Could Willie make the team?

It’s the same as people saying Jim Brown couldn’t play in todays NFL. Like he couldn’t play for the Giants or Commanders or anybody else.Stupid
Of course he could. He's 86 now, so he might not average over 100 yards per game and over 5 yards per carry like he did in his prime, but he could certainly still make it in today's NFL!

Yeah, Jim was amazing….#32……he always got up from the ground after being tackled,
even if he was speared by Huff, Nitschke, Ditka or the front four of the Cowboys or Rams,
the same way….slow. He said he did it the same way so they’d never know if they hurt him.
What about O.J……they said he can still cut and slice…..and maybe play some football too?

I guess you didn't watch the video. The route choices was not optimal
I did watch that video before, along with all the other Mosconi videos available, many years back. I'm not going to rewatch an 1.5 hr show again just to find some patterns you and he would have played differently:)

I typed more but it is simple really. Willie could not only make the team, he could be the team! I would bet Willie against any five from today.

Hu
Willie never played fast cloth or layered tips or jump cues.

Its 20th century player vs 21st century player. In other areas the future always wins.

The weakest players on tour has more ability than willie.

Wille Mosconi was over 30 years retired and probably pushing 75 yrs old in that video. Not a great comparison. Nothing but an ESPN expo for retired legends.
No. This match was in early 1978. Mosconi was 64 and Fats 65 (Fats was about 5 months older than Willie). But, yes, they were both well beyond their prime.

So what. todays players never played on Willie`s equipment. Willie`s pool IQ was off the charts, he would easily adapt

We're assumuing this is the time machine version, where Mosconi drops in and has no time to "get used" to current conditions. He wouldn't be good enough to make it on the European side, but for the American side, isn't the only tactical question whether you take a prime Mosconi over 61 year old Earl Strickland?

In the early Mosconi cup days Europe would throw out some snooker players due to lack of dedicated world class 9-ball players, and the US is now in that same position of lacking world class talent in 9-ball. The exception is Europe in the early days did have a boatload of an alternate cue-sports talent (snooker) that they can plug holes with.

In this alternate universe with a prime Mosconi, I think current USA takes a chance on him and plugs a hole for the same reason you see Ronnie O'Sullivan playing in early Mosconi cups. If your best 5 9-ball players are underdogs to your opponents best 5 (Given Shane is now a Fargo underdog to Filler), you're absolutely taking a flyer on a god of another cue format.

No doubt in my mind if he was " here" in his prime, this day and age. But just brought him back I'm sure he'd have something to say about them pockets lol. He also could deal with the all the "Heckling" with no issue, he had to deal with Fats plenty of times...

The brain still works.

Mosconi in his prime has the talent to play with the modern players, But he's missing things that modern players have in their bag. He doesn't have a jump shot nor these four rail draw shots made famous by players like Effren. It's been 40 years since that video and route selection has evolved.
I don’t believe that a guy who could casually run 100 balls on demand couldnt draw the ball better than me. As to the jump shot, the only thing that would keep a top tier player from picking up that skill is stubbornness.

That might be the dumbest thing you have ever posted, and that's saying a lot.
Your pool knowledge is dismal at best.
How many jump shots did Willie make in a tournament for his career?
Its a statistical fact. Local bangers make more jump shots in a night, then his career.
