Being Canadian...I am off to Cuba in December for my 10th Anniversary. I was just wondering if any knew of any cue or case makers down there?

Thanks

Jason

Altho their is no doubt some pretty serious craftsmen in Cuba, I doubt there is a market for cues or cases.

Now, if you were inquiring about Ceegars, thats a different story.

Oh, I live in Regina, if you don't smoke, you can always send me a treat.
Have a fun trip. Many of my friends go to Cuba and always have a great time.

Looking forward to hear what you see and find as far as cuemakers , and maybe available wood , Thanks Jim

Lol

I wouldn't be worried abouit going to Cuba, I would be worried about being able to come back!!!:smile:

Couldn't find any Cuban Cuemakers, but Bert Schrager, listed in the International Cuemakers Association ICA, was born in Cuba. He resides in California I believe.

There are no cuemakers in Cuba. There are only a few pool tables here and there in the tourist venues. Pool was, and is, looked down upon by the communist government.

There's also nothing in Cuba for ordinary Cubans except lack of everything...no freedom, no hope, no decent housing, nothing.

You'll have a great time in your hotel/resort and you'll have all the food you could eat, but you won't see one single ordinary Cuban at any of the hotels or tourist restaurants (aside from the workers)...they can't afford it, and even if they could, they are not allowed there. It's called 'economic apartheid'.

One thing you will find plenty of are whores, and thanks to the free education most of them have advanced degrees.

I worked with a snooty woman with an MBA that divorced her husband. She was really ticked and make this comment "He was F***ing his secretary and she doesn't even have a degree. I laughed and said " Just goes to prove that experience is worth more than an education." Then added " Plus I never knew you needed a education to be able to F***." It turned into one of those Kodak moments.

Why?! Anyway...

I didn't know there was a lack of pool playing there. Is this true with billiards as well?

Columbus said of Cuba it was the most beautiful land human eyes had ever seen. Have a great trip, consider me jealous. I think you should look into the cue making thing. In Spanish cues are normally called "tacos." "Hay un hombre lo que fabrica los tacos de billar?" Maybe not perfect, but it would work :)

Thanks for all the serious comments.

And thanks for all the humour...a couple of them made me fall out of my seat at work.

As for the Ceegars...I do indulge and will be coming home with a couple of boxes...

Thanks again for the posts

i think the carribean spanish would use "palo" instead of "taco".

also might be easier to say
"busco un talo de billares hecho en cuba".
just sayin

vaya con dios:smile:
