Cities with the most serious pool rooms?

Just night before last I watched a 10 ahead 9 ball set for $5000.00. And sometimes you watch $5000.00 a game in Buffalo's Billiards, the worlds pool hall located in Metairie, Louisiana, right next to New Orleans, Louisiana. My home pool hall. Lots of action in this pool hall! Good post.
Many Regards,

No doubt many more, but here are some...

North Cal (considered the Bay Area/Silicon Valley/Sacramento) - all within 2 hours from each other:

Hard Times Billiards (Sacramento)
The Jointed Cue (Sacramento)
Family Billiards (San Francisco)
California Billiard Club (Mountain View)

So Cal (considered the Greater Los Angeles Area) all within 1 hour (no traffic) from each other.:

Hard Times Billiards (Bellflower) - already mentioned
Stix Billiards (Rancho Cucamonga)
Shooter's Billiards (Riverside)
Hot Shot's Billiards (Cypress)
Rack & Cue (Stanton)
Golden Cue Billiards (South El Monte)
House of Billiards (Santa Monica)
House of Billiards (Sherman Oaks)
Plush Pocket (Sepulveda)
Butera's Billiards (Moorpark)

Good post. I'm up here in Chico, about an hour and a half north of Sacramento. We have a smaller room tucked away in a downtown basement with 10 Diamond Professionals. It's called The Downlo. Only Diamonds in Norcal as far as I know.

Add this one to the list:
Danny K's (Orange)

Bremeloe, WA

On the flip side! Here in Bremerton, WA there is only one true room. Monday night league (BCA) and a Sunday 9-ball tournament. Every few month's they put on a large tournament that attracts out of area players; D. Louie, S. Tourangeau, G. Atwell, E. Mataya to name just a few. But normally only a couple of occasional players and no action.

I'm going back to sleep. Good night Bremerton...lol:boring2:

You can remove Hot Shot's in Cypress and Rack & Cue in Stanton. No significant players there. Danny K's is the place in Orange County.

Add Steinway billiards to the list, its pretty hot right now. In addition to the usual heavy hitter suspects, I've seen Jeremy Jones, Rob Saez and Oscar Dominguez playing there recently.

Yeah...Steinway is the new Master Billiard in Queens, NY. They've got tournaments and actions every monday and wednesday night. Not to mention a pro shop (authorized Kamui, Moori, Molavia, etc) :). If you're looking for action...Steinway is where you'll find a game.

Duc.

No Gold Crown's or Diamonds, as the original poster specified, at Danny K's.

I took the OP question as what cities/state has "serious" pool rooms, not which pool rooms have serious equipment.

No shortstops at Hot Shots or Rack & Cue, but Gold Crowns. And yes, no Gold Crowns or Diamonds at Danny K's but at least there are some good players there.

Haven't been to Steinway yet. Have you played Cue Bar in Bayside ? I like it there. Clean, good tables, plenty of room, a few tight pocket tables too.

Amsterdam's the Spot

Amsterdam is the best room in NYC without question..not much $action$ but a great mix of the best pros(Mika, Robles, Jenn) and amateurs..along with the best 14.1 amateur players anywhere. And Celebs in and out all the time.

Beloit, WI has a great room with some amazing tourneys and what always seemed to be nonstop action. They play everything up there except one pocket, lol. If you wanna gamble, you can find $2 a game 8 ball to $500 a set 9 ball. Big tourneys and big payouts, but the best part is how good the people up there are. Its a great great room, and I miss going there quite a bit.

Amsterdam is a great room. Society is a great room. And there are other good rooms in NYC, like the aforementioned Steinway. The original question was, "Which cities have the most serious pool rooms?" Somebody made a case for SoCal, which isn't a city but an area. I've only been to the late Hollywood Billiards there so can't say. And the case for Fargo is not to be underestimated. In a city of 100,000 people, as opposed to a city of 8+ million like NY, one great room can suffice, especially given the sorry state of pool. NYC would have to have 80 rooms as good as Fargo to make it competitive per capita. And the south - Georgia, Texas, Louisiana - is also a player. I say call it a draw and split the pot.

I'll vote for NYC. Amsterdam has what's probably the biggest 9-ball league in the country with 40 teams (each team 4 to 8 players) and most teams have a pro/open player. There's Society, Steinway, Skyline and other rooms. There are leagues every day somewhere in the city (APA, BCA, NAPL, USAPL, megabucks); team-9ball, individual 9-ball, 8-ball, straight pool leagues and every weekend there are tournaments (Tri-state, Predator) that draw 70-80 people. On top of that, the country's best 3 cushion players play out of several rooms in Queens, mostly Carom Cafe.
