Cue Makers Hall of Fame (-R-)

There are a select few cue makers in the Cue Makers Hall of Fame. I wonder if a cue maker such as my good friend Jerry Rauenzahn (-R-) has a chance of getting inducted. He is a custom one man operation who does all his own work and in MHO is excellent and has some of the sharpest inlayed points (Non CNC)I have ever seen.

Your thoughts

I have no idea what criteria is involved for induction into the Cuemaker's HOF.

However, I am very familiar with the work of Jerry -R- and would not be
surprised at his admittance sometime in the future. Very, Very Nice Work.

If you are talking about the American Cuemakers Association, the criteria for induction can be found HERE

There is more to it than just making a good cue.

Wow

Thanks Turd...that is some hefty criteria...but it makes good sense.

I appreciate your post

Criteria #3 could be brutal to new, up-n-coming Cuemakers with
the terrible economy and bargain-basement prices for Cues. A guy
could starve to death trying to get 20 yrs. of cue-making behind him.

3. The nominee has been involved in cuemaking for a minimum of 20 years.

He won't make a hall of fame, but I have the utmost respect for his work and his work ethic. I like Jerry and his craftsmanship a lot, and he is the "go to" guy to make a cool retro cue or a conversion at a fair price.

The Hall of Fame is for the legends - here they are:

George Balabushka

Herman Rambow

Burton Spain

Harvey Martin

Gus Szamboti

Frank Paradise

Eugene and Ilona Balner

Ernie Gutierrez

Dan Janes

Jerry Franklin

Bill Schick

Richard Black

All of these cue makers were leading edge innovators and major contributors who shaped the art or techniques used to craft cues or produce them.

So "locks" as far as legends go we still have Barry Szamboti, Tad Kohara, and Bill Stroud who I think most agree would belong there. Personally, I think Thomas Wayne should be there. Then there is a whole tier of newer cue makers who will make their marks with their incredible art, innovations and techniques.

So the journeymen, competent craftsmen like Jerry may not get there, but in MY personal Hall of Fame he's right up there on that pedastal.

Jerry Rauenzahn.......WHO DAT?

Some day Jerry Rauenzahn will make it into the Cue Makers Hall of Fame. He has more than enough time in already. His old school hand cut points-of-perfection (non-CNC) are some of the tightest, cleanest, even points out there.

However, I'm sure Timmy Scruggs will beat him to it. (<:

You are right Timmy made a great cue as well. Jerry as far as I know, and I have known him since 1971, never had anyone teach him to make cues. He did it by trial and error. Timmy had the benefit of learning from another good friend of mine, whom I have also known since 1971...Dan Janes. Both make/made great hand cut infinity points !

Palmer Tribute Cue

A Palmer Tribute Cue that Jerry just finished.

Russ, do all of the 8 points have 4 veneers? If so I have never seen an 8 point full splice cue with 4 veneers on all 8 points. Has anyone else ever seen one. Every 8 point full splice I have seen only has 4 with veneers, the rest are single points. Is yours the first ever!!!

These bad pics from Jerry should answer your questions!!

I will post up better ones after I get the cue.

Your thoughts

I have read all of the posts on this subject to this date.

Someone mentioned Tad Kohara as a possible future member. Not so, because he was inducted this year.

As the Chairman of the American Cuemaker Association's Hall of Fame Committee, I can assure you that everyone mentioned so far are viable candidates. We will not rule anybody out that even comes close to fulfilling the requirements. As the criteria states, the candidate need not fulfill all of the requirements, but if he falls short in one area, he must excel in others. We do not limit eligiblity to ACA members. Everyone will be cosidered.

In addition to those named in these posts, a couple not mentioned are:
Paul Mottey, David Kersenbrock, Samsara, Richard Helmstetter, and Mike Bender.

There are lots of cuemakers that do exceptional work, but will probably not be nominated due to weaknesses in the other criteria. I won't mention them, however.

Thomas Wayne and David Kersenbrock were nominated several times, but the ACA voting membership chose others.

Thanks Mr. Jim Buss

I do feel Mr.Jerry Ravenzahn has been in business Just Like Gus and George. He definitely does Fronts and veneers like no others. I have a -R- with the szamboti propellers and the wedge ++.I think there are others in line as well, but the board should be getting the Ravenzahn Name to come in more frequently. How about Showman - Hagan, and 1000. others. What about a woman cue maker Laurie Franklin?? Jim didn't you have a rep. for being 1 guy to do the 26-1/2s at one time?? thanks in advance for all comments ,mark
