in mind that the size of the table is a factor aslo.

Is your table a 4.5 x 9 ?? or a 4 x 8 ???

4" pockets on a 4.5 x 9 is a different animal than 4" pockets on a 4 x 8.

Russ...

Mine is 4x8.

Nice table man, I love the gold crown series, that amzing that they can last that long, just shows you its a high quality table. What size is it again?

You're not supposed to say that... you're supposed to say you've had the table for 2 months and haven't MISSED a ball on it yet! :D

I just bought the table. It is a Brunswick Gold Crown I, from the 1960's. It is a 4 1/2 x 9. I pick it up this Sat. I am going to paint it, chrome the corners, feet, etc... I will post up some pics when it is done. It will be a while though because I have alot of work to do to get the garage ready for it.

Here is a pic..

Wouldn't argue with you one bit, poolhustler but that table looks like a 5X10 in the photo.

The measurement of a pocket opening is taken from point to point not inside the facing. It looks like your pockets are closer to 4" than 3 1/2". Still less than 4" though. Very nice indeed. Pretty nice setup. I can't imagine playing on 3" pockets. Did he say what the measurement is for his side pockets?

What is the degree of the cut on those pockets in your pic snail? Are they greater than 15 degrees?

How so?????

Because when a ball is struck forcefully enough to bounce off the pocket facing, it will bounce back and forth between the pocket facings..

The deeper the pocket, the more bounces back and forth. And the more chance the object ball will stop moving before it goes far enough into the pocket to drop.

Deep shelf pockets always play tougher, all other things being equal.

If you look at the pictures posted by Flyingsnail you'll see that although the pockets are tighter, the slate doesn't look as deep inside the pocket as on your table. That extra slate tends to hang up a lot of balls that aren't hit accurately. I probably don't need to tell you this, I'm sure.

Uhh, thats new information for me lol. Thanks for posting, you too Russ!

I can vouch for the fact that the deep slate will hang up many more balls. A buddy has a Gold Crown I that he got from Lou Butera and balls must be struck more accurately than on my other freinds Gold Crown III.

or chances that the ball struck very hard would bounce back up again on the slate. I remember one incident where I needed to put some extra juice on the CB for my next position. I was so concerned of where the CB might end that I struck it very hard and I knew the OB was going in anyway and proceeded to hit the next ball. I was just surprised to see that my opponent quickly jumped out of his seat, went on my backside and was preparing to take a shot on the previous hole. I'm surprised to see the OB which I just struck was back up a few cm away from the hole.

just to echo what russ said, extremely tight pockets are not nessecarilly a good thing. you want to make sure that they elevate your game, not change it to adapt to them. for example you might be playing with a bit less confidence and being more wary, or maybe you'll be slow rolling everything. just things to bear in mind.

The statement is written, "I've owned it for about 2 months now, and haven't missed a ball on it!".;)
