Most of this thread has described Varney as an unwelcome self-promoter. Well, he's not unwelcome to me. I've learned things on AZB from reading Varney's posts and I'm glad he contributes. I don't recall learning anything from Kristi's posts, not that that's required (no one has learned anything from mine either). All that's required on this board, in my mind, is civility.
If Varney believes he makes a superior hitting cue and wants to tell the world, that's fine by me. A craftsman should be proud of his work. I agree with others that he hinted at things in his response that he shouldn't have, but he was ambushed in really harsh way by someone he was praising and considered a friend, or at least friendly. I don't condone but I can understand.

Seriously I haven't followed the thread and have no clue how it turned out, but I decided that I really didn't want to get involved in the whole ordeal. I've been approached about doing something with the cue and turned it down. I think it was a no win situation for me and who knows it just could have gotten me banned around here LOL.

Varney initially answered this thread surely to advance his business. I will add though, he did it in a VERY complimentary way towards Kristi. HE probably did stretch the truth by adding the one word "all" in the context that he was doing all of her cue work. I see that as his biggest mistake. But i don't see this post as some agregious act that has warranted this public villification.
Kristy on the other hand responded (after being tipped off about the thread) in a very aggressive and "viscious" way. She clearly stated her agenda when she said she wasn't here to comment on his work, but to "pour water on his arrogance". She went on to state in a dismissive way that he only changed a couple of tips for her. Well, I question HER CREDIBILITY about that statement. In Varneys next reply, after being called out, he went on to explain the work he did for her, and it seemed like a WHOLE LOT MORE THAN CHANGING 2 tips.
I am not sure if all of you folks know how cue sponsorships work, but I let you in on how it typically does. (keep in mind, this is the general rule, not every deal works like this). Players will receive a free cue, shafts, and repair work, all for no charge, in exchange for wearing a patch or some sort of "signage" by the company or cue maker. The players are also usually announced at events as being sponsored by the cuemaker. That it folks. That is USUALLY the extent of it. Usually there is no money given to the player from the cuemaker. So to clarify, there isn't a whole lot at stake here. Cuemakers are by no means supporting players monetarily through sponsorship. As an example, one of the best amle players in the world is sponsored by a HUGE cue company, and you would be SHOCKED at how little the player actually makes monetarily annually. I can tell you that it doesn't put the player over the national POVERTY LINE.
Now we don't even know if kristi is sponsored by Lambros. She isn't a ranked player, in fact in todays pool world, i'd say she isvirtually unknown. I do suspect though that she has received a free cue (one of the previous posters comments imo wasn't that far off base) from him and is the reason she has so vehemently responded in this thread. Afterall, it would be her obligation to him to endorse his product as being the best. Afterall, i suspect she is grateful that any cuemaker acknowleges her by agreeing to "sponsor" her. I don't see her bringing that much to the table given the lack of any national exposure at this time.
I beleive the truth lies somewhere between what varney and kristi have written. I don't doubt for a minute that varney has done a LOT of work for her. I also suspect that he has NEVER charged her. All this for the opportunity to get closer to the players that really mater. In lieu of receiving this work gratis, I suspect that she did in fact make statements to him about how good his cue hit. Now of course, she never in a million years dreamed that those private comments would find themselves on a public pool forum, and her only way of "correcting" her own misguided statements would be to trash varney in the most emasculating way possible, by attacking him personally.
I also find it sad that the same core of posters that were so negative towards him in the past, are the first in line here to try and rub his nose in it. It is so blatant and transparent, nothing more needs to be said about that. Furthermore, someone mentioned that the price of the varney cue in question in the for sale section bore out the truth of the cues real value. How so? If I'm not mistaken, Varney originally offered the cue for sale at a thousand dollars. I beleive the cue did actually sell for that price.
I also find it ridiclous to associate the number of posts to the credibility of the psoter. I have around only 450 posts, but close to 1000 rep points. It isn;t the quantity of posts or how long one has been posting that counts, but the quality of the contnet contained therin.
I don't think that varney lied. Ultimately, i beleive he embellsished the truth to help his business. To me this is far more acceptable than for the purposes to stroke his own ego. I think the two, however closely they may be perceived to be the same, are very different motives. Don't forget, Varney HAS quit his day job.
Kristi mentioned that this "isn't the first time" which led everyone to believe that there was a sordid past between these two and that this last "final straw" forced her to confront this unethical liar. We know have heard varney explanation with regards to "outing" a couple of sponsored players that were using 314 shafts conspicuously in the open. ALthough a very bad thing for the players involved, something surely understanbl as a rookie mistake, and not as evil as originally implied.
