I'll be needing to order some pins and inserts soon. I've been looking around and Connecticut Cue Parts has some good prices on plain pins and inserts. Has anybody dealt with them? How's the quality?

cue parts

I have ordered from them in the past and they are great to deal with and have the best prices I can find you may also want to try Tommy Milgore at TNS cues he makes parts for most cue makers
Travis

there pins are are rolled threads not as accurate as machined threads

i think you have it backwards.i am not sure if CT cue part sells rolled or cut pins, but rolled pins are more accurate or have tighter tolerances than cut pins.the rolled pins are also stronger and cheaper.

I don't want to start a heated debate...but I have to disagree that rolled is better and tighter.
I'm by no means an expert and it may very well have to do with the type of machine it is rolled or thread formed in or on....But.....the egg shaped metal and crappy finish on some of the " billiards suppliers" parts were exactly why I seeked out and went to a high precision, machine cut pin.

I've bought from CCP a few times and they are excellent to deal with. I've bought weight bolts, joint protector pins, and 3/8-10 joint pins of various metals to use as forearm-handle connecting pins. No shipping on orders over a C-note. I wish they'd make .015 the nickel-silver rings!

As Travis mentioned, Tommy Migliore a terrific source for top quality joint pins and other machined cue maker itmes.

Thanks!

Thanks guys! Looks like CCP is worth a try.

BTW, just to fuel the fire:D I did a search and it seams that roll formed threads ARE suppose to be more accurate. Of course, that claim was found on the site of a manufacturer of rolled thread rod:p

Never had any trouble with cct's parts, the only thing I don't like is they no longer polish their pins,

Today, leadscrews offer many distinct advantages for motion control. For instance, precision thread rolling yields lead accuracy of 0.0001 mm/mm at approximately one-tenth the cost of ground screws in lengths to 4 m. Polymer composite nut materials provide high strength, capable of supporting dynamic loads to 250 kg, long life (over 750 million cm of travel), and can be molded to custom shapes. In addition, antibacklash nuts automatically compensate for wear.

Engineers at Nook Industries have reportedly come up with a way to thread roll screws with a lead error of just 0.0001 inch per linear ft

looks like accuracy is fairly close between the 2 now.i guess in the past the cut threads were more accurate, but the rolled thread technology has caught up and surpassed it maybe.

Does this just mean they have a dull cast or are they rough? I bought some from Atlas a year or two ago that looked (and felt) like somebody made them with a file. They wouldn't even screw into the inserts. That's part of why I'm looking around for other sources.

If it's just that they are dull rather than shiny, is there a way to polish them yourself?

I know what you mean, They don't look chattered to me, I use polish and a buffing wheel. I just preferred when I didn't have to.
For the others, shanks on pins are a can of worms, I and everyone else knows this already, and I have the greatest respect for everyone on this forum but for my own personal preference, I don't care why the Chicken crossed the road, My concern with my cues is why I do.
