Could You Play For 10 K?

I had been playing $50 sets as a normal race to seven before I met Gene, now I barely play for less than $100 a set anymore, and I have been getting staked for 1000 a set recently, I don't believe I play any differently for $10 than I do for one thousand, and I don't think I'd play differently for ten to a hundred thousand now that I know what its like.

I have not played for that amount but if I had the cash sure I could do it. The money has never bugged me because if you are betting it then you are willing to lose it. The way I see it is if you are going to get upset if you lose then you do not need to be gambling.

Your arm would lock up if you put up 1k of your own money. Anything over 100 you want someone to stake you even if you think you have the best of it.

I got more heart and gamble in my pinky finger than you have in your entire soul.

I MIGHT play better for that kind of money than I usually do,for a simple reason.

I prefer to think that the emotional charge that would come from having enough money that I could afford to bet that high could be the kind of thing that pushes me over the top.

Balls have never been the problem. Tommy D.

As long as it was a long session and not just a short race. I have played a few $2000 sets. Never even thought about the money. Played a few ahead sets of one hole at $550 a game. Funny thing I get more nervous at league from not wanting to let my teammates down.

I agree with this. The times I have been MOST nervous have been in team play, both in Germany and in the USA. When my team got 17th in the world out of 800 teams I was nervous every game and every ball with five teammates and six opponents sweating me.

And the other times have been when playing on other people's money. I hate getting staked. I just don't like carrying other people's money into battle. When it's my own money then I am free because the money is mine to do with as I please I know how I earned it and I know it's not a problem to earn more. But when it's someone else's money it weighs on me a lot that they invested in me. Same thing applies in business for me. If I have partners or someone invests in my business then I feel much more pressure and obligation.

That's why today I have no partners and no investors. I have turned down both and so I am free to make my own decisions each moment without letting any backer down.

All depends on that that 10k means to me. If I was a multi-millionaire, I dont think I would sweat it much.

I got some great advice from "not to be named" bonafide CHAMPIONS - which was simply DO NOT THINK ABOUT THE MONEY. Be it five dollars or $50,000 don't sweat the money.

Obviously it's much easier to do that IF the amount is ultimately meaningless to your bankroll. But the sentiment is basically that you're in the game, the bet is settled, the money is posted so forget about it and focus on the game itself.

Ok fine the champions were Danny Diliberto, Rafael Martinez, and James Walden. I don't have a secret training camp where I flew in the world's elite to train me...... I get my training by jumping in the box against tough action.

Because one way you learn to play for $10,000 is to play for $10,000. Not up to that level yet but $450 a game for 18 hours was a pretty good session to get me seasoned to high dollar one hole. I won that session and ended up $1300 winner.

Exactly. That was my point earlier when I mentioned bankroll management. A skill, I'm afraid, a lot of pool players lack.

While it does happen, you don't often see a poker player put up half his roll to play a tournament or jump in a cash game. It happens a lot in the pool world. It seems pool players are always in a rush for a big score.

It's pretty simple. If you get into more games where you're 50/50 or better and manage your roll accordingly, you'll find that you will have a much better chance at never going bust.

You have no idea. Either my nose is wide open or I know something....

We all know something or other, like you mentioning here in St. Louis how you were going to wear a particular T-Shirt to try and shark me during our match, or how you were lied to about how I play some guys.

Everybody know sumthin' ;-)

Lou I have made all that public. I don't care what others said to me about how you play them.

The idea of wearing a Cue and Cushion shirt to mess with your head is just funny to me. And it's particularly funny because you are the most sensitive prima-donna I have ever seen. I mean I am pretty thin skinned on the forum but you are 1000x worse in real life.

How could you get barred from Cue and Cushion? Such a wonderful room with a ton of history and lots of daily action. You got barred because of your smug and pompous attitude AND finally your bad review of the place. I mean they MOVED four tables around just for you. JUST FOR YOU. Because you wanted to have your favorite table in the spot that you thought it would be best for you they rearranged the pool room.

So honestly, the deal is even if I didn't know all that now, didn't get all the "Lou is Lou" stories, I would still feel good about playing you just like I have felt good about matching up with you at ANY time during the past ten years. I have never backed down from you and unless you administer a clear beating I never will.

One thing I know for certain. IF you win and I want to play again you will say no. So this is one shot for me to get in your pocket and I intend to make it hurt you. When you get to the match buddy boy your prima donna BS won't work on me. You're in a dogfight pal and I predict you don't have the stones to fade it.

If you think I am so stupid as to rely on people's stories of how you play this guy and that guy then you had better forfeit now. And I am not so stupid as to bear down in front of people I don't know on your table that you play on every day.

The fact is though that you are reviled in St. Louis. No one was lying to me about that. "Lou is Lou" is about the BEST thing that anyone can say about you.

The difference between me and you Lou is that I don't run with my tail between my legs. My only regret at this point is not making you post the whole ten thousand. Now you still have an out to only be charged $3000 for all your arrogance and bullying. I hope you really do have the stones to show up because then we will get to see if you really are stealing from the case maker or if you are really just the wannabe who donates to better players a couple times a year on your charity trips to big events.

As for the money.....well MAYBE you can fade playing for this amount and MAYBE you can fade being staked for this amount......but since you are widely known as NOT EVEN a $25 player who can't get in any game without causing controversy - then it remains to be seen if you can hold your game together and play your best - whatever that might be.

I personally don't think you can knowing how sensitive you are. But I am prepared for you to come out like Efren and if so then I will take my licks and that's that. But if you don't.......well........imagine the consequences of letting me win.

JB- If you steal my t shirt move, which I have patented, I will call my team of attorneys in both the US and China and sue you til you couldn't afford to make those leather coin holders people keep in their pockets.

Sorry but I have to honor my sponsor and wear clothing that prominently shows their logo.

If the extra benefit is that it reminds Lou of the great old pool room that he is barred for life from then that's just and extra bonus.

I would never steal your brilliant idea of wearing a t-shirt that shows Lou the amount he is playing for. Now if you made a case on the other hand.......

:-)

One of the best moves I ever saw was Reed Pierce playing Joe Woolford. Joe rarely ever lost, if ever, when he was playing regularly. Him and Reed are playing a big ahead set. Joe calls me over and asks me to go play the jukebox and gives me $20 to put in it. I am in "Joes's Corner", pulling for him to win. I ask Joe what kind of music does he want to hear and Reed shouts out 'anything but country'. So I proceed to play 40 country songs with the $20......and Reed is running out, singing every word to every song. It was the perfect bait and switch by Reed.

$10K is well above my comfort level.

But if I was playing for big money, I would play extra conservative, which is probably not a winning formula............

The match is scheduled to start at 4pm. We will be coming off the Super Billiards Expo and will surely have plenty of cases left over and we might set up a little display but for obvious reasons I won't really want to be talking cases on that day for direct sales. Looking into the camera I might have a few "ads" here and there. I will have a couple people with me to help handle sales though.

Lou agreed to bet $500 more per game so if he is able to beat me I might need to sell about a case an hour ;-)

It would be great to have you there. A full house to watch two bangers go at it for 10k+ would be a lot of fun I think. Pros are boring, they just run out and play perfect all the time :-)

This will be more fun to see who gets the high speed wobbles.
