commentators get your stuff together

I'd direct you to check out the recent James Walden threads, but a few of them have been deleted due to new member accounts posted by one multiple-identitied poster for the sole purpose to slam someone, you know, kind of like this thread.

You're a little late to the thread. Stick around and read some before you insert the proverbial foot in mouth.

I have been reading those, but this is different, this is kinda usual for any type of forum (single topic/sport forums i mean), lets not be all conspiracy this and that about everything, or join date elitists, since commentary did actually suck...

imo, it sucked bigtime...definitly the worst i have heard in pool

Who is more qualified here? A person who actually watched the stream, heard the commentary, or a person who did not watch the stream, but has been on forums for a longer time...

I have watched the stream, and the commentary was just TERRIBLE, i know it's free, yes, i do, but it's still disrespectfull toward the viewer, even though it's free...that's how bad it was...yawning, cellphone vibrating, shouting, chewing...almost a parody of "normal" commentary..

Join date means nothing, there are many prime examples of that, with constant off topic spam in many topics...

I agree. It was BRUTAL. I mean, if you don't even need to pay someone money, I'm pretty sure if Alvin just reported what was going on in the game, it would be fine. The first game, he was NOT even watching the game?? The mute button was the ONLY option available. It's not really "free" if you don't like it, and why he does not want folks to "like" it is beyond me ??

okrad1337's point is valid. Join date means nothing. It's about the content of the post. The question is, "Is the content legitimate?" The original poster said he didn't like the quality of the commentary. New member or not, free commentary or not, agree with it or not - he stated an opinion, and that was his valid and relevant and legitimate opinion.

I don't think okrad1337 stuck his foot in his mouth. The "James Walden stuff" was shown to be non legitimate. It came from posters using multiple accounts, thus incidentally, some of those accounts were new and created for a non legitimate use. If the OP of this thread created a new account for the purpose of starting this thread, then it was most likely because he had a highly negative opinion and he simply wanted to remain anonymous. Not to say that is OK, but that it is different than the "James Walden stuff".

A new user creating an account for its legitimate purpose has a right to start using that account immediately for that purpose. Further, just because someone is new to this forum, it does not mean that person is new to pool or lacks common sense and thus would not be able to contribute productively to this forum.

For that matter, the date that okrad1337, started reading this thread is irrelevant as well. A person can provide their legitimate opinion at any time he chooses.

I like his avatar too. I hope I'm not too new, or too late to say that.

Of course, they can, but it helps to read an entire thread. I have been guilty of that myself. After posting, I see that same thing has been said earlier in the thread; IOW, if I had read the thread, I may not have posted my remarks.

Most men do. It's degrading to some female readers of this forum, of which we are a minority.

Do you have another dig you'd like to share? :)

You are missing the point...

I've never said anything like that to you before. Why would I start now?

"Problem solved" would be to cut commentary to the absolute minimum: At the beginning of each rack tell us what the score is. Use the remainder of the time to: rest & relax, find out scores of other matches, etc.

JoeyA, JayH and others do a great job of commentary when they're focused on the game (which is most of the time). But some of the commentators just blab on about anything but what's happening on the table. Bad commentary is distracting. It's like having two drunks sitting behind you at a sporting event arguing about politics and religion.

Turn up the table volume so we can feel like we're "ring-side."

As I've said before, I admire and appreciate free streamers dedication and hard work. That doesn't mean that everything they do is the right thing to do.

Thanks for the kind words about Jay and I.

I can appreciate wanting to have the table microphones cranked up a bit more but that is also "in the eye of the beholder".

The scores are normally posted so telling the scores of the match after each game isn't really needed. I like the idea of providing results and scoring of other matches going on and completed but we would need another person to collect that information. Jumping up and down from the commentary booth is distracting to the players. A "PRIVATE" headset audio feed from the producer of the Live Stream would be GREAT, at least from my perspective. I had that once from Dustin McCollum and it was so nice to have him feed information that the viewers wanted to know.

Rest & relax? That would be great but other groups of people enjoy the shot by shot commentary as well as the occasional story thrown in for good measure. There are just so many different likes that the viewers and listeners have that it is impossible to satisfy everyone. Still, hopefully all of the commentators will continue to improve and work hard to bring the pool audience our best. Just save the "roasting" for our annual get together celebration.

I don't think he was referring to your commentary Joey (edit: well obviously). I think he was acknowledging that the setting up for the live stream takes a ton of work and can make the streamer weary. If that becomes the case, and it would lead to bad commentary, then maybe resting and relaxing and doing minimal commentary during the match would be better than bad commentary. At least that was what I took from his remark. And again, I don't think that his remark was in reference to your commentary.

You're doing a disservice to pool by sounding like a ****ing moron. No one wants to hear you babble on and drunkenly sing. Just shut up and do your job.

Buy a camera setup, drive your butt to the tournament, stream it and do commentary.

There, we solved that didn't we?

Don't tell us the score at the start of each rack though if you can't follow the rest of the protocol above. In this case you will need to show us the score on the screen because we have now long since muted the annoying sounds coming from your mouth. This way we won't have to minimize the screen, sign in to chat and beg your buddies in chat who you are pre occupied with to tell us what the score is at any given time.

I understand that now Fatz, thanks!

I was just responding about his personal preferences and the preferences of others as compared to what realistically can be provided.

But I did miss the point (if that was made-"wooosh" about the streamer (and not the commentators) being worn out and needing R &R because of the setup.

Right, sometimes the streamer and the commentator are the same person, and it seems to be one of the points in this thread that this double duty can be too much for the poor guy.

Bingo.

This message is too short. Please expand it to at least 10 characters.

Have you ever made a post on the forum that does *not* mention Bonus Ball?

I guess they think 'they' are helping 'their' game

to me it shows insecurity of 'their' game while only encouraging negatives from the anti BB

BonusBall will work on its own ... if worthwhile

no need for all the false bravado imo
