Could this possibly be real?

I dunno, but it looks more like a Brunswick Hoppe to me. Of course Herman Rambow worked for Brunswick for many years. I never saw a Rambow with a bumper like that. Somebody more knowledgeable than me will post. Tate might know.

I'm no expert, by any means, but it doesn't look like any Rambow I've ever seen. I agree with Scott about the bumper but the points don't look right to me, either. Also, I've never seen one that didn't have a brass joint. It says in the Blue Book his cues were standard with brass joint. Doesn't mean he didn't make any with steel joints but again, I've never seen one.

Except for the bumper which someone added, this cue looks just like the Rambow Boston Joey stole from me in the early 70's.

The rounded butt cap was one of his signatures. Palmer even made a Rambow model in the first or second catalogue with this butt cap.

Hi Paul,

It's hard to say. I'm leaning toward this actually being a Rambow.

The Palmer C (2nd catalog) had a longer buttcap and the wrap channel was lower on the points and the hardware on this cue is all wrong for a Palmer.

The joint on this cue looks more like a Rambow. It's either a Rambow or a copy of a Rambow.

Here's a pic of my Rambow (upper cue) next to a Palmer Model C.

Chris

(edited to say, on closer inspection, the non brass joint does make me wonder)

It's not signed as he was doing in the early '60's. Mine had my name and "Made by Rambow" written in script and the shafts had my initials near the joint. $50 with two shafts, circa 1964.

That's what I thought too. No signture, with the price what is it, made me think Not a Rambow.

Jon

I also think that this is a Rambow. Someone just stuck a rubber butt cap on it.

See you soon

I had that Palmer! First "good" cue I ever owned.

It's actually one of my favorite cues too.

Palmer stated making them just after Herman Rambow passed away, not technically as a tribute, but because customers requested a simple design similar to Rambow's. The even called it "Rambow Style" in theri brochure.

I agree about the non-brass joint. This would be my concern on this cue.

In his description.
Only flaw is tarnish on the brass fitting.

It does look like a SS joint but you can see a little discoloration on the joint at the bottom near the collar.

Pictures can be deceiving at times, but still it looks like shiny SS.

He says "fitting" in the description that has tarnish. I assume he means the joint collar in this case. He's definately not a cue guy as he measures the cue in feet and inches.

It's true that a highly polished brass joint can appear to be silver in color, especially in photos. This cue needs to be examined.

Tate ,
You're in Burbank . This cue is in Redondo Beach . Might be worth the 30 mile drive to examine this !
Just sayin .
