Chicago Canceled

I would assume that given Bernie's extreme energy, he would be able to survive it. It might damage someone else but I think the combonation would simply act as a sedative for the evening... enough for him to calm down and go to sleep. ;)

That reminds me. Once when I was recovering from a serious car accident, the medication they gave me, oxycodone, had the following notation on it:

Alcohol may intensify the effects of this drug.

I couldn't figure out whether it was a warning or a recommendation! So I took one, cracked a beer and next thing I knew it was the next day! Great stuff!

I was contacted earlier today, by several sources with information that 2 more employees have been fired and unfortunately, the news that everyone questioned, (but in reality was only a matter of time) the Chicago event has been canceled. Apparently, there was a meeting today to discuss this, and from what I have been told, but cannot completely confirm, that it's over.

Directly after hearing this, I called Deno and left him a message of what I had heard, asking him to please either confirm, deny or comment on it. But, Deno has elected not to answer my repeated phone calls. I went on to say in my message, that this was to important not for it to go out, and I needed to know now. He is aware that I am a staff writer for AZB ,and I felt compelled to give him the opportunity to address this, but as the clock winds down it looks there is nothing left to say.

I am going to address this all day tomorrow, and get to the bottom of it. I sincerely hope that is not true, but unfortunately it does not look good. I have an extremely long interview with Deno, and out of courtesy, going to send to Deno first, but since he has elected not to respond, it will be a cover story shortly.

Please understand that I am doing my best to get you the correct information, but I am currently up against many obstacles that I need to hurdle first.

Please don't unpack the bags, but don't pack them either!

Maybe Deno was one of the fortunate to be handed his walking papers.lol

I had the same thing when I had a wreck... got home from work, took a pill and drank two glasses of wine... slept like a baby. I also have a high tolerance for pain meds... I was taking a pill in the morning and working a full 8 hr shift. I'm jealous of people that can take a half a pill or even a full one and be totally looped. Not me... I can still function just fine.... just my luck.

This doesn't make a lot of sense. Eydie, I love ya but I hope your wrong!

Strange, I thought it was suspiciously quiet here today.

Yeah, I hope I am wrong as well, honest to g-d I do. But here is the scenario, we had way to many calls come in regarding this issue today. Several well connected people in the industry, had been made aware of it as well, so it was elected to run with it. As, I previously mentioned, I called Deno as I have, 4 other times this week to no avail. I left him a message tonight stating that I needed confirmation, a statement, just something.

I got nothing...

As of last week, Deno promised me that he would get directly back to me whenever I called. I have been waiting since Wednesday for a return call regarding the interview, that was originally slated to air last week, and since this evening for a response to this new development. I feel we had no other choice than to air this.

I am not going to play the guessing game with them. I am not going to come on this board, and risk my reputation. There is a lot of very disgruntled people these days, because they can't pay their bills. NO, that is not all the IPT's fault..

Yes, it is very possible for people to say things that get around that just are not true. So, do we elect to just let it blow over, while some of the players are spending money to come to an event that just might not be? Do we keep waiting to find this out, like the players are waiting to get paid? Or do we tell what we know, and be honest, so that some may not get hurt in the long run?

It's a real hard call, so just take it for what it's worth, don't make any rash decisions on it, hope and pray it's not true, and remember I am just looking out for a lot of my good friends, who I care dearly for.

Does the convention center know as of yet, if this is true? I doubt it. I suspect that would come Monday.

Does the table manufacturer know anything? No, I have spoken with them this evening.

As I have stated, I sincerely hope that this is not the final act.

I understand that you are having a hard call here, but think it over:

People are still paying 2 000 $ to play qualifiers, and the IPT are still trying to get people to sign up for the IPT Membership Club.

I think you will NOT lose any reputation here by publishing an article saying that it is RUMOURED that the Chicago is cancelled, and telling that Deno or Kevin won't answer your phonecalls and emails regarding this issue. If you make sure that the words rumour and that IPT doesn't answer your calls are in the first two sentences of your article, there is no way of losing your reputation!

IMO

Yes, Indeed! It is rumored at this time, not confirmed. I agree, it should say rumored.

I agree too. Good work Eydie. If this all turns out to be true, you should work for the Tribune or Sun Times. They could always use a good investigative reporter!

I still hope your wrong though sweetie. :D I was looking forward to meeting some of these other AZ junkies here.

Thanks for the kind words. Do they still have that reverse bungy jumping thing in Oslo. I couldn't make myself do it, but I sat and watched it for hours!

Cheers,

Gosh Eydie,

I sure hope your inside sources are wrong, for the player's sake.

Haven't seen it for a while. Guess it is a company that travels around Europe and make a living of making people wanna throw up!

Have done it myself, twice! It's awesome!!!

Eydie - Thanks for the update even though I hope Chicago is still a go somehow. If it is off that would decrease the chances of the players getting paid anytime soon (or at all) :(

Doug - Here's something to help cheer you up :)

I spent about 6 weeks in Asker one winter. I can't wait to get back there with my wife in the summer time. What a fabulous country. It was a little dark and cold, (Dec. & Jan. ) but the people were great and the scenery was great.

I also went to Stavanger and Bergen. Took a boat through the longefjord (sp) and it was breathtaking.

I was working so it was a typical 5 weeks of 12 hour days with a three day, three city tour*packed in the middle. Lol!

Cheers,

You should come to Norway this summer, 27th - 30th of June for the Norwegian 9-ball Challenge in Oslo! ;)

I may. I'll run it by the boss! The only pool hall I saw there was in Greek town in Bergen. I wanted to go in, but my partner/co-worker was afraid so we just went to pepe's pizza instead. I have to admit, it looked like a pretty rough place.

If CHI is cancelled it could improve cash flow to pay RENO winnings....if, that is K*&T's intent. I would be surprised if his nads are big enough to just stiff em after what he told BD. Cancelling CHI doesn't contradict anything he said to BD. He MIGHT be on the way to financial responsibility.

For now I'll stick by my theory of him paying 15 to 30% of what he owes the players next week. The balance will be IPO, STK, blah blah, BS, etc. Also thinking sliding pay scale....

On the other hand I'm eligible to be full of kaka and all $ (including revenue from qualifiers since RENO) might be earmarked for MGMTS retirement accounts.

The time to play "show and tell" is drawing closer by the day...

Eydie,
Thanks for doing your best to keep us informed.

You're the closest thing to a news source we've got, as the IPT is simply not telling us what we should know.

It is a huge inconvenience and cost, financially and time wise not knowing what's going on.

I've got the travel agent hassling me to pay for my flight booking. That booking was made late too (more expensive) because we weren't told whether we'd need to stay on for the KOTH.

At this stage they'd better announce soon and clearly what is happening moving ahead or I may have to change my plans. I figure there are quite a few players in the same boat.

I'm half hoping they'll postpone at this stage and let us know when everything is organized....with a couple of months notice, so I can start to arrange my life and business.

My own, and I guess others' motivation to practice and prepare seriously has waned. It ain't much fun putting in hard hours when you don't have a clue if you're just wasting time.

Anyway, enough whining, thanks again Eydie for trying to keep us informed:)
