Cue Tip Size And Shape Effects

Balance reminds me of playing with a commercial mop that had been marinating in the old mop water from mopping the floor in a biker bar for about three months. The main goal was just to keep that thing from dripping on you!

That wettish mop weighed about ten pounds, maybe more. I found the ticket to be to let the wet mop strings swing then time the shot to the neutral part of the mop swing.

That mop was taken away from us when even bikers started whining about the smell!

Just watch out for that Kramer guy if he has a conductor baton......."This tables mine"

Using the video to answer your question, it depends on the shape of your 10.5mm tip. If it was larger than dime shaped, that may have caused your miscues. Reshape tip to dime shape.

Was the tip already dime shaped when you miscued?
It had started at dime shaped, but had rapidly flattened out through use. I've reshaped.

All I know is, when I used a cue with a 1 inch diameter tip, I couldn't get any draw spin at all.
Not surprising.

Dr. Dave has never, to my knowledge offered his content, as the end all be all. For that matter, he has never gone out of his way to initiate a personal attack on another member. If someone believes that Dr. Dave's content is "the gospel," it would seem to me that it's their problem, not his.
He's offering content on a pool forum, not giving medical advice.

Differing opinions are fine. Constantly harassing contributing members is not. I really fail to see the confusion here.
Best regards

I’m not arguing his opinion on the topic. I don’t agree with most of his topics, but that’s not my point. The vicious fanboys that hold onto his word he says as all knowing fact need to get a life.

Great you know how a balls spins but can’t figure out the proper way to run three balls consistently

To my knowledge, it's generally not THAT someone disagrees with Dr. Dave that is the problem...it's how. The "fanboys" aren't some obedient legion of minions that DD unleashes upon his detractors...

There seems to be a few folks who can't seem to disagree with contributing members, or anyone for that matter, without lobbing insults or personal attacks into the mix. That is what grows tiresome, and drives folks away from sharing content.

This is false.

Kind regards,

Dr. Science, PhD.

the broom stick wasnt a bad part of the thread but as i see baby talk has now entered into it.
all the good will soon be forgotten.
sad. and it reflects on the site in general.

I used to think the site was a mess but I changed my opinion after popping into Reddit for a while. It makes the trolls here look easy to manage, because at least they have some conviction about some idea underneath their back-of-the-classroom attitude.

I am going to test a whole bunch of stuff with the DigiBall and compare to the variation on what a robot can do. If something like the tip roundness variation is less than the variation of a robot, it means that it is less important in a stroke.

If you think this is bad, you ain't seen nuthin' when compared to the wild west days of shoot outs on main street and bar brawls every hour on the hour starting back around 15 years ago and into the present. He wasn't the one being attacked but it was a couple of other instructors along with any member that touted and used the method of playing the game being taught by them. Even top pro players got attacked for sharing methods on how they played the game and ended up leaving.
"Fanboys" aren't unleashed by anyone, they act on their own for better or worse based on success gained.

It started waaay before you got here or knew this place existed. And it wasn't Alciatore who was being attacked or ridiculed for
putting out material for ways to play the game. Unfortunately, there wasn't a moderator doing a single thing about it like you're trying to do now. Equal treatment might have been a solution to nip it in the bud. It seems to be the nature of the beast with any and all forums regardless of the subject matter. Politics the worst. Hail to the internet!!

I once lost badly (at pool) to guy who played with an unlubricated condom on the end of the broomstick.
I was playing in a snooker tournament years ago and matched up with a friend and was down 2-0 going 4/7. I knew he had a sense of humour and they had a condom dispenser in the bathroom. I bought a packet and put the condom on dangling from the butt. He asked WTF is that and I said I'm gonna play safe lol. He started laughing as did everybody else and I played 7-8 shots without going for a ball and talked to my cue and said play safe lol.It was a shark move on my behalf and taking him out of stroke worked and I beat him.

The video didn't mention lumpy tips. Once in a while I get a tip that gets out of shape like not a perfect dome shape. When I hit the cue ball it goes doink about ten degrees off of where I was aiming. I don't remember that happening when we used harness leather tips. I had a store bought tip go bad on me a while back. One side of the tip was hard as a rock and the other side was like a sponge. I pulled a stringer out of that tip a foot long with a pair of tweezers.

a broom and my own set of balls =)

i once had an instructor show me that no matter the tip size the mark that was made on the ball was the same size.
