Counterfeit tables (and a contest)

It appears that there is little new in the billiard world when it comes to counterfeit equipment. Here is an item from a few years ago.

I have a free hardbound copy of "The Bank Shot and Other Great Robberies" by Minnesota Fats and Tom Fox for the person who comes up with the year this item appeared.
 
One obvious hint is the stuff about Maurice Vignaux that I left in on the right side. Anyone who knows Willie Hoppe's story will know when Vignaux would not have been challenging anyone. Also, those who know a little about Brunswick -- maybe there is something about their history on their website -- would have some idea of when they absorbed Collender and became Brunswick-Balke-Collender and Co.

That's only a few blocks away from Blatt Billiards. I wonder if the two were in business at the same time.
 
I'm going with 1876.
But I have an excellent copy of that book, Bob.....
