First look I was thinking old ADAM but after looking over more I was thinking possible 80's - 90's Taiwan Adam copy. Stamped weight bolt is throwing me. At one time ot another, someone did a crappy garage refinish.

Any help or comments welcome. I am not looking for value.

Have a good weekend,

-Kat,

Thank you H.E. > As mentioned, I was thinking ADAM, but pin, Butt cap as well as numbered weight bolt with hex were throwing me off.

-Kat,

What is stamped on the weight bolt?

I am intrigued by this cue and have several ideas I am mulling over.

That looks like a 14 pin, right?

If that's a Taiwan copy, I'd still like to own it.
...I like it.

Nice find.

I have no idea what it is, but if you want to sell it or trade it, send me a PM.

The joint screw is not typical Adam/Helmstetter and although it's a full splice blank, the way the veneers end short is not something I've seen from them either.

That veneering job looks pretty rough from what I can make out. It looks like a copy of a Richard Black cue.

Do you have a pic of the shaft insert?

Does not look like an Adam to me. They didn't tend to use white delrin for the buttplate, which this appears to be. Although the pics aren't really good enough to tell that...

Joint screw and pin do not look like Adam. The veneer color combination does not look like Adam.

Very interesting.

All the best,
WW

Agreed

Reminds me also of a Richard Black based on the joint rings and there was a Scruggs posted a while back with similar "washed out" veneers. Would appear to be some kind of knockoff as Tate said.

Thank you

Appreciate the feedback and comments. Sorry about the pictures. I had this handed to me Weds night after League from a friend and asked me what I thought and if I had any idea of it's brand, make model etc. I guessed late 70's, 80's possible early 90's ADAM but unlikely probably a Taiwan made cue until I took the bumper off it. Snapped a few quick pics but should have taken it with me for further investigation.

I have had quite a few Adam's pass through my hands as well as the Taiwan look alike's and have a pretty good idea of what to look for when these come up or I run across them but this one intrigued me as I like simple OG 4 pointer's and SP's.

I will get it into my hands so I and answer questions from croc ie: Pin, bolt markings, as well as whats under the bolt. I will also take some better shots.

I have some white green spec Blue Mountain here that would look nice on it.

Thanks again for your comments, have a good weekend and I will get back on this puppy.

+1

A Taiwan special - IMHO. And I've seen a lot of them.

One could buy butt blanks like this starting in the early 90s, as I recall.

Getting back

Ok so snagged the cue to take home and take a better look and a few more pictures. Here are my confirmed findings.

5/16x14 confirmed
Joint looks like nickel not SS
Collars are Linen Phoenolic
Weight bolt had 4 circles no letters or numbers
14.2oz without bolt 14.9 with.

The shaft is the kind of old growth, tight grain with straight splines I am always looking for. Has that nice 'honey' patina as well.

Unfortunately, this cue appears to have been shut in a car door or something that damaged points on direct opposite sides and the ends ebony on points so look kind of sloppy on those sides where they meet with veneers. It was sanded with amateur brush re-finished at one time to cover up mishap. I can see and feel where the veneers were damaged after getting into my hands.

Again, not looking for value. I am not sure what it is but leaning towards 80's Taiwan and would not even have bothered up dating this post but still unsure and I promised I would get back.

Any more help appreciated and have a good weekend.

-Kat,

One more try > Thinking many were at SBE over the weekend. Hope to make it one year.

Comments welcome and thanks,

Once again, IMHO - some anonymous cue maker acquired a Taiwan made full-splice blank
and completed it into a finished cue.

when you take the weight bolt out does the but cap come loose. if so are there two nipples on the bottom of the butt cap that go into holes on the butt sleeve for allignment ?

Thanks again Dale. That was my take pretty much out of the gate, but hey, I am no expert.

Tommy > Negative. The cap does not slip off with removal of weight bolt.

Thanks,

-Kat,
