My " pool stick cane " arrived today. The shaft is stores securely inside of the handle. The brass knob unscrews in half with enough storage for a cube of chalk. Not sure of the wood, but it is hand carved. The brass knob has pretty good weight to it so if need be seems like this would make a real good club too, jk lol😆. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? Any idea how old or maker? Anyway saw it and thought it was neat and it was cheap so I picked it up .

I've seen one on the pdx craigslist once in a while. Thought about grabbing one myself, but heard they hit like crap and im not sure i need another trash cue, though it can't be much worse than what ive got now. Let us know what you think of it and maybe ill change my mind(and hide it real well in the closet).

Yeah, I have not hit any balls with it but I'm gonna guess it hits like crap by the looks of the shafts / tip. Total novelty item but kinda cool. I had never seen one before I saw this one.

They're pretty common. Not worth much, and don't play well. Generally just a trinket.

Kind of neat to have one.

Hard to say. 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90's

Even still available new.

Some of them were brought back from Asia by servicemen. Perhaps as far back as WWII.

I have seen claims of rarity, custom manufacture, and all sorts. I've seen people literally try to get thousands for them. But honestly most of the old carved ones are worth maybe 10 or 20 bucks as a curiosity.

Commonly available on Ebay: http://www.ebay.tv/sch/i.html?_sop=...ue&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

On Ebay they can draw 50, 60, 70, even 80 bucks. Once in a while somebody will pay even more. I really think it's because people don't know what they are looking at.

I guess since people are willing to pay that, we might say that is what they are worth. But I have passed up many of them in the 10-20 range. Many.

I have vever seen one that was worth much as a collectible, as an antique, or as a pool cue.

I would love to be proven wrong. I would love to see one worth a bunch. I just never have. I did once see one sell for several hundred that had an ivory head on it. But that was the Ivory value.

I agree with your entire post.

That looks like something that would be a good companion for my Budweiser cue.

Wonder how it would play with a good ferrule/tip combination.

Isn't that always the question?

Last weekend I was shooting with a Mizerak "Dove" cue with a Scruggs ivory ferrule shaft on it. Shot like a dream. LOL!

I'm sure it would get you plenty of action on the BB at your favorite watering holes...if you got the hustle down with it. I never owned one...I don't know why. Johnnyt

I got hooked on pool when I was in the Navy electronics school in San Diego, in 1966. One of the guys I played with was from Los Angeles. He showed up one Monday after a visit home with a $100 BirdsEye Maple TAD cue.

A year later my ship visited Hong Kong. I had the idea I would bring some nice cues back. I asked around and was given the address of an exporter that may have some cues. I took a long cab ride to what looked like a high end private estate (In my mind now I hear the Gold Finger theme). The export inventory was in the basement, but all he had was cheap $10 cues.

I have two of them given to me by my grandpaw years ago. ill have to pull one out never played with either of them . I can imagine it cant play any worse than a Walmart stick. think a black dot shaft would get it playing good LOL.

Yes they are very common and are still available new. Many were Ebonized and then Japan and other islands were engraved on the handle and painted with very bright colors. They were sold as souvenirs to our troops after WW2. I have one with an Ivory ferrule.

I have one that looks like yours. Where you have the chalk there is supposed to be a rubber ball with a hole in it to hold the walking cane tip when your playing.

I think they're pretty cool. Mine was pretty rough when I got it but still very straight. I sanded it down and refinished it. Put a good tip on it and it plays ok.

I carried it around for a week or so and actually won the local 8 ball tournament with it which more than paid for it lol. Haven't even thought about it in a while.

Have fun with it.

I found one in the garage cleanout . to embarrass to take it to the pool hall. So I threw it in my garage where it sits today
