Could SVB be the G.O.A.T. ???

I agree with this, except you can also add 8-ball to Shane's column.

He's no slouch at banks and 1-pocket either. World class? Not as of now, but then he doesn't focus on these two principles as much as others do. Unless we're talking gambling, the rotation games are where the most consistent money comes from, which is why he (and many others) focus mostly on that.

That could be debatable as well. Efren earlier this year won The Break Room 8 Ball Classic at 63 years old. Shane, Alex and lots of big name pros were in the field. It is really sick how well Efren still plays in his 60s.

I don't know if Shane could beat Efren now in 8 ball with some rule sets. There is a huge difference between take what you make and open after the break. Shane's break wouldn't play as large of a role in take what you make. I believe that should be the rule set used for pros playing bar table 8 ball.

I believe that Shane has a standing invite for a long race of 8-ball versus anyone in the world for 50k. I'm not sure if "take what you make" is in the rule-set, but I think that I would still vote for Shane.

EDIT: The game might also be bar table 8-ball, if I'm remembering right.

Any race over 15 would favor Shane significantly. Shane would be favored no matter what but the effects of age would show the longer the race would go. If it is winner break rather than alternating then Shane would be hugely favored in 8 ball Vs anybody ever.

Of course you like Shane in a long race. Efren is over 60 and Shane is in his 30s. My point is Efren can still hang with those guys at his age. Who knows how good Efren's bar table 8 ball game was 25 years ago.

Who knows if Shane will still be playing the same speed in 25 years. We can only speculate if Shane will have that kind of longevity whereas we know for a fact how well Efren has played over the span of his career.

I'm not trying to kick Efren of the pedestal, as he is arguably the greatest all-around player to play the game. But what does Shane need to do to take his place?

a) Win a 14.1 continuous tournament, or run 300+ in 14.1.
b) ???

I think Shane is world-class at one pocket....
...I’m not so sure I can up with ten guys that could beat him for the dough.

Seems like there are very few 14.1 tournaments these days

Yes, and there were really not that many 14.1 tournaments in the days of Lassiter and Sigel either. Yet, they each won several. That's why it's not that easy to be the greatest of all times. You don't just do it with short games.

All the best,

I can understand Americans desperation. No Americans can play better pool than their own SVB. They try to make him GOAT. He is not even close! He is good but not good enough to win world championship. He can only win in US soil. Sorry. He even has a bad record in Mosconi.
Remember what a Filipino coach said when they saw SVB played in Manila? He can't win anything in Manila. He will just be beaten badly. So I guess that's also around ASIA.
You know why Filipinos are so good? Because they play Rotation! 11 balls to pocket with 4 obstacle balls. Not 9 or 10 but 11 Balls! In Rotation you play all pool discipline, one pocket, three cushion, banks, carom, snooker. Now you know why Reyes won in every pool discipline. Even at the time SVB retires he will never be like Reyes.

Shane won’t be the best ever till he starts beating the top players in 1P. Efren has beaten the top players in almost every game.

Wrong again. No straight pool for you. That's what it takes...

Just FYI, there are only a few guys that will play Shane even Ten Ball in the Philippines and only one (Efren) who will play him One Pocket or Banks (Francisco maybe in Banks). Shane has pretty much robbed all comers in the PI (beat Alcano something like seven times in a row). I can only think of Dennis and DeLuna who will play him now. Lee Vann, Chua, Bustie, Ignazio, Gomez, Dudong, Warren and any other Tier One players have no interest in tangling with Shane. He is highly respected over there. Just thought you'd like to know that.

I started to post a LOL reply to Parvus until I saw this post, I couldn't have stated anything close to as accurate or good as this post.

I thought Alex P. was considered the greatest all around player. Is that not a thing anymore?

Dennis is considered the superior one pocket player as compared with Shane, correct? I know Alex is technically Canadian, but he would have to be favored as well.

Where does Biado rank in the pecking order of Filipino players? When I watched him play in the past I thought nobody was better in the Philippines except for Dennis. I haven’t seen Biado play in quite some time though

Yes, for good reason. SVB's collective record in our database against Orcullo, Biado, Aranas, Pagulayan, Corteza, Chua, Kiamco, Ignacio, and Bustamante is

847 to 652
