Chicago Canceled

I'm speechless. I never saw this coming. Why didn't someone mention this possibility ? We might have discussed it and found a solution. This sucks. I feel really badly for the players and pool. I'm depressed.... AGAIN

Yeah me too. What a shock. And to think that KT lied how deproarable that in this day and age someone would lie. With a straight face even.

I am sure that Bernie told the complete truth when he sent in his application to be on the IPT.

What is this Country coming to?

The next thing that will happen to pool players is that PokerStars will stop taking money from the USA followed by the players losing whatever money PokerStars is holding. Oh wait, that is what I just read in this morning's newspaper.

To find out if the Chicago event is still on it maybe easier and quicker to track the Rosemont Convention Center Schedule at:

http://rosemont.com Then drag down "Visitors" from the Menu Bar and select the first item "Convention Center Events", finally move to the November calendar.

Presently the Chicago event is still on their calendar.

On the other hand, they may be the last to know.

I have been following that twice a day to see if it was still up there. I suppose that they will take it down either Monday or the 1st of the month.

There probably was a non-refundable deposit that the IPT will lose.

Gosh Eydie,

I sure hope your inside sources are wrong, for the player's sake.

Your sentiment is certainly understood and well inteneded, but I'm beginning to disagree with you. Maybe it would be best if this thing is over and done.

I had the same thing when I had a wreck... got home from work, took a pill and drank two glasses of wine... slept like a baby. I also have a high tolerance for pain meds... I was taking a pill in the morning and working a full 8 hr shift. I'm jealous of people that can take a half a pill or even a full one and be totally looped. Not me... I can still function just fine.... just my luck.

:p

Uh Timberly you should not say that. At least not post it. Whatif someone forwards it to your employer?

It is a high tolerance for pain that is good.

A high tolerance for pain meds is describing a drug addict.

Eydie - Thanks for the update even though I hope Chicago is still a go somehow. If it is off that would decrease the chances of the players getting paid anytime soon (or at all) :(

Doug - Here's something to help cheer you up :)

Thanks, I feel better already....

Eydie, I'm sure your due diligence was thorough and you've checked and rechecked your sources. I trust you wouldn't put your good name on the line over something flimsy. Unlike KT, you have a reputation worth maintaining. Thanks, once again, for sticking your neck out to get vital information extracted from the fog of the official IPT BS. Your efforts are appreciated.

Hey Grady !

As vocal as Grady can be, I'm surprised at his silence during this entire ordeal. What's up Grady ? Now that it 'appears' do be over, do you have anything at all to say (good or bad) ?
Doug
( I've been waiting for Grady's input for some time now )

(sigh) My story took place about 10 yrs ago. I took a drug test for my employer prior to starting... I passed then and I would pass today.

Medication affects everyone differently Jake. Just because I have a high tolerance for medication does not mean that I'm popping pills. (I even require more novocaine at the dentist) It simply means what I said... My system has a high tolerance.

Many years ago, a coworker of mine went out for happy hour with the gals after work, had some wine and later when she got home, she took some sleeping pills. She never woke up again.

This is just a reminder that alcohol and drugs can be a deadly combination. Don't take chances like that. :)

They've seen this horse and buggy show many times before. There really isn't much to be said. Time moves on...............................................

As a retired nurse I can tell you Valium is one of the drugs that doesn't mix well with ANY other drug. In the sixties and seventies it kept the ER's full with Valium and booze overdoses. Prozac is a lot safer...I think. Johnnyt

Okay, it's 9:25 AM and I have not heard 1 peep from anyone at the IPT.

Since another Chicagoan has elected to advise people that it's NOT OFFICIAL, let me reiterate, IT's NOT OFFICIAL! I'm not sure, did I not make myself clear that this was not an official statement?

I am only the messenger, that's it. I am doing my best.

It seems your sources have been correct in the past. The IPT's silence tells the answer. Players have been wondering if Chicago was a go for weeks now waiting to make their travel arrangements and the IPT hasen't made any statements other then KT's "I'll see you all in Chicago". in one of his announcements.

They should have been emailing all the players to not worry and make their travel arrangements, making public announcements, anything to let the pool world know it was on. A rumor like his can become an almost self fulfilling prophesy if not addressed quickly and in several weeks they haven't said a word and that says it all. Honestly, Chicago was probably in doubt even before Reno.

I'm not really surprised you haven't heard anything. For one...they ARE extremely dosorganized. Secondly, they are terrible at getting back to people...especially when they have bad news.

Although I prefer to remain anonymous...I am VERY close to the situation myself and this contradicts what I heard even as of Thursday. What I heard was that King of the Hill would be moved to February. The IPT card qualifier would be added on to the Chicago event.

Now, this may have changed but this was the latest even as of WED or THUR.

I hope that your sources heard the DEC event was cancelled and somehow it just got turned around.

Imo, whatever KT says on any given day is whatever's best for KT and lining his pockets. Everything may be presented rosey and then the rug gets pulled from beneath you..... You can't trust ANYTHING that comes out of his mouth. Conmen change their words depending on whom they're talking to and what they think needs to be said at the time.

Up until yestersay I had heard much the same thing... exception being that the KOTH was probably going to be in March.

I was told the same thing Eydie was yesterday. Just like Eydie & everyone else, I hope this information is wrong. Sadly, the IPT (perfect professionals that they touted themselves to be) are one of the most unorganized groups I've come across, and not just in the pool world. KT, during his interview with BD said the words "I don't know" more times than "the guy with all the answers" is supposed to say.

For all we know, this could've been a rumor started by a ticked off employee...we simply don't know and the lack of info coming from the IPT leave us no choice but to go on rumors that come from what some consider credible sources. Thanks for sharing what you've heard to date. I would hope that if you hear differently or hear something to confirm what Eydie heard, that you'll let us know.

I absolutely will. It may have been a smoke screen but I heard this latest info from one of the IPT top Execs.

Their disorganization was apparent all the way back to before the KOH. Wouldn't reply to emails. Wouldn't return phone calls. I honestly think you may get further trying to get information from the CIA.

So far, most of the "idle speculation" about the IPT course of events has been dead on. Those of us who have dealt with scumbags and scheisters recognize them more readily than those who have not. I think everyone will have a higher education in what the developing web of a bullshytt artist looks like, and fairly soon. It's going to be an unfortunate end of innocence for more than a few.

Chicago, Or Bust

If CHI is cancelled it could improve cash flow to pay RENO winnings.......

Not a chance in hell, rib. As I said in an earlier post, if Chicago gets cancelled, you will never see the Reno $ paid... only a bankruptcy case.

Giving KT the benefit of the doubt (reluctantly), at best there was good faith -- but a cash flow problem, and when that happens a business will (1) reach for temporary financing ("funding"), and (2) stall creditors, hoping that future business (IPT events) will save the day. Selling the failing business (to Mr. Ho) is rarely possible, unless you can cook the books enough to fool a sophisticated buyer; but that doesn't happen in big-money situations.

I, too, hope E.R. in Chitown is wrong. But no Chicago = No Reno $ = No IPT no more.
