I am hesitant to post again in this thread, because I am obviously biased, but I guess I would like to share more details of my own experiences with this living legend of pool.
I am not trying to pressure anyone, nor am I trying to discount anyone's prior experiences. Everybody here on AZB is entitled to their own opinions and decisions, but that also includes my own. I hope you can respect that. And I hope this post isn't disrespectful to anyone else. These are just my personal observations. Take them for what they are worth.
1. I do not have personal experience in playing on the road, big stakes gambling, taking/giving a bite, or anything on a large scale like that. I've seen them many, many times, but have never participated in them myself. If that discounts my opinion, I understand.
2. I have been watching Cliff play one pocket (and rotation games) for almost as long as I have been playing pool. I will always remember my days in college, when I used to drive down to Houston, just on a rumor that he might be matching up. Once, after winning a match, he was giving a rookie like me 12-3, just for fun (like $5/game). I saw him run 12, three times in one night, all while smiling, laughing, and talking with this guy. I instantly became a huge fan.
3. Almost every time over the past 15 years that I showed up to watch a match, whether at a tournament, or a late night matchup, Cliff has taken it upon himself to walk over to me and chat for a few minutes. Almost every time, he has remembered my name, and even where I'm from. That may not be a big deal to you if you're well known, but I was nobody in pool (and maybe I still am). To me, that shows a lot of character on his part.
4. Cliff called me the other day, AFTER I had already sent my little "assistance" or whatever you want to call it. He spent a good 15 minutes chatting with me on the phone about his upcoming event, how he's preparing, thanking me, and discussing my own struggles with the game of one pocket. He didn't have to do that, but he did.
5. I already knew well enough that Cliff didn't actually physically type the OP here. He hardly uses text messaging, and barely even uses email. I don't even know if he has a smartphone yet.

Granted, it could have been handled better than the having the OP (whose name I don't know) writing in the first person. I guess I didn't have a problem with that, but I understand if some do.
6. Most of us here on AZB do have a regular job, and some of us are doing better than others, financially. I accept that. As far as I know, nobody here has criticized me for the life choices I've made, even though they haven't been the best. It's easy to reflect on the current status of the game, but maybe it didn't seem like such a bad idea to focus on his passion and area of expertise back when pool offered a way to potentially make a solid living. Looking back, maybe he would have chose something different (but I for one am glad he didn't). If I knew in high school what I know now, I would definitely have chosen a different career path.
All I know is that Cliff has always been extraordinarily nice to me and my friends, and never showed any disrespect to us. I don't know anything about the other mentioned incidents; I'm just relaying my own experiences.
And I'm not saying anyone should sponsor him just because he has been kind to me. That is not the point of this post. I'm just saying that when I think of pool, I think of Cliff. When I think of Cliff, I think of pool. If that's not sponsorship material, I don't know what is.
I hope that he finds a sponsor and kicks butt in the tournament. And I also hope that he checks back in, from time to time, to participate in some other threads. Despite the fact that some folks have their (perhaps justifiable) problems with his past, I believe that many of us here would welcome his occasional opinion. Surely, we could all learn a few things from him.
I wish the best for you, Cliff. You'll always be one of the good guys in my book.
