did he lie before?

i see both sides of this argument.
maybe kevin over stepped abit but do we know he lied for sure?
has he been caught in lies before here on az?this is truly a question because if he has i'm unaware.

so many scenarios could be at play here.
maybe kevin is making it all up.maybe he is embelishing a bit.or maybe he is telling the truth.could be that kristi was just being overly polite never thinking that kevin would mention it in a public forum.maybe she said it and meant every word but now fears her comments could upset her current sponsor and needed to show that you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

trouble is we don't know.

I guess it does depend on what "is" means. However when a man claims to be exactly quoting himself and isn't, I am a bit skeptical when he quotes others. Read these cut and pastes from his first two posts.

Varney 1
"Pm me with your real name & city, if you'd like, and I'll pass your thoughts on to her. I do all her cue work now."

Varney 2
"I call it like I see it & I tell it exactly like it is, so I'll continue to do so now.
If exploiting my work, means telling who I do work for...then yes I do that. But don't call me a liar. I never "painted
any pictures about a supposed relationship" between you & I. I stated, and I quote..."that I do your cue work now"."


Notice that the "all" disappears in the quote. That isn't telling it exactly how it is. A few more generations of changing the original statement just that slightly each time and while some will say the meaning didn't change from one statement to the next, the last statement will in no way resemble the first. Doing some work for her and doing all of her work is a long ways apart regardless. Looking at this from the outside, it seems that KV embellished things a little at a bare minimum, maybe a lot. He definitely was caught talking out of school!

We are not likely to ever know if Kristi made polite noises about KV's personal stick in private or not. I never hammer somebody's toy when I try it regardless of my real opinion. We do know that she doesn't endorse the stick or the man in public. Always best to have specific permission when using someone else's name or you risk embarrassment.

i have no affiliation or friendship with either kevin or kristi, but to me she comes off worse here. way i see it is, absolute worst thing kevin has done is talk up the degree of friendship between them. which, let's face it, we all have! i've spoken a couple of words to a famous person once and i'll be honest, when telling people about it those couple of words became a five minute chat... lol

maybe havoc has hit the nail on the head with his theory. either way though, kevin had nothing but compliments and nice things to say about her in the initial post, even her mom! - as i said the worst case scenario is that he maybe exaggerated how much he's spoken with her. and for me that doesn't justify the extremely nasty attack on kevin. Kristi i assume is not an idiot, she must have known the effect her posting what she did would have, what with her being the well known player of discussion.

is there anything more hurtful and nasty she could have done really than posting what she did? i don't think so. if what havoc suggested is the case and she did it through sponsorship reasons, she could have done it a lot more politely.

everyone's slagging off kevin, yet the most cold, calculated, nasty thing here was done by kristi.
 
Are all of you people siding with Kristi on this just because she is good looking or something? I don't get it.

Varney does make a great cue, period. If you want proof, go check the dozens of posts from people who bought cues from him. All of them were extremely happy. That tells you something about the quality of his cues. I don't know Varney and have never met him, and I've never played with his cues. But I'll take dozens of peoples words for it, especially when a bunch of them are known and respected forum members.

Varney's post about Kristi was a compliment. He said nothing but nice things about her. Even if he did slightly exaggerate about how she felt about his cue, I don't think she was right to make such a nasty post. I mean, Varney was telling the world how highly he thinks of her. He added a little plug for his cues, so what. All of a sudden she attacks him and tries to destroy his credibility? That's a horrible thing to do. Some of you say that you won't buy a Varney now, hell....if I had the money I'd get one in a heartbeat. And he doesn't come across as a jerk on this forum, he seems like a good guy.

I really don't understand why Kristi went off on him like that, and why everyone is siding with her.

Those that don't get it have never been on either side of the sponsorship equation. Many people are only able to compete in the sports they love because of endorsements and sponsorship arrangements. Often when damaging the relationship between them and the people that support them you are endangering their very livelihood. Imagine that comments like KV's could well cost you a job or career as hard as sponsors are to come by and you begin to understand the gravity of the matter.

I don't have to know anything before KT's first post in this thread and KC's reply to know that he made unauthorized claims. Had it been otherwise I am sure he would have so stated in his first reply.

I also don't know either party but imagine that your bit of overstatement to enhance your image and business runs a real risk of burning mine to the ground. Every less than accurate statement or unauthorized claim made by anyone endangers relationships I have spent years developing. Welcome to the world of endorsements.

One of the things I am grateful for in my life is that I am very unlikely to ever have to chase sponsorship funds again. Intelligent people that do need endorsement funds and sponsorships spend their life walking on eggs, as I did for years.

Why, because she called BS?
If someone were fabricating or expounding on something about you and they weren't true wouldn't you be a tad upset. Why is that Varney can come on here and tout his cues and who he does work for yet, when one of these very people come on here and tell it straight with no agenda, it's considered nasty? And if you tell me she has an agenda, tell me what it is because all I see is someone upset over exaggerations and falsehoods.
One other thing to think about and I don't know whether this is true or not, but it's not a far stretch to think that Kristi and Allison have discussed this considering they are friends. These are the things that went through my head when reading this and is one of the reasons why I tend to believe Ms. Carter.
I guess in the end it really doesn't matter but I don't see what she did as nasty, just calling it how she sees it. Not to mention, EVERYONE here, including me, is basing their information on second hand knowledge. She is NOT, she is basing it on first hand knowledge.

see it. I don't want to get involved in this argument, since I don't personally know either party. After reading through a few pages though I might have to side with the Varninski. I think it is silly that KC comes on this messageboard and attempts to act like she is Judge Hatchet, or one of the other power obsessed daytime courtroom female judges.

IMO, this is the exact reason not to pounce so hard on Kevin. We can listen to them and believe who we want to believe, but once you start criticizing him and rubbing it in, you're doing that based on second hand knowledge. I think that if one wants to go there, one needs to be really careful with wording at that point. However, there have been several posts that have gone there that have been completely filled with venom.

I'm sorry, but no one has proved that Kevin is a liar, and yes, I read all of Kevin's and Kristy's posts.

Is it possible that there is an agenda behind her post? Sure, Havoc pointed out some possible scenarios.

If she did compliment his cue, I agree, he should make sure its OK to make that compliment public before doing so. On the other hand, if someone is to make a compliment that they don't want known, they should explicitly clarify that their comment is "off the record". Hindsight is 20/20, but the best thing Kristy could have done after reading his post would be to call him up on the phone, or PM, and tell him to edit out the comments about the cue from his post, which would have mitigated the damages, IMO. No one had quoted him at that point, and probably relatively few people had read it.

Lets just assume that they both have learned from this, and let them both be. I think people have gone way overboard pouring salt in Kevin's wounds. Its not good to kick someone when they're down. If I'm not mistaken, some have flat out stated that he's an unethical liar. I see no proof of this.

Its not like he put up her comments as a quote on his website. She was the topic of conversation, and he added to the conversation, possibly not realizing that what he was saying might not be OK with her. You can see from his post that he had nothing but nice things to say about her, and also added something that he claims was a nice thing that she said about his work.

You can believe what you want to believe, but in my mind, no one has proved that Kevin is unethical or a liar based on this thread. I do sympathize with Kristy, because at the minimum, she didn't want those comments posted, and worst case, she was the victim of a fabricated tale. However, we don't know for sure which one it was. (On the upside for Kristy, she just may have the highest rep/post ratio on AzB now! :p)

On the other hand, I think Kevin deserves a little credit here. For one, I don't think he deserved such a thrashing from KC. Aside from that, who wouldn't have been tempted to fire back after getting toasted like that? He did bite his tongue and simply defended himself, and then backed out of this thread. People are still trying to hurl rocks at him, but I commend him for ignoring it and just letting it pass.

Anyway, I'm perfectly fine walking away with this believing that (a) Kevin is not a liar, and (b) Kristy loves Mike Lambros cues more than any other cue.

You think it is silly? That someone would get angry that her name was being plastered on the Internet associated with a product that she doesn't endorse?
Your Judge metaphor is absurd. She wasn't 'Judging' anyone, she merely straightened out some misinformation about HERSELF!! I think that is a topic she is more than qualified to talk about.

People claiming they're reading this objectively and siding with Varney is having me LOL, as if him and Kristi are having a debate on cues.

I don't think Kristi's post had anything to do with sponsorships, and everything to do with dispelling a myth, one that Varney uses to pump up his inflated business ego on AZ since he joined the forum. I also read it like Koop, ie she's not just speaking for herself when she said, "This isn’t the first time you’ve crossed the line." She's reacting to a string of truth-stretching and exagerrated innuendos, not just in this thread alone.

like i tried to say in my original post, it's not just a case of her calling BS and that is that. what she did was an extremely nasty and cruel thing. she's just come on out of the blue and ultimately tried to destroy the man's repuation, slag him off and humiliate him in public, all while knowing full well how effective it would be because it's coming from her, such is the nature of the situation. and all for what? worst case scenario is Kevin exaggerated the length of the conversations they've had, and exaggerated her compliments about his personal cue. all while calling her a splendid human being and even complimenting her mom! I'm sorry but what is so evil here to justify the extreme retaliation by her in trying to publicly humiliate the man?

i'm sorry for saying this and i'll probably get a bit of stick for doing so, but to me it just comes across as everybody jumping on the anti-varney bandwagon for the sake of it, and everybody sucking up to the pro player who's posted on the forum, who also happens to be a very attractive woman which furthers the sucking up. she comes across as *****y.

For the record...this is in referance to a long time ago when I made the mistake of telling this forum of two players who used 314's on their sponsor's cues. At the time I did not realize that was such secretive info as they had the 314 logo clearly displayed on their shafts for all to see. At least in that instance they were kind enough to only call me on the telephone and cuss me a bit...not try to hurt my business in public.

Whoa horsey.. I think from the other side what KV did was the same or worse. He ranted about Kristi saying that he made the best hitting cue. Don't you think that her sponsor might have something to say about that?
Don't you think that might ruin her relationship with that cuemaker / sponsor? I think she fired back appropriately and justly. IMHO anyways.

To be honest here, at VF I know some better players and invited them to hit balls with some of our cues. Some had some great things to say about cues that didn't "pay" their bills. I would do everyone a disservice by saying hey buy this cue.. so and so said it hit better than any cue he ever played with.. it wouldn't be right to the player or his sponsor.

I'm not taking sides here but the question keeps popping into my mind. Does she even have sponsors? And if so why?
