Could Joe Rogan help with pool?

Joe is NOT the next best shot at pool, he is the epitome of the current pool player, and it seems this thread is about improving pool - more of the same isn’t going to work.

I would write the explanation of insanity but I’m sure we all know what it is.
I think you have it half right. I think Joe could actually be a substantial [short term] help to pool if he started promoting it all the time. Would the stands all suddenly be packed, and a hundred thousand concurrent viewers on every live stream? I kind of doubt it, but I do think he is one of the few who could have some fairly substantial pull. The problem, at least as far as professional/spectator pool goes, is that it wouldn't keep their interest. The product just hasn't ever been remotely close to good enough to have much appeal, even to serious pool players, much less to anybody else. So in a sense it doesn't much matter if Joe could bring people to the dance if most wouldn't stay for very long anyway.

Fortunately a couple of promoters, while not doing nearly enough in this respect in my opinion, are finally willing to start doing a few things differently to see if it ends up being more appealing to the masses. While it is only baby steps, the willingness for a couple of promoters to even try anything new or different at all is a new step that they should be applauded for, and perhaps it pays some dividends in time. There's no guarantees but it certainly has a way better chance of working than doing the same ole things that everybody else has been doing for decades that has been proven not to work.

I saw the Paul Stamets & Fantastic fungi link earlier.

Don’t underestimate the power of mushrooms. Especially psychedelic types... and especially for you Mr Bishop. A 5g trip may be just what the doctor ordered. It clears the BS and let’s you see the truth of everything around you.

As far as Joe rogan losing any “clout” or whatever over this whole thing...not a chance. Not even half an iota - except maybe for a few people who were mad that he apologized.

The dude said a word in a descriptive way, not used it in some hateful way, someone then made an out of context compilation years later - therefore basically using the words themselves in a much nastier way - and it had nothing to do with the word, or the radical’s favorite group of victims, or protecting anyone or anything.

It was a preemptive strike in preparation for elections because the rogan is a rouge element in the system. And I think it will backfire. Expect more attacks soon because now that they started, if they don’t win, and they just piss him off, a very small leaning one way with the type of guests he has on his show as an F U is all it will take.

It’s a pretty intense situation actually. This is the first time in modern history that tons of people are exposed to “unsanctioned” content and the corrupt and controlling are falling apart and lashing out. A crazy time to be alove and running racks

I have no issues with shrooms. I indulge every now and then.

I also don’t feel Joe’s lost any clout.

You people seem hellbent on trying to use Joe to be your new anti liberal anti establishment voice. You’re just as bad as the people wanting to use him as political tool by canceling him.

You can tell right away that those people don’t know and don’t listen to him. He’s never been that guy and never will be.

You remember when you were growing up, and there was that guy in your town that was widely mocked for being the 'village idiot'? Some people have noted that the Internet's biggest feature is that it allows every town's village idiot to connect with other village idiots, forming an international cluster of village idiots.

Take any subject you're familiar with, and it takes no time to find whole communities of online warriors who believe something that you know is false and ridiculous. JFK Jr. is actually alive (check), Elvis is actually a Sasquatch (check), politicians are actually aliens from another galaxy (check),

And now, as the different platforms spread out, it becomes easier and easier Set up some fake email addresses, get some Facebook pages, Instagram, Twitter etc., and you can start spreading rumours about people you don't like, and there's not a lot they can do about it. And there are companies that accept payment for doing it.

Fwiw, my fav interview of Joe's was his one with Rob Lowe.

I know, I know...but it was good. I listened to the whole thing for some reason.

Those that tune in and soak up the poison.
It is pretty remarkable. My Youtube 'recommended' a video where some person 'reacts' to various musicians performing. I laughed when i saw his 'reaction to first time listening to Roy Orbison'. I wondered why anyone would pay any attention to his reaction if he truly had never listened to Roy Orbison before. Where has he been? I mentioned it to a friend at work, and she immediately said she loved those 'reaction' videos.

Remarkable.

The other day i saw 'Stunt Men react to Jackie Chan', followed by 'Martial Artists react to Jackie Chan', and "Parkour expert reacts to Jackie Chan'.

I don't watch his program but he is a drug addict and promotes the use. I suspect his apology for saying stupid stuff is a direct result of him being messed up on drugs most of the time.

If that's the image pool wants then he would help the image of pool.

lol

And he's in trouble because???.....because he WON'T promote a drug.

The world has gone nuts.

How do you know he’s a drug addict? What drug(s) is he addicted to?

These are rhetorical questions I suppose.

If you think marijuana is an addictive, or even harmful drug, I guess that’s your opinion. But as an expert on the subject I can tell you it’s neither of those things.

He talks about DMT on occasion and his experiences with it. That’s another one that isn’t addictive, or dangerous to most people. But is extremely beneficial to a majority of the people who use it.

Ibuprofen is a drug, Wellbutrin is a drug, adrenaline is a drug, our entire life experience is regulated by drugs and chemables (thanks Norbert). There’s nothing wrong with tweaking the mix on occasion.

getting back to the OP's question, there are Youtube videos with Joe Rogan talking pool.

His most popular one is where he interviews Earl Strickland. 48000 views in 10 years. Not a lot of interest. There are street musicians who get 5 million views in one day.

Maybe instead of Joe Rogan, you should look at some of the 'influencers' who have bigger online presence?

Joe gets 11 million views on each show. Cnn gets 1/2 million.

just sayin'

Not my opinion. He is addicted. I'm just giving the facts.

If that's the image pool wants then by all means hire Joe Rogan. New rule - you have to fail a drug test in order to play in a tournament.

Joe Rogan is a drug addict. He smokes the stuff on his program and is in trouble for saying stupid stuff on his program. The two are connected.

Not rocket science. Very simple to comprehend.

Yeah, Rogan gets four times the number of viewers of Tucker Carlson.

But if Joe talks about the great value of pool, how many of those viewers will go and play pool? How many will take it up as a sport, and how many might just continue to bang balls around the bar box at the local tavern. Pool takes an investment of time, and most casual players aren't interested.

'Influencers' may get views but it doesn't seem to translate into anything.

Pool has to be fun to get people to be interested in it. And pool is arguably not a great spectator sport. Most league players don't sit around and watch other players, and most aren't really interested in tournaments.

To get the serious players that will help it grow, maybe it comes down to what Europe is doing. Kids leagues, school programs, and the other organizational models that are used.

It is interesting to see the crowds of spectators for snooker events. Someone said that top players in the UK are often hosting challenges and exhibitions at local clubs. Whatever they're doing to build that spectator base??

Let me know when the govt solves the drug problems.

Are they still promoting "reefer madness" in the US?

I do not agree with the often repeated cliche' that pool is not a spectator sport.

Why does Joe watch it so much, as he says, then? He spectates. I spectate. Many others do, too.

Saying folks don't/won't watch it isn't helping the sport. Look at how Matchroom is bypassing that outdated paradigm and succeeding at showing us pool. It takes what most pool players seem to abhor: marketing, marketing, marketing.

Yep, getting the kids playing is the nuts. I'm thinking temporary pool table stores in the malls that are transitioning to playplaces not shopping centers, might allow skools to have afternoon leagues there, as one part of their marketing.

fwiw,
