You make a good point, that being that most people learn this lesson as youngsters on the school yard. You ridicule the kid with the ball and you're likely to find you no longer have a game to play in.

Invitational tournaments exist and have always existed in sports. Just because you are a tennis pro doesn't mean that you can play in the French Open, or as a golf pro in the US Golf Open. In addition, all mature organized sports (not pool) have a legitimate governing body which has rules, including ones governing personal behavior, that it's member pros must agree to follow, failure to do so sometimes results in fines, suspensions, and/or permanent banning from membership and events.
This attitude of entitlement in pool needs to be eliminated and this move by Mark may set the standard. Good for him, very good.

The people who organize tournaments do a lot of work for little or no reward - sometimes they lose money - and the last thing they need is a player to act like Rodney did. Nothing against Rodney, he seems like a decent guy, but he was way out of bounds. I sort of feel bad for the guy but I'd have banned him also if I was in Griffin's situation.
It's not like 50,000 people showed up just to watch Rodney. The tournament will go on without him.
Rodney himself says he is living day to day. Then he has to find someone to put him in the tournament (obviously had trouble doing that or could've happened before the late fees kicked in). Now says he is going to do his own events? With what/who's money?
Mark Griffin put in close to $100,000 into the three CSI U.S. Open events last summer. I can guarantee you he didn't make that money back as it was free to go watch them.

Well said. The blanket disrespect shown by some for those who produce, finance, coordinate, officiate and participate in events is just pathetic, emblematic of this low point in the fortunes of pool in America.
The only thing one can say in Rodney's favor is that Earl, who can be counted on to embarrass the game every time he competes, is worse!
It's the job of guys like Mark Griffin and Mark Wilson to cleanse our sport of those who disgrace it, even though guys like Rodney and Earl will always have countless apologists on this very forum and throughout the world of pool. Lucky for us, the Marks take this job seriously.
Earl being Earl? Rodney being Rodney? Who needs any of that? Contrastingly, American pool players being professional would be nice.
