Cliff Joyner looking for sponsors

let's get this straight!!!

I joined this site a while back and I was under the impression that it was a place I could mingle with a larger crowd of pool enthusiasts, find out about tournaments, there outcome and such. With much debate and lots of hesitation, Cliff allowed me to create him a profile and start this thread. I convinced him that with a fan base like his, he would be able to raise the $. Sadly, this is not a place for pool enthusiasts, just a bunch of hens clucking and cackling.
I agree with that person that said pro players do not use this site because of the negativity. This place is full negative nelly's and pure out assholes. Thank you to SloMo, your money is put aside for the trip to Tunica. Thank you to those that support Cliff, ie, Big Truck, JoeyA, LnL, and the other well wishers. For the rest of you consider this thread CLOSED!!!

I have too much invested in this thread for quitting, I do believe Cliff will get sponsored in this event. He deserves it. Let him stay at the Super 8, Motel 6 or whatever . Feed this horse and he will run fast and hard. GUARANTEED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He does deserve it, he deserves more than this place can offer. And you are correct, if all he had to do was concentrate on pocketing the balls, he could easily terrorize anyone on the table.

Cliff, or who ever, what you are saying is that you already have an Az user account and you have created another and are posting under that one, pretending to be Cliff.

Ya know, with your first post, I could have sworn that you were Cliff.

Does wonders for a players rep that is already in question.

And you cal us A Holes?

Since it is too easy for people to masquerade as someone else (especially if your goal is to raise money), IMO, your account should be closed or renamed.

I am hesitant to post again in this thread, because I am obviously biased, but I guess I would like to share more details of my own experiences with this living legend of pool.

I am not trying to pressure anyone, nor am I trying to discount anyone's prior experiences. Everybody here on AZB is entitled to their own opinions and decisions, but that also includes my own. I hope you can respect that. And I hope this post isn't disrespectful to anyone else. These are just my personal observations. Take them for what they are worth.

1. I do not have personal experience in playing on the road, big stakes gambling, taking/giving a bite, or anything on a large scale like that. I've seen them many, many times, but have never participated in them myself. If that discounts my opinion, I understand.

2. I have been watching Cliff play one pocket (and rotation games) for almost as long as I have been playing pool. I will always remember my days in college, when I used to drive down to Houston, just on a rumor that he might be matching up. Once, after winning a match, he was giving a rookie like me 12-3, just for fun (like $5/game). I saw him run 12, three times in one night, all while smiling, laughing, and talking with this guy. I instantly became a huge fan.

3. Almost every time over the past 15 years that I showed up to watch a match, whether at a tournament, or a late night matchup, Cliff has taken it upon himself to walk over to me and chat for a few minutes. Almost every time, he has remembered my name, and even where I'm from. That may not be a big deal to you if you're well known, but I was nobody in pool (and maybe I still am). To me, that shows a lot of character on his part.

4. Cliff called me the other day, AFTER I had already sent my little "assistance" or whatever you want to call it. He spent a good 15 minutes chatting with me on the phone about his upcoming event, how he's preparing, thanking me, and discussing my own struggles with the game of one pocket. He didn't have to do that, but he did.

5. I already knew well enough that Cliff didn't actually physically type the OP here. He hardly uses text messaging, and barely even uses email. I don't even know if he has a smartphone yet. :) Granted, it could have been handled better than the having the OP (whose name I don't know) writing in the first person. I guess I didn't have a problem with that, but I understand if some do.

6. Most of us here on AZB do have a regular job, and some of us are doing better than others, financially. I accept that. As far as I know, nobody here has criticized me for the life choices I've made, even though they haven't been the best. It's easy to reflect on the current status of the game, but maybe it didn't seem like such a bad idea to focus on his passion and area of expertise back when pool offered a way to potentially make a solid living. Looking back, maybe he would have chose something different (but I for one am glad he didn't). If I knew in high school what I know now, I would definitely have chosen a different career path.

All I know is that Cliff has always been extraordinarily nice to me and my friends, and never showed any disrespect to us. I don't know anything about the other mentioned incidents; I'm just relaying my own experiences.

And I'm not saying anyone should sponsor him just because he has been kind to me. That is not the point of this post. I'm just saying that when I think of pool, I think of Cliff. When I think of Cliff, I think of pool. If that's not sponsorship material, I don't know what is.

I hope that he finds a sponsor and kicks butt in the tournament. And I also hope that he checks back in, from time to time, to participate in some other threads. Despite the fact that some folks have their (perhaps justifiable) problems with his past, I believe that many of us here would welcome his occasional opinion. Surely, we could all learn a few things from him.

I wish the best for you, Cliff. You'll always be one of the good guys in my book.

Very good post and well written, I might add. :)

I have found -- my own experience -- that those who want to denigrate pool champions, legends, road players, and the like are the first ones to stand in line to ask for their autograph or have their picture taken with them.

When the legend, road warrior, pool champion, or action player -- use whatever label you want -- engages in action, those who claim to have strong opinions about these pool players are sitting in the front row, chomping at the bit, wanting to see how the action unfolds. They never utter a peep about their so-called "strong opinions" at this juncture.

As long as the pool champions, legends, road players, and the like dance like a monkey to benefit others, whether it's for entertainment or financially, they're held in high esteem, yet on this so-called "pool" forum, these same players are written about quite often as if they are trash.

Welcome to AzBilliards Discussion Forum, the place where multiple-identitied members write whatever they want about whoever they feel like. I know, I know, it's their opinion, and they're entitled to it.

I like to think of myself as being an even keeled, fair-minded az'er, who, by the way, had something nice to say about Cliff in my only other post to this thread.

And now let me tell you that I'm feeling duped by whomever it is posting on Cliff's behalf. If you were soliciting donations, sponsorships, whatever, *for Cliff* then you should have been straight up with this community rather than portraying yourself as actually being Cliff.

Your credibility is down the toilet as far as I'm concerned.

And that's not to say Cliff isn't deserving of some assistance to play in the tourney, this was just a lousy way to go about it, imo.

Now that you are on az looking for $$$, tell us, who are you?

best,
brian kc <--- no "negative nelly" but def an appreciator of honesty . . .

Brian, I'm pretty sure that Cliff doesn't know how to post on a computer.

Heck, the only reason why Keith knows how to post on a computer is because he wanted to play online poker and bet the horses.

FWIW, Cliff posted on AzBilliards via a female friend a few years ago. I remember reading the posts. He, or they, probably lost the password and/or Cliff didn't remember that user name.

Somebody, probably an AzB-er, may have mentioned to Cliff that this forum might be one way to get staked for the upcoming Tunica event(s). Of course, as you and I both know, whatever is written on this forum, especially if it is by a well-known pool peep, it will be scrutinized, analyzed, with words dissected to the nth degree. This is forum culture in general and happens on most forums, I guess, but somebody like Cliff, who does not possess the skills needed to come on AzBilliards, he probably did seek assistance to post on here.

I remember when the IPT first came to the fore asking for applications to be one of the first 50 IPT members. The only way the pool players could apply would be via Internet, and the only way the pool players would know about the IPT at its onset was if they were active on the Internet. MANY players who had no computer skills did not send in an application. Those who did, and were selected to be the first 50 members, got $6,000 just for showing up in Olrando in December 2005 for the King of the Hill event. BCA Hall of Famers got $30,000 just for showing up. Some pool players who were not chosen showed up anyway, hoping to get consideration for future events. Dennis Hatch comes to mind.

I just mention this because in this day and age, I realize it's hard to believe that people don't have computer skills, but there's a lot of folks who still are not computer literate.

My daughter recently told me that Facebook was old-fashioned and that nobody uses it anymore, that people are using their iPads and iPhones, texting, for immediate gratification. I still own a fliptop cell phone, Brian, and have never texted in my life. :D

Anyway, food for thought! :)

Creating an alias is also against the rules. (Doesn't promote harmony either.)

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=3728839&postcount=114

I await your self-report with bait on my breath.

just sayin'
Roadie

Creating an alias is allowed if permission is granted. And creating one does is neither disruptive or harmonious. An account by itself is nothing. Roadie highlighted your defamation. Did that make you uncomfortable?

Does it bother you to have earned the label of knocker? Which is about the lowest type of person in the poolroom as you well know. You knock and even defame others. If it bothers you that people point it out then perhaps you should not knock.

As any of you that have traveled the roads playing pool knows, it gets expensive. I was hoping to offset some of these expenses for the Southern Classic held in Tunica this June by asking the pool community to consider sponsoring me.
Entry fees for the 3 Southern Classic, the Ultimate Ten ball and the Big Foot 10 Ball Challenge are $2130. and the 2 week stay at Harrah's is $1430
If anyone is interested in sponsoring me in part or whole please contact me.
Cliff

No one has contacted me yet about Cliff playing in the Bigfoot Challenge. Not Cliff and not you either. After reading this thread I also think it was very deceptive of you to make this original post and not properly identify yourself. I have helped Cliff in the past but I would shy away after reading how you went about this. Personally I like Cliff and hope he is able to come to Tunica. If his game (and his shoulder) are okay, he is a threat in all divisions.

Haters???????????

I disagree Chris, It is fair enough that Cliff put it out that he is looking for a sponsor here. There are a lot of fans and critics alike on this forum.
The fans and potential sponsors should not be influenced by the haters on this forum. A bump for considering sponsoring your favorite local champ or some of the hard working Pro's also. My first post was not so great either but I would do it again.
Since then, thanks to all the help from these couch computer pro's, I have learned better grammer.

Why is it that if someone has a disagreement with some of the pool elite on this forum they are called "haters"?

I was brought up with the mind set that disagreements are good.

Otherwise were just a bunch of minions.

Don.

PS. I do have a paypal account set up so I can get your sponsorship funds and work on being a "world class player". LOL

You certainly did not have permission to have the Roadie alias. As soon as Wilson confirmed that you were operating under an alias, the Roadie account was banned.

To refresh your memory:
How many alias in real life?
Collins, Kaplan, Barton.....who knows?

Just because you have an alias doesn't change this fact.
When I find the alias, it will be banned permanently as well.

You had permission?! lol. That one's a stretch, even for you.

So did you start the thread for Mr Joyner?

From the way the thread was started I thought it was him.

Just shows you where his real interest is. Getting "money" to enjoy what the rest of us have to pay for.

Don, I have promoted a lot of events and added a lot a cash out of my pocket to many tournaments over the years. I responded to this thread because I felt pool players in general were being degraded and belittled.
I will stick up for pool. I have played all over the country for many years and I have seen the best and the worst of people . Every one makes their own choices, I agree with that, Wishing I would have made a few different myself.
But when I come on this forum and see Cliff or other players beat down on a public forum I will come out fighting. I am a former road player and Cliff is one of the few I would let watch my child if I had to.
There are bad guy's out there but Cliff is not one of them. He is a hard working player that followed his dream, It is ashamed that pool hasn't progressed. But he keeps trying.
I am not here to start any verbal warfare, But in my opinion a lot of people show ignorance. And I don't even know if they know it, Some Gold members with 5k post plus do know it though and enjoy it, I think it makes them feel like they are someone special . And you know who you are.....You are just little people with a computer.
As far as getting a sponsor Don , Good luck. I will put a plug in for you. If you need lessons I would suggest ,Mark Wilson or Stan Shuffet. Once again ,
Good Luck

Did you really get screwed out of a $40,000 break-and-run? ---> HERE :shocked2:

Man, $40,000. WOW!

Beloit Break and Run Pot

Did you really get screwed out of a $40,000 break-and-run? ---> HERE :shocked2:

Man, $40,000. WOW![/QUO

It should have been titled cold roll in Beloit. It was worth about 5k per ball. I made 2 balls on the break , The cue ball stopped, right in the middle of table near the headstring. The 1 ball rolled about 3" from the corner pocket at the head of the table.
The table was wide open, Nothing tough, Well all balls stopped rolling and here comes the 8 ball , It freezes dire
ctly on the 1 ball. I was counting the cash LOL....So I kick 2 rails behind the 1 and hung the 8 ball in the long corner. If that fell the 1 ball was straight in 6 " from the pocket . OUCH !!!!!!!!!!

Man, oh, man, that is brutal. So you did get $10,000 for the 2 balls? That ain't too shabby. :)
