Congrats to John Schmidt

furys awesome

im pretty busy today but i gotta say a few things.
first of all my fury cue is great .if anything its the reason i got into finals because it plays awesome.
yes i played awful in finals but something came out of playing that bad that will help me.

anyone thats ever watched me play knows including me that i rise up ever so slightly thru impact when im uptight, nervous, unsure etc.

sometimes though if i start off bad in match and lose my confidence combined with maybe the rooms freezing ,also ive just had a real sugar laden drink ,plus im high strung anyway.all that seems to combine to my fundamentals going out the door, because i start moving up and out of shots and decelerating bigtime and i miss everything i shoot at,speeds off etc.

anyway im not making excuses im saying that its my fault when i play that bad ,i even know how to fix it midmatch, but sometimes i get so disgusted that my timing is so far off and im moving on my delivery and i play terrible.

i went to my poolroom last night and thought im going to focus on staying down and following thru and i played as good as i ever have.

granted i was by myself no pressure etc but it proved to myself why i fall apart under pressure sometimes.my stroke gets qiuck and i jump up period.

i guess the moral of the story is stay down and follow thru .u would think i know that by now .

at anyrate my cues awesome and nothings wrong with me,just next time i play bad someone put a shock collar on me and if i get quick etc shock me.

actually u should plug that collar into a million volt generator and really juice me if i play that bad again lol.

Do you mean the CueTec cues that earl modified with the custom made wood shafts and the sawing off of the butts and rubber frips + weight bands added. Yeah, he won a lot of titles under the CueTec brand but definitely not with any CueTec that a regular person could buy.

After I bought a new Mustang back in 87, I put on a Paxton supercharger , a shifter , subframe connectors , and slicks . Yep , it was modified .

Didn't make it 'not a Mustang' .

Maybe a 'regular person' can't 'buy' it , but they can sureashell pay someone to modify theirs too . . .

I'm like Tim the Toolman Taylor - I'm never happy with anything I own until it's been modified .

yep , even my custom made John Robinson cue has been modified since 1984 - it has a different TIP now . . . . ;)

I can't help but feel for John- It reminded me of the days of Earl Playing with cuetec . And playing terrible because of his sponsorship cue. All those adds for Fury made me sick. It looked like an ob shaft. But I couldn't help but feel for John -I've never seen him miss shots like he did in the finals. I also relate it to Shane using his sponsorship cue. He wasn't the same player either. I know Shane plays better with a Joss, and how good did John play with a bobby hunter. Sorry ,Art I hope you did make some money selling the fury's. but in my eyes John was at a great disadvantage. I'd rather pay for a stream than force these players to compete at a disadvantage.

You need tazed for making such comments

Can I be your designated shocker???? I promise to stay down and follow through!

J/k John. Do your thing!:woot:

Right on brother

UNfortunately, your paying for a stream isn't going to pay John's bills. Sponsor's like Fury step up to the plate for professional players and should be respected and appreciated rather than denigrated.

I'm sure that John Schmidt's input will be appreciated by Fury Cues and their involvement with each other with only yield MORE positive things for both parties.

JoeyA

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE. Besides, cue makers tune pro player's cues to their preferences.

Well, when you chop off the rear end, switch out the seats and completely replace the front end and motor then it really isn't a mustang, it's a Custom with a Mustang look and emblem.

Which BTW I would like to have.

John, it's great you are happy playing with your sponsors cue and good luck in all your future endeavors and yes it is very impressive you made it to the finals with that cue but can you tell us what if any modifications you have had done the your Fury cue you played with?

Tip?
Shaft?
Wrap?
Weight/Balance position?
Joint?

Thanks

here's a cheer for Fury Cues for supporting 14.1 and putting their money where their mouth is.

and a shout out for John Schmidt for taking the time to tell us what he Really thinks, and being a great guy as well as one of the best players alive.

both class acts.

I have a better idea... every time you miss a shot, miss position, jump up, do something stupid ...whatever... you get 5 minutes in the cage against Joe Rogan .

:grin-square:

After you read John's response in this thread, I hope you will post your apology to the people at Fury!

Steve

This is a joke

Pay me to use your stuff. I miss and then someone else says wow that is a rotten deal. You get paid win or loose but maybe if the earth was spinning slower or the planets are out of line or some other BS.
A player can get used to anything. Once they are used to it....
NO excuse.
Everyone was so gun ho about High runs and everything else John has done with a cue he was used to.
No excuses. A thread like this is poor form reflecting on the mans sponsor.
It is no favor you are doing anyone here. If it looses his sponsorship will you cover his lose?
Nick :)

I don't know anything about the player and sponsor involved but I would like to comment that cues are a funny thing.

Over the course of the 40 or so years I've played pool a few pool cues have passed through my hands, with which I just played way better with, for reasons I could never really put my finger on. Of course being the Joe Average Pool Player that I am I let them go and kept on buying different cues until I finally settled on a cue about 15 years ago.

I think the pro player is pretty likely to be able to play with just about any cue. But I think, even for them to play at the highest levels of competition, there may be an intangible or two about certain cues that even they should take into consideration.

Lou Figueroa

I think you're right Lou. For me, it is mostly about weight and balance of the cue. When it is 'right', it just has a certain 'feel' to it. Also, being able to shoot that long stun shot just right, or being able to control the cue ball like it is on a string. LOL ... it's kind of like finding the right woman in a way.

Hmmmm

Hey, even Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken had a bad day or two. And nobody played harder or with more class than either one of those guys.

Go get the next one because we will be routing for you ! Thanks for posting. RJ

Thanks to Fury and Sterling

Dear John I just expected you to win like always. There is no way this post is a reflection of John's relationship to Fury. I apologize to Fury and anyone who is upset with my post. I didn't think before posting. Please John and Fury except my apology. mark

Nicely said John.

I remember a few years ago you played on ESPN, might of been the texas hold'em match or skins and you missed a key shot, I am thinking what you said in this post might of been on target for that miss. We are all human and pool is a game of not only skill, but a lot of mental factors that come into play.

As for equipment, look at Allison Fisher and Cue tec, she is the greatest female player ever and look how many wins she has, nuff said.

I wish people would get their facts straight before they post a thread with statements not questions !

FYI when Shane played Scott Frost in the TAR match on a 7 foot diamond, Justin or Nasty was heard saying it was a Cuetec R360 right out of the factory plastic !
I think all he has changed is the tip since then. I asked him and he said he uses a triangle tip !
