Cost of bloodwood into ebony sneaky

I know most of the cue makers in the $$ range i can afford use blanks, so i am just curious..what would be the cost to have a "simple" bloodwood into ebony sneaky made? Thanks for the input. I have to save and plan for my cues years in advance..maybe years and years in this economy :)
 
Why don't you just call Schmelke and talk turkey with them? They make excellent quality sneaky blanks and they make cues as well for low $$$. It will save other cuemakers time and $$$ and you'll likely get what you're looking for unless you have to save for years and years and years for an item under $200.00.

I know about schmelke, and i know they have a bloodwood into maple sneaky, but i did not know they did custom work..like custom wood combos, esp for cheap. I will shoot them an email. I was also just checking to see who on here would do a combo like that...maybe schmelke is my best option. Thanks
 
just for a price reference,simple meaning one shaft and no rings and a LePro tip would cost about $400 from me or $450 with rings,but i am not really making sneakies right now.


the cue would be a little butt heavy with either wood up front b/c both woods are heavy and you will need a light pin,but i think keeping it under 20oz wouldn't be tough at all with a G-10 pin and drilling into the butt a few inches.


i would guess the blank from Schmelke to be $75-$100 depending on where the Ebony is,but i have no idea what they charge to build them out and finish them.i bet martin is close though at around $200.

I visit Schmelke once or twice per year. They do not only make two cuts on shafts. They know what they are doing.

A bloodwood into ebony sneaky will be far too heavy. Look for 25+ ounces with a 13mm shaft.

I have been buying wood from the Schmelke's for 15 years. I have seen their shaft machine at work ( it cuts about 5 shafts at a time). They have shafts at verious stages, on shelves. They definitly do not cut their shafts or their butts in only 2 passes...JER
 
just something i was told;glad to hear it was a myth.cutting shafts in 2 passes probably wouldn't be the best idea,but if they stay straight it doesn't really matter anyway.

i do like Schmelke and their products,and they have high quality billiard products at better prices than the rest.


i still say i could get that cue close to 20oz though.
 
When I first started cutting my shafts from 1 inch dowels in 1992 I asked a popular shaft provider, who sells their shafts at first cut, second cut and third finish cut, whom I had been buying shafts from, how long they waited between cuts. I was told that they make three passes and wait one week between passes. About 2 months later I asked again as I thought maybe they never understood my question so I asked again and got the same answer.
I guess what works for one is not good for others but I know this place has been in business for a long time and is still selling shafts by the thousands.

That cue with rings and a cored center would run you $600 done from scratch in my shop. But what ever weight it comes out is the weight you get unless we need to add a little.

you can do a full length core on a full splice blank? I was told before that it is not a good idea to core through a splice like that.

Whether it is a good idea or bad idea that is about the only way to build a playable cue with those two woods in a full splice. Sounds like Bob is the man to build the cue. Price is great and he will guarantee the weight.

You don't necessarily have to do a full length core to lighten the final weight. you could always bore from both ends making the cue lighter but still keeping it's integrity.
