Hi Gang,

A little test for all you cue aficionados. Can you ID this recent acquisition? This one is a little tricky. Note: This is not a mystery cue with no known answer available to man. I'll give the answer later (if necessary, and I don't think it will be...you guys are SHARP!). Hopefully, the pics will come out good enough to help you figure it out! Good luck!

I'm relatively new to collecting. My guesses are either Bert Schrager or Richard Black.

forearm looks like a scruggs...he does his 6 pointers this way....butt looks like a black or tad..........

is the cue a mutt?

Nice tries so far except for "Deep" (I've got more faith than that for anyone that uses White Diamond tips!).

I was thinking Spain as well, what put me off is that most Spain's have the pin the shaft. I should have said Spain blank, ahwell. Nice detective work there Fast -n- Loose.

Could be a Spain blank or at least represented as a such but the dark stain color throws up a red flag. Why cover up good wood with a stain that dark? I'm going to say it's a Adam blank converted by Richard Black.
 
Very good, Murray! I had the same problem because of the dark stain on the forearm.

You guys have part of it (but which?). The co-maker is in the Bluebook of Cues, and it even gives credit to the other guy.

Think Oklahoma...
 
No Jim, but damn good thinking! I had forgotten about Prather being in OK...

Well, I don't think it's a secret anymore that the forearm is Burt Spain's. I had one of Burt's old catalogs which described the veneers and their color arrangement perfectly (Model #29), but couldn't figure out the dark stain, and the Tad/Black looking butt was also a strange mix and match for Spain points (Oorah Murray!). By the way, Joel Hercek also verified the Spain points...

Any other ideas? You guys are amazing!

It's a Burton Spain Blank cue built by John Guffey.

When I said Oklahoma, I expected someone to think Verl Horn... Nice logic, Joey! Not Verl Horn, though. It's funny because I traded a hybrid Nova with Verl Horn points toward this cue.
 
The only current OKlahoma Cue makers I can think of are:

Kent Taylor
Jim Aurbach
John Guffey
Steve Kornele


Beyond that I'm at a loss. My best guess was Jeff Prather. So who is it?!?!?!
