China Open

It's never come up in 30 years of pool that I can remember. DCC had it since the start. If a player runs out the set (when it was race to 7), the other player has the opportunity to do the same. Never was exercised once in probably thousands of 9 ball matches over 25 years of DCC.

The Earl 11 racks run for the 1MM his opponent had 4 games I believe.

The only other match I can think of that "might" have qualified was when Big Kaci put an 8 pack on Alex Pagulayan. I can't recall if Alex ever got to the table though before/after the run.
FWIW, I own the cue that was used to win that tournament where Earl ran those racks.

Semi final 1
Fedor Gorst vs Dang Jinhu
Fedor is down 5-1 and it doesn’t look like he can stop Dang

Saw this on Fedor's FB page: I managed to win three really tough matches today - against Ignacio, De Luna and Naoyuki Oi. Honestly, I felt pretty bad the whole day, bad headache, probably with a fever, and I was very fortunate to come through at least a couple of those matches.

Tomorrow at 1:30pm I’ll be playing in the semifinal, so now it’s all about trying to recover and be ready for that.

Thank you so much for all the support and for watching my streams on YouTube. It always feels like even more people tune in when I’m struggling than when I’m playing clean - maybe mistakes are just more fun to watch.

This is funny! It took me a moment. Posted by Killer Fillers on Facebook about racking at the China Open: A Pool Players POV: Refs that don’t give a S***, or Story of Players working on their Break for hours and then a random Referee racks for you.

Absolutely.

I've seen the great ones win under the most strained conditions, including when they were sick. Still, bad luck for Fedor that he was not physically right this week, and I wish him a speedy return to full health.

Reaching the semis at the China Open is still impressive, but when you're at Fedor's level, it's about titles, and I'm rooting hard for him to snap off something big really soon.

That's several minutes Bob. You're okay with that? ...
You misunderstood my post, Jay. I was documenting your comment.

If I'm racking a full rack with a triangle, it takes about 20 seconds from the time I leave my chair until the rack is ready (on a ball return table). With a template, I'm slower, maybe 40 seconds to make sure the balls are tight. Anything over one minute is a problem.

I wonder if the refs had training on racking with a template.

The thing I dislike most about alternate break format, is that it GREATLY reduces the pressure a player is under. Imagine playing Earl in 1992 and it's winner break. You would be sweating every shot, because if you screw up, you know you have to fade Earl hitting you with a 6 or 7 pack. Alternate break, a mistake never costs you more than that single game.
