Congrats Danny Harriman DCC 14.1 Challenge Champ!

haha I can't believe danny harriman woofed at me. I've run 42 balls once in my life, I'm not gonna play you, Danny. Beating me wouldn't make your case anyway. And I'm not out to bait you or instigate or whatever.

I do agree with the idea that skill and not politics should decide who's at these events, we're on the same page there... but if someone like Pat disagrees then I'd have handled my response a little differently. I wouldn't have trashed the guy in a public forum. I just can't think of him as a sleazy guy or someone who has bad intentions... he's worked hard to promote pool (including 14.1) and can even play a little, so it's not like he can't tell a shooter from a complete fish. Maybe he feels that on the right day Archer can compete with anyone in 14.1.

Again it was just a business decision at worst, you're taking it way too personal.

Your right but I am not going to say that I agree with Pat's decision either, I would not consider stating Pat is a member of the good ol boy committee to be slandering or trashing him on a public forum. The piggies are not Pat per say but more the way politics operate, I was not trying to trash talk Pat in any way. I learned alot from watching his product (accu stats) tapes growing up and am allways telling people about his tapes. There obviously trying to promote a certain group of players or something, I was running 200 balls + every othe week for a few months straight. You said I was taking it personally about not getting invited and I want to thank you creedo - people like u help give me incentive to play well. I think in 14.1 a players personality shows up more than in any other pocket billiard game. U probably can't fathom this maybe u can, I thrive off of being in those pressure situations.

This is something you will never probably be able to grasp and I realize personality and taking things personal are not one in the same. You don't have any chalk dust in your veins and I do, 42 balls is a nice run creedo - nothing to be ashamed of. I just call em' as I see "" which has not allways served me well in the past but what u see is what you get. I suppose you don't think I deserved to have been invited to the World 10 ball in Manilla after being the highest finishing American at the World 14.1 just months before. When I hear it's an invitational only - there is an sour sense of business as usual and popularity contest from the wordly. Aspiring players need to know this side of pool does exist and that it has nothing to do with your game. In my opinion Creedo u think out of the 9ft. box, this may be why u never made a player.

The desire to play has to be intense, not so much that the game controls you more on how a player can get the full value out of any oppurtunity to get to compete against the greatest players in the World when they feel confident in his or her game. I am very critical of my game, however I suggest you sweat the last tar match between Shmidt and I when we played 14.1. Even though I got beat in the other two games u really need to spend some time watching that tape, none of the players who got invited play 14.1 any better than I played against Schmidt. I had a skid at 130 something or I might have run away from him there, this all comes from a burning desire to play. I cannot get that intensity while just practicing so what I am saying is I WAS READY. I hope Pat does invite me on the next one and I will do my best to forgive him for being a good businessman on the first one, I would have been the last one to have been picked with the good ol boy committee but a little diversity is nice. Remember credo a little conflict of interests is one thing but the fans deserve to see the best, I secretley take pleasure in knowing that some of the fans who will not purchase the tapes of the invite party know that some the best 14.1 players were not there who were indeed very American. (Fact) Max Eberle and I are both the highest finishing (Native) Americans at the World 14.1 in the last few years but no invite for either one of us. Damn Pilgrams we did'nt know there was going to be so many of them ha ha. I just wante u to try and see it from a players perspective - someone who wakes up and pockets balls for a living OK.
Good luck with your game creedo. (I sincerely do mean that creedo)

It's good to be competitive, and I probably won't know what it's like to wake up every day wanting to play and beat the best for my daily paycheck. Nonetheless I would have handled things a little differently =) I hope it doesn't seem like I'm being deliberately bullheaded on this one. You have a legit complaint and obviously you have the skills to be invited any 14.1 invitational in the world.

With all that in mind you deserve a pass, unless you truly feel you didn't do anything wrong in the first place. In which case I guess a pass is pretty meaningless. Hell, a pass from some stranger on the internet is meaningless anyway but it's my way of saying no hard feelings and thanks for the kind words. I hope you get to play in (and win) future invitationals.

There was one more interesting note that I might mention about the 14.1, Jose Parica (one of the invitees) does not even compete at Bob Jewett's 14.1 event. This tells me that he does not play much 14.1, I am sure his bad game is awesome (I play will play Jose 14.1 for big $.) I heard Comet billiards was going out of business - I hope not. When I don't get invited I know it's a business decision and not from lack of quality play on my part when it comes to 14.1 events here in the USA.
It's ok the pockets are like giant gutters in that pool room anyhow, this way the invitee's don't look bad. Let them have their little party, I would rather compete on tight equipment as that is what I practice on.

If anyone does decide to test me - I will play any living human that has a pulse 14.1 here in the Midwest, as far as the wager that is DEFINITELY NEGOTIABLE, just give me a couple of weeks to prepare. You may look at this anyway you like, if this makes me sound like an ego maniac then so be it. I just enjoy matching up one on one where there are no politics, plus I might not be able to win in any other game playing Jose other than a long race in 14.1. The worst part about not getting the invite was having to hear all of the fans at the World tournament ask me "how come they did not invite you Danny you have to be an automatic invite?" The answer is - that is not the way the Wordly people operate, they operate more off the buddy system. As some of you know when dealing with systems there have to be adjustments made to the obvious rules hmm.

As for u Dave Nelson, the sooner you realize your a sinner the better off you will be for it, and I think you will play better pool. It's OK to take pride in what you do. Everyone falls from time to "" I think it's learning from our mistakes that helps to create personal growth and I love a good comeback story don't you? I take pride in knowing the fact that I am one of the greatest 14.1 players alive today and Pat does agree with me - I should have been invited. I would have probably handled my response alot differently if I worked for a living other than waking up each morning (creedo) and playing 14.1. By not inviting me their depriving the 14.1 viewing audience of possibly getting to see a real steller performance and keeping bread off my table. I might even want to take a closer look at my residual income from the accu stats just to make sure I get what is coming to me from Pat.

You got it mouth. Consider yourself tested. Since the wager is negotiable, I'm thinking maybe we'll bet one container of American Crew Pommade per set, plus table time. I'll post for five sets - - No need to spot me. :)

Before you start dealin', best know who you're dealin' with!

Alright, I'll bite. I guess I don't get this scandal. How's this work and what's his motivation?

As for accu-stats not paying a cut to the players - I'm not sure if it ought to. They aren't being rebroadcast and the players know about it. I never heard of one complaining about it. It started out as a way to track player statistics and became a way to just watch high level pool. It's not that I don't want the players to make extra money, I know they should be able to make more... but if it means the price of the videos goes up and sales goes down, it can't be good for pool in general. I have the feeling accu-stats is a pretty small operation and isn't in it to gouge anyone. I never hear that he got rich off of it.

Strickland has refused to play on Accu-stats tables at the US Open in the past on at least one occasion that I personally witnessed.

Calling out all 14.1 players

Ha ha too bad for you I allready have a container of that, but no seriously if anyone who is mesmorized by any phillipino or other foreigner player's 14.1 game including Jose that would enjoy making the trip to MO can. I won't run away and have ample funds available no matter who you are. I only hope that someone has a ringer that is well established financially can hunt me down. I am not hard to find but knowone has tried except for shmidt, and his effort was not really that impressive to me however I did learn from it. I have offered this in the past and nonbody has ever showed and no this does not feed my ego. I want to play can you understand?
Anyone know anyone on Saturn that plays 14.1 for $?
I do not play pool to make friends however in order to get invited to some of these events you must whisper in the right ear. In the last two yrs there would be very few people who had played as much 14.1 as I had and I'm sure Pat feels bad for not having invited me on the first one, and so do I but whats done is done. Once again if your a name player I will help promote the match (ref) and pay for your trip somewhat, so Pat can back Jose or Johnny Archer and tape it on accu stats I won't mind a bit - no hard feelings win or lose.
if anyone knows "" who will play me races to 300 points for the cash then the window is open. Ohh and I will watch more closely what I say as I don't want to lose my hair cream in my next pool match. OK I WILL say it (That's all folks.)

Putting everything that has been said in this thread aside, I would like to say that I admire your skills on the pool table, Danny. The fact that you are so under-rated and over-looked is a pity. Your specific talent and knowledge of 14.1 should garner you more respect. You are one of the best of this generation.

FWIW, I place you (and your fellow American, John Schmidt, for that matter) at the top of the heap from around the world in overall skill, not just 14.1. You two have such well-rounded games, that you can compete in all games. Not everyone can say that.

I guess I just wanted you to know that the loudest voices on the board do not represent the opinion of all on the board. Your participation on AZB is much appreciated.

IMO Danny Harriman is the greatest all around american player. period. Schmidt is also excellent but where Danny beats him in the all around is Danny can play banks GOOD.

Start preparing. The rumors of our deaths have been greatly exaggerated, and Ralph and I will be getting to Missouri one of these days. Right now we're having too much fun hanging out with Elvis.

thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to Masconiac and others who had some nice compliments of my game. I guess I was fishing for some reassurance from my fellow az'ers also - thanks I needed that. Straight Pool might not be marketable for TV but I do think it is more of an art than say 9 ball, it should be the championship tournament game and kudos to Charlie Williams and Dragon promotions for helping keep it alive. If it were filmed correctly (highlights of certain shots, player profiles and a little more enthusiasm from the commentary box. Bottom line here is if I had plenty of $, I would get a marketing degree and prove everyone wrong about 14.1 being the game of the past.

Sincereley, Danny Harriman

Danny -

I worked at GE at Springfield, MO, years ago. Watching you, Darren Everrett, and Dave Matlock play inspired me to play. You have had more of impact than you know. Darren and Dave have done the same.

I remember watching you and Darren battle and battle and wish I had video of those games.....wow.

Truely I am a fan, and I thank you for your inspiration.

Ken

Danny's Video

I'm still trying to get Danny's DVD, the MySpace ordering page seems to be a dead end and I'm having to go through paypal to refund the charge. Danny, if there is a better way for me to order this, please post and I'll jump on it.

Keep up the good fight, you're a great player. I'd LOVE to see you win the World 14.1 Championship.
