Could Joe Rogan help with pool?

I don't watch his program but he is a drug addict and promotes the use. I suspect his apology for saying stupid stuff is a direct result of him being messed up on drugs most of the time.

If that's the image pool wants then he would help the image of pool.
So you don’t drink? You’re straight edge.

No meds when you’re sick?

His influence has become diminished and just how much is way too soon to predict.

Just saying that I am not the same person today because I see and understand things
differently than back when I used racist language and expressed racist opinions, that
boat just ain’t gonna float nowadays. I dunno what epiphany he experienced but it kind
of sounds like it’s financially related. He doesn’t want to see his earnings suffer since as
soon as you get identified as a racist, or defending the use of a hate word or racist views,
you just capped the size of your audience and it shrunk becoming a lot smaller than before.

You can shove that Blut and Bloden, i.e., Blood and Soil, so far up your asses that the taste
reaches your lips. Ain’t no room in America for bigotry despite the best efforts underway today.

Everyone is sorry - once they're caught.

I've been quiet in this thread but I seriously dislike Joe Rogan, always have, long before Spotify and even YouTube.

That was exactly my point - do we REALLY want people like Joe Rogan promoting pool? I think not.

Someone mentioned Matchroom - THEY are the type of people we want promoting pool - otherwise - more of the same.

I do not agree with the often repeated cliche' that pool is not a spectator sport.

Why does Joe watch it so much, as he says, then? He spectates. I spectate. Many others do, too.

Saying folks don't/won't watch it isn't helping the sport. Look at how Matchroom is bypassing that outdated paradigm and succeeding at showing us pool. It takes what most pool players seem to abhor: marketing, marketing, marketing.

Yep, getting the kids playing is the nuts. I'm thinking temporary pool table stores in the malls that are transitioning to playplaces not shopping centers, might allow skools to have afternoon leagues there, as one part of their marketing.

Most of the players in our 600 person league have no interest in the professional game. Only about 0.5% will enter local or regional tournaments. The bulk of them enjoy the weekly league night, but don't stick around to watch.

Some of them watch more snooker than pool, but don't play snooker since there's only one snooker table in the area.

I had chased the idea of a student league for high-school and college students, but the room owner wasn't interested if he had to do anything.

But i gave some thought to providing a table for a couple of high schools in the area and may still do that once I see what happens after covid retreats some more, and if someone at the schools will take a role in managing it.

gosh, seems like a super minority of non-supporters would deny Joe an ownership* berth like they denied Rush' a F-ing NFL partnership. And, for a similar bogus claim of being racist of black people - - - pointing out the obvious that the hacks in the NFL front office of BLM stooges wanted a QB hero to be black.

I don't care one way or the other about Rogan and as far as I'm concerned they can make Bozo the Clown the spokesman but Rogan comes with baggage and a lot of it. Seems like an odd choice.

You get it! I don't give a damn about all those old statues one way or the other, or the long time nicknames. I prefer to live in the present and not the past!
You don't care about them, but many do, and they have strong ties to their past. I'll give an example. My wife is from a Civil War town. Billboards exclaim, "Come visit the Battle of Franklin!" Tour buses stop at important skirmishes with historical markers reliving the battles and There are daily tours of plantation houses. The town's identity is tightly tied to the Civil War. Instead of removing their Civil War cannons and statues from the town square, they decided to ADD a stature of a US Colored Troops soldier. A pretty good compromise...

You people seem hellbent on trying to use Joe to be your new anti liberal anti establishment voice. You’re just as bad as the people wanting to use him as political tool by canceling him.

You can tell right away that those people don’t know and don’t listen to him. He’s never been that guy and never will be.
Truth here. He can sit down and talk hunting with Ted Nugent and make fun of all the Vegan/Peta folks who think he is disgusting, and the next day talk about how much he loves andrew yang, tulsi gabbard, and the bern.

So he'll let any dangerous bullshit be promoted on his show, unchallenged, as long as he's getting his $100 million.

Great pool ambassador.

I never said he would be a great pool ambassador. He is a comedian that talks for a living. Be pretty boring conversation if you had the same viewpoints on day after day...be about like maddow or carlson.

As he said in his stand up the other night "you're listening to the guy who used to make people eat animal dongs on TV for medical advice? I talk shit for a living"

And that's why he should never be taken seriously.

Some people prefer to live in that past, and that's okay with me. It's one thing to remember the past and still another to dwell in it.
I know the history of the Civil War fairly well. including the Battle of Franklin, which was a devastating loss for the Confederates by the way. It is part of a our nation's history, a dark part that I hope will never be revisited. To glorify such a battle has no appeal for me.

The Civil War ended nearly 160 years ago! Isn't it time we quit fighting about it and trying to relive it. For all the Revisionists who like to re-enact these battles I will say only this - It's 2022 Now!

Really, Jay, who is living in the past, or dwelling on it? That would be the woke liberals who think they can rewrite history by obliterating it.

Yep, My great-grandpa back in Alabama used to say that if those sissies in Tennessee knew how to fight, Sherman would have never made it to Atlanta!

Yes, but the Queen's Gambit was the story of a young, introverted girl who was a social misfit and had substance abuse issues. Beth Harmon was the kind of person we all root for, because we all admire those who emerge from life's deepest trenches and find success of any kind.

In pool movies/shows, pool has never been presented as the outlet for a troubled introvert suddenly obsessed with the game's inner beauty but instead as a haven for those who want to win money gambling at it with less skilled players.

Beth Harmon, unlike any pool player ever presented in film, etched her entire legacy in the legitimate world of tournaments, and her journey helped us to understand, with great fascination, what serious chess is all about and what it is like to compete at the very highest level. We learned what it's like to sit across the table from the world title holder ready to try to match wits with a champion whose legend is both enormous and intimidating. We learned what's it like to win and receive genuine admiration and positive feedback from your opponent.

If a pool equivalent of "the Queen's Gambit" were made, unless it steered clear of the seedy world of action pool, the public would not be able to fully appreciate the world of legitimate pool and the true beauty of the game when played by the world's greatest players. As long as the top pool players are viewed by the public as predatory gamblers, pool will always have an image problem that will obstruct its wide acceptance.
I agree with you that the introverted Beth Harmon is different than that of pool movies, but no reason why a writer couldn't take that same character approach to a pool narrative. But what's wrong with presenting pool as it is? It's a common theme that pool enthusiasts want pool to get back to a wide and mainstream acceptance as a gentlemen's game. IMHO this time has passed because we live in a world of niche audiences, which is ideal for pool to grow. There's a solid audience out there that has unprecedented access to the game via youtube. Pool by and large doesn't have a good image - lot's of stereotypes - mostly because they're TRUE. To me the most exciting part of pool is the gamble and the characters. Do you embrace your audience and cater to them or reject them?

Joe Rogan maybe could help professional pool players get a slot in the olympics. If Curling is there, why not professional pool? Since there are many players now from all corners of the globe participating, it should be placed on the table.

There's such a thing as being a good sport, respecting the game, bathing regularly. Any other complaints and maybe they should play snooker instead. Pool is a game of the people, and people in general are a mixed bag.

There are hundreds of worthy stories in pool that will never be told to the wider audience. I'd love to see something historical about black billiards/pool players when they broke through segregation. That's one hell of a hero story there.

Or young Earl, CJ, Efren, etc etc hustling around the country. Pool can and does encompass the entire human condition, both good and bad. It's kind of pathetic that we only have maybe 3 good pool movies.

Joe Rogan is an asshole. His statements on Covid-19 have proven that. Just what pool needs is another asshole.

This is the problem with most “open discussions” about any topic.

You do know that Joe just asks questions to his guests about why and what reasons they believe certain things to be true or not.

Rogan has an ability to just interview his guest without having an agenda or “view”. He just wants to talk things through and get facts and opinions that are related to the facts without demonizing the person on his show.

That’s why he is successful!! He has an open ended discussion on a HUGE amount of different topics.

We should stay on topic about POOL and not derail this thread into a political rant that belongs in NPR.

I understand people get emotional about certain things related to certain people but just like Rogans podcasts…. Let’s please stay on topic.

Respectfully 🙏
