I think Jay-Z might have some comments on the likelihood of a handout to pool players and fans.
He's nowhere near the star of a Paul Newman.
Does this come from personal experience? Most everything I have seen, heard, or read about him, he seems like a pretty normal dude.To be totally honest he is pretty much a self-centered prick. I wouldn't see him doing anything for pool and for that matter why should he, what's in it for him.
He has been in a position to do something for pool for a long time, we are still waiting. Waiting for the Rogan "World all around". Small pool room owners who live practically hand to mouth do more for pool then he ever has.Can we revisit this statement for a sec. Are you saying Tom Cruise, aka Maverick, Jack Reacher, Cole Trickle, Ethan Hunt, and...Vincent, is nowhere near the star that Paul Newman was?
I am not arguing since I was not around in Newman's prime, but man I sure thought Tom Cruise would be a much bigger global superstar...

I hear you, but thatbdoes not make him a self centered prick. He has no obligation to save pool...no more than you or I do..He has been in a position to do something for pool for a long time, we are still waiting. Waiting for the Rogan "World all around". The truth is, he does have a reach few if any have and he could care less about pool promotion.
It's really easy spending other people's money, isn't it?He has been in a position to do something for pool for a long time, we are still waiting. Waiting for the Rogan "World all around". Small pool room owners who live practically hand to mouth do more for pool then he ever has.

Your right, poor choice of words.I hear you, but thatbdoes not make him a self centered prick. He has no obligation to save pool...no more than you or I do..
What would it cost him to have a player on his podcast? I know people who personally reached out to his team to try and get Jeanette on when her cancer diagnosis hit. Crickets. Which again, is fine. It’s your podcast. Wanna have Joey Diaz on instead for the eleven hundredeth time? god bless. But we need to stop looking at the guy as a potential savior because he’s not interested. It's really easy spending other people's money, isn't it?
I get the impression that Paul Newman was more of an icon than Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise is certainly a successful actor with many great roles to his credit but I sort of feel like Newman was more of a public figure. Sort of like how some athletes are famous for playing the game well and some cross over into a bigger level of fame. My impression might be influenced by the different eras or that Newman was a top actor before I was born. Can we revisit this statement for a sec. Jeanette is far and away the most popular player among non-pool people. She’s crossed over more than anyone else and her cancer diagnosis made national headlines to the point that Sports Illustrated did a take out on her.Sorry, but putting Jeanette Lee on to discuss cancer is unrealistic. The only thing it accomplishes is a ratings freefall. Janette, who? Cancer, what?! For the hundred or so people that did remain tuned-in, it would be for the Cancer discussion and do nothing for pool, anyway.
That doesn't mean the program, or Rogan, is unsympathetic to cancer. For all any of us knows, he contributes to R&D, foundations for kids, or any number of other good causes. It's also totally unreasonable to infer "no interest in saving pool." The ideas just need to be better.
I don't disagree. However, in the grand scheme of things her "star-power" is very niche. Then there's the subject matter.Jeanette is far and away the most popular player among non-pool people. Then tell us what he’s done to help pool.I don't disagree. However, in the grand scheme of things her "star-power" is very niche. Then there's the subject matter.
I was more inclined to comment because of the two major conclusions, or rather assumptions, being drawn. One, Rogan is unsympathetic/doesn't help concerning cancer. Two, he doesn't care about helping pool. There's an awful lot of weight on this limb.
No.I know he has said in the past the problem with trying to have a podcast with pool as the topic would be too short or not interesting enough.
I get that but with Jayson now having the top run in 14:1 and Rogan being a decent player that understands the game do you think he could make it happen?
If not I would like to see maybe a mini episode with him and Jayson or any other top player. Joe Rogan has 11 MILLION viewers for every podcast that he does!!
I know he loves the game and has a big heart but what do you think he could do to make it interesting enough? I personally think you would have to have some of the old time guys talk about their road stories. Nothing I’ve ever heard is more colorful than a good road story!!!
Thoughts…..
Pool doesn't care where the charity comes from and does not preclude any potential sugar daddy.Could he? Sure.
Will he? Nope. Hasn’t lifted a finger yet to help this industry. And, just so we’re clear, he’s under no obligation to. It’s just getting old to see people look at someone who doesn’t appear interested in helping as a potential savior.
Did you miss the 2 1/2+ hours that HIS FRIEND Justin Collett of TAR spent on his show years ago?I know he has said in the past the problem with trying to have a podcast with pool as the topic would be too short or not interesting enough.

'Help' or 'save' pool...wtf does that mean anyway?Sorry,...totally unreasonable to infer "no interest in saving pool." The ideas just need to be better.
Here we go again. Yet another guy that thinks he should have some say so in how other people should spend their time and money. Please help me understand, why do you feel that you should be able to expect that somebody else puts their time and money where you feel it is important instead of where they feel it is important? This comes across as the height of narcissism coming from a serious narcissist to me.He has been in a position to do something for pool for a long time, we are still waiting. I think you misread what I wrote. I don't care if he does anything for pool. I was saying he hasn't yet, so what make them think he is going to start now. Here we go again. I certainly didn't misread it. Your post had four sentences, and all four of them read as complaints about how Joe Rogan isn't doing anything for pool, with the clear implication being that you feel he should be. That is how it naturally reads, and if you meant something else it was very poor wording, something we've all done from time to time.I think you misread what I wrote. I don't care if he does anything for pool. I was saying he hasn't yet, so what make them think he is going to start now.
