Corruption Hotline for Pool Players

It's a shame that the American male pros don't have an organization representing them in the year 2010. Elsewhere, though, due to match fixing and other unsavory practices on a field of green, a corruption hotline has been established.

Snooker’s governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association has introduced a hotline so that professional snooker players can report incidents of match fixing.

The players will attend a meeting in Germany where the European Tour Championship is taking place. The meeting will inform players how they can report any suspicious activity or approaches in relation to match fixing.

Speaking at a press conference the WPSBA disciplinary chief David Douglas said, "It is a hotline and email service for the players that is anonymous or otherwise."

"The players can use it to report suspicious activities or to inquire about information about the rules and regulations,” added Douglas.

Here's John Higgins in his first tournament since April 2010 when all hell broke loose with him being accused of match fixing. Higgins made a triumphant return as he defeated Shaun Murphy to win the Euro Players Tour Championship in Hamm, Germany.

What do you think about a corruption hotline for pool? It might be a good idea to keep everything on the up and up, especially opening the doors for online betting on pocket billiards. :grin-square:

Wow, there's a double edged sword. If established in the US, I'd be concerned that a high % of anonymous allegations would be vindictive and baseless. Sifting through the claims would take a lot of time and a super-sized-shit filter.

It'll be interesting to see how this snooker hotline works.

Went broke again

I know a ton of guys need a 'WHITE FLAG' hotline.

..ya know, like, where they could get advice,like...

..live to fight another day
..puttin' someone on 3 fouls is not reason to go to confession
..two-way shots is no reflection on your sexual orientation

LMAO!!! But i feel you are 100% correct. The Americans would clogg phone lines for months on end. The image of the game as it's called so much would go even further in the toilet. And let's face it, it's in the toilet now because of it's American audience.

Not to sound too "third-world countryish", but we Americans do know how to f*ck up a good thing :sorry:.

It might make a player think twice about dumping, match-fixing, drinking, popping pills, smoking marijuana (unless prescribed and in California -- :grin-square:), snorting in the men's room, rigging racks deliberately with malice aforethought, et cetera.

Would it elevate American pool to a new and higher standard?

In another vain, though, I do wonder if a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week shot hotline would work. You know, call a player who's working duty that shift for how to make a shot. Hmm, my pool entrepreneurial mind is in overdrive, I guess. :embarrassed2:

Just make it a caller pays hotline and it might be rather lucrative. Although I doubt the hotline could do anything to enforce "corruption" in the pool world.

Would this apply to bracket rigging as well?? This is something thats needs a watchdog as well.

Corruption? That's something we Louisianians know a great deal about.

If we had a corruption hot line in place, would you get a reward for reporting or would it just be pro bono? :p:rotflmao1:

JoeyA, this is OT, but have you ever heard of an area in the Gulf Coast region called "Cope Adree" [phonetic]?

The person said the area covered was west to Cope Adree [phonetic] and east to Grand Isle.

I cannot find anything that sounds like "Cope Adree" on Google.

Does it ring a bell?

No, that doesn't ring a bell for me. We have Parish (county) called Pointe Coupee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe_Coupee_Parish,_Louisiana

Many of the marshes and waterways of the Gulf Coast region have French names but I've never heard of Cope Adree unless it that was that Cajun Police Officer Andre the Cop, who worked in the the French Quarter who was always getting things backwards.

On a more serious note, there's also a Jerry Cope who is the Paul Revere for the Gulf Coast BP debacle.

Worst idea since Jello break tips.
It would take about thirty seconds to turn into the Whiners Hotline.

JAM, you're probably referring to Cocodrie, LA, which is approx. 30 miles south of Houma on Terrebonne Bay.

Bingo! Thanks, Doc. I also got a PM from another area resident who recognized it. Man, I just couldn't understand this guy's words.

Much appreciated. :)

And, JoeyA, thanks for your kind help, too. Some of those names are difficult to understand. I had no idea what they were talking about when they said "Placqueminnes," until I heard it a few times and then realized it's a parish.

And you're right, the politics there are brutal. The parishes all seem to be quite competitive with each other. I was working on a job about the Coast Guard which was all about the Gulf region. I had to smile when one Coastie said the local fishermen soon because good friends with the Coast Guard folks helping them out, and when their 30-day tour was over in the Gulf, the last five days they were invited to fish fries, crawfish boils, and other hospitalities. The Coastie said he's made friends for life down Louisiana way, just from his short 30-day tour. It was cool! :)

I think maybe we have such an organization... well, not an organization as such but we have azbillards and "things" often seem to get "straightened out" through the use of these forums.
