Cue sold on Ebay and Paypal question

Paypal how many of us wish there was a better alternative??? I have gotten to where I want to get away from paypal all together. I knew when EBAY made it mandatory to have a paypal account that they were going to use it as a way to do what they want to do with paypal. Paypal sucks and they are making it harder and harder on the seller and in effect making it alot easier for the seller to get ripped off. Alot of people have gotten away from paypal and refuse to use and I am quickly joining that camp also...

What a crock. Maybe back to the age of money orders :-) Don't mess with peoples money, and that is what paypal is doing seems like to me.

So what if the seller receives the item and takes weeks to say he got it? That mean you wait weeks for the money on hold?

Thats exactly what it means.....and anything sold over 500.00 will be like this from what the paypal rep told me.

You could prob request buyer to make separate payments of <500, but I bet flea-bay wouldn't be happy to hear of it...

Cues sold on Ebay and Paypal question

Everyone is overlooking one thing....guess who is holding the $$$ (and benefiting from the $$$) during the waiting period, (not counting already making $$$ off the transaction) ?????

PayPal...PalPay...PayPal....PayPal

No, I absolutely thought of that....its basically a loan to paypal and they draw interest on it (if they can) and then send me my money....so they are pretty much making money off of me twice

PayPal also is forcing verified addresses on buyers. I have had a PayPal account since 2001. It is linked to account with little to no money in it so they can't lock an important account and my Paypal account has never had a CC attached to it. This caused my address to be "unverified".

I recently bought a cue case from an AZer. He would not ship me the case because Paypal would only support/authorize shipment to a verified address. Never had that happen to me before as a buyer. I had to use the ATM/Visa card for the bank account and add that data to Paypal. The address from the CC was then my "verified" address and he could ship me the case. I bought a cue off of eBay a few days ago. The email from the seller for payment also indicated they would only ship to a Paypal verified address.

Paypal has always pissed me off when it comes to playing the float. They would grab the money out of my account and then sit on it for days before turning it over to the seller.

Google is suppose to be coming out with a service to compete against Paypal. I hope it is better becauise I, like many others, am looking for an alternative to Paypal.

This is a pain in the ass. I dont know about the whole 500 dollar thing, they are doing it to me on an item I sold for $125. It seems the quickest way to get the money out of pending status is to enter tracking information into paypal. Once the item has been delivered the money will transfer into your account. Or so they say...

I cant even begin to fathom how much money a company like paypal, with no real competitors to speak of, rakes in each year. I can even imagine they would have much overhead. Its one of those "doh, why didnt I think of that" companies.

I dont do much on ebay, I buy RC cars/trucks/airplanes, and some other small items...I have sold a few high dollar gasoline welders (2-3K) and had no problem...my wife on the other hand, has an Ebay buisiness and deals with paypal every day...this was the first she heard of it. Her 3-4hr a week buisiness makes her approx 25k a yr....we have just talked and she and I are pretty much done with paypal...we will still have an acct for small items, and keep very little money in there, but thats it. It is not linked to one of our main bank accts. We usually had a balance of 2500.00 in there. I have transferred all but 10.00 into my main bank acct. I do not ever want this to happen to me again..I do not feel its right for them to (hold) my money. I understand they said its to protect the buyer and seller, but the underlying factor is, I feel they are bending me over and taking me twice...ouch:mad:

I do hope google comes out with something better...I will be behind it 100% but for now, I am pretty much done with paypal.

I put a Farris cue up for sale on Ebay maybe 2 hrs ago..I put a buy it now at 850.00.. The cue sold in about an hr. It said the funds were in my paypal acct. I checked it, and the funds were in there but said

On Hold-Ship now

I read a little more about it and it said that they would release the funds one the guy recieves the cue. I have 100% feedback on ebay with 36 items sold and purchased and 4 of them items I bought that were over 5K. and 6 items I sold that were approx 2500.00.

I have never heard of this funds being in your acct, you ship the cue, once the person recieves the cue paypal will release the money.

Have any of you ever had this happen? I hate to ship a cue and then the person somehow take the money back or whatever. Any ideas of suggestions?

Im not here to rip anyone off or be ripped of, I just want to protect myself and you guys here are top notch and are always looking out for fellow AZ'ers!

Thanks guys,
Shawn
I sold a mobile phone for $200 on ebay. After a month of no payment, I asked if they intended on paying for it and they said they changed their mind. I wrote them and said as it is legally binding, they are obligated to pay or I'd seek legal recourse. They made payment that next day and I ot that same hold message. With this whole "changed their mind" crap, I was afraid they'd cancel the transaction once I shipped so I phoned Paypal. After speaking with them, they said that the seller could not get the funds back like that and that the funds were there, just waiting to be released. The funds would be released after I put in tracking info or the buyer leaves positive feedback. So I shipped the phone with insurance and delivery conformation just to be sure they got it, and put that data in Paypal. That buyer never did leave me feedback, but a few days later the funds were released.

i went through this same scenario about 2 months ago. i contacted the buyer and told them the situation and they agreed to do a "transer" of funds to me instead of an "ebay transaction". that wa they just sent me money and ebay wasnt involved. paypal only does this with ebay transactions. but, you have to refund the money that is on hold to the buyer first. thats what we did and they were still able to leave feedback on ebay. hope this helps.

From ebay wThe exact wording about these changes taken directly off of the eBay website are as follows:

Safe Payments Requirements
Last January, Bill announced that all new sellers would be required to offer PayPal or a merchant credit card as a safe payment option. This requirement gives buyers a higher degree of protection when transacting with sellers who have little or no track record.

This year we're expanding this requirement to the following sellers:

a small number of sellers who have the worst buyer dissatisfaction rates
sellers with less than 100 feedback
sellers who list in certain categories with higher rates of buyer complaints.
Also, for a small number of these transactions paid with PayPal, when eBay suspects the transaction may result in a dissatisfied customer, PayPal will delay release of the payment funds to the seller until the buyer has left a positive feedback or 21 days have passed without a dispute.

I'd like to put context around this last detail for our good sellers: Sellers with an established track record and more than 95 percent satisfied buyers in the last 30 days will not have funds held. And, sellers on eBay will continue to receive the vast majority of payment funds much faster than other marketplaces.

Yea, I have no idea why or how this happened..I have 100% feedback on ebay with (im guessing 37 transactions). Only reason I can think its happening is there has been alot of fraud with cues on ebay. People saying a cue is something its not..so they are taking these precautions.. It appears to be legitimate..and thats fine, I just have to ship the cue and wait for my money....this time...will do it another way next time...Live and learn..

Thanks for everyones help!

Contact the buyer by phone and make sure you both know what is going on. You need personal contact on a transaction like that. Funny how well things go when no one is anonymous.

We have been in contact and we were both suprised by what happened. I have a feeling it will work out, I just have to wait for my money now till he gets the cue..and then a 3 day wait until the funds are released.

I have to figure out how to get around the hold payment.

I am going to be putting one of my Searings up on Ebay in the next couple of weeks and dont want this to happen again.

Same thing happened to me,If you ship usps and pay online for the postage ,the proof of delivery becomes automatic when it has been recieved ,your funds will be released. It's paypal way of protecting the buyer and putting the burden on the seller .Of course thats nothing new!! Thats why I don't use e-bay any more. Hang in there and good luck

Happened to me too, and I had over 100 transactions wth 100% feedback. The buyer said the item was not as described and filed a dispute. I was in the middle of moving and did not see the dispute notification from paypal. I use a different email for ebay and paypal than my normal one. The 21 days had passed before I knew something was wrong. Paypal refunded the buyer his money (over $700.00). I lost the item and the money. I also recently sold an item over $500.00 and had the same thing happen as you, with paypal grabbing the money a few days after I had shipped the item. I had already made payments for other items with some of the money they put on hold. Paypal reversed these payments after some of these items had been shipped to me. Problem was, that they locked my paypal account up, so even after I transferred money into paypal to cover what I owed payments on, they would not let me re-send the payments. On top of that the buyer of my item was so spooked by the paypal mess he sent the item back to me. So now it just got even more complicated.

My advice is do not ship the item and offer the buyer escrow.

Im gonna ship it fed ex, insured for what the cue is worth, and have a delivery confirmation and adult signature required.....Hopefully it will all work out.

Hey Shawn,
Do not ship the cue!!!
As I have posted many times on AZ, I do not believe Paypal has your best interest at heart.
I would not accept a Paypal payment from my Mother.
In my opinion if you do business with Paypal long enough they will steal from you.
Remember my motto: NO PAYPAL!!!
