Cuemaker build off

I know some cues have arrived at Erics...awaiting word from him on how many is there......we had 2 builders drop out because they couldnt meet the deadline...we have 2 more stepping up to fill that void...This is taking a little longer than expected, but should be starting pretty quickly...I know I am going crazy cause I want to try the cues out!

Eric should either be sending me an email or giving me a call today or tomorrow and I will post where we are at...or if he sees this he can let us know..

Thanks guys!!!
Cool man. Thanks for putting all of this together. I know I appreciate it.

BVal <----is excited too. :)

OK...A Very bad image just flashed through my head....Bad image go away, Bad image go away

I agree with whoever said not to make a standard taper. The whole idea of this is to get an idea of what each cue maker has to offer with their cue. If you restrict them to materials, tapers, etc... then you are actually taking away their signature. I'm not too fond of the wood to wood joint either. If one particular cue maker uses that type of joint all the time then so be it, but each cue maker should make the cue according to how they make the cue.

I think the only thing that should be specified is a price range of their cues. Say an 800 or thousand dollar cue. Other than that they should be left to their own device to make an impression with their work. If you do anything other than that then there really isn't a true representation of what they create.

just my opinion

I agree....

What my thinking was on this is. I order a cue to my specs from a cue maker. Basically the cue we have for this build off is a simple cue that I would order. The cue builder does the best he can with the materials chosen. The builder had a chance to turn down making the cue. So this tells me that they would normally build a cue to these specs. I did not want to make a cue builder make a cue that he would not normally make for this event. I wanted his best efforts into this cue so we as testes (:D)can get a feel as to what his cue plays like. So far Eric has stated that the cues he has recieved hit absolutely NOTHING alike....so I think we are all in for a real treat!

The next build off we will be doing will have 2 extremely well known cuemakers that have a huge waiting list for thier cue. The cue will have very little restrictions on materials, but they would have to build this cue to sell somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500-2500 or so....price to be set at a later date. The buildoff for the next round will be video taped as best we can by each builder and I have a cousin that does professional editing for a hollywood studio that will edit it so all can see. This buildoff is basically a trial and error run but I think it is gonna be fun and turn out great.

As of right now, Eric has recieved 2 cues. I will send the other cue builders an email to see what is going on. This is taking longer than I expected, but thats ok..this is something to be fun for all of us, and help the cue builders out. I will let everyone know what is going on.....thanks guys...

I have to admit that I didn't read all 20 pages of this thread. Given that.....

Who are the cue builders participating?

Can I still get on the list as a tester?

Thanks.

if you lived between ft gibson and tahlequah you used to live by me...I live on 6 mile road...6 miles east of Ft Gibson....right on the creek (Maynard Bayou)

The cue builders names will not be disclosed till after the build off.....I will put you on the list as a tester

Thanks for putting me on the list.

I was about 2 miles inside the Cherokee county line, right on 62, north side of the road. I used to dove hunt in the creek area. But that was many years ago.

I'm really looking forward to this. I can't wait to test these beauties!

Me either....Unfortunately, we had a cuemaker drop out yesterday. Eric has recieved 2 cues so far....cues built the same, but with 2 totally different hits....Yes, this is gonna be fun to hit with these cues...it will be neat to see some cues built to the same specs, but with totally different hits. I want to see what cue builder can really stand out. Everyone will have their own personal favorite, so no cuemaker participating will lose out.

We have had 2 cue builders step up to fill the voids from the ones who dropped out, so I think we will be ok. So we have had to pust the date back...but the rest of the cues should be arriving at Erics soon

The names of the builders will be released at the end of the build off. We will then auction off all the cues and the custom case JB Cases has made just for this event....Thank you JB Cases! And Thank You to each cue builder involved, Eric Crisp of Sugartree Cues for taking his personal time to give an initial inspection of the cues and to provide feedback. And to all the AZ'ers that are participating in one form or another...you guys are great!

I will keep everyone posted

Regards,
Shawn Smith

It has been brought to my attention that I have made the first mistake of my life just now

If you have asked to be a tester and your not on the list.....please accept my apology......hit me up so I can add you.....for a nominal fee of course :D

Also, a website has added us so more people can be exposed to this....

http://poolgoog.com/

how much is the fee? i want in on this testing deal

Are there any of the corre tester's in the Columbus OH area? I would be willing to travel to them and pay a nominal fee. Please PM me if this is possible. Depending on when, I would be willing to drive 1.5 - 2 hrs away!

There is no fee to be a tester....that comment I made was me being sarcastic.. I am not in this to make money...I am just in it to test out sme cues I would normally never have a chance to hit with....with the hopes of finding a cue that hits like I like....and I hope this is what everyone else is in it for...im sure you guys are. And it gets the cue builders name out there where it normally would not get exposure

We have had 2 cue makers back out saying they cant complete a cue in the time that we had originally agreed upon....Thats fine, and I understand things happen and sometimes you cant do what you said you could do. I wouldnt want these 2 cue builders to throw something together and them not be able to put out the best cue possible...That would not be fair to them. I do thank them though for at least trying.....you guys know who you are!!!!

This is going to take a little longer that we had expected, but thats fine...we just want to test hit some cues.

We are currently looking for 2 cue builders that would like to step up and build a cue for this build off so we will have 7 cues...

Please dont let me know on the forum, but send me a pm....I would like to keep this as confidental as possible until the end....

These are the specs on the cues to be built

Here is a rundown on how the cues were built

1. The cue will have a lightly figured BEM forearm and butt

2. Handle will be Maple or Purpleheart, wrapped or wrapless (up to cue builder) if you specifially build all your cues with PH then use PH.

3. Cue builder to decide to core or not to core

4. cue builders personal taper on shaft

5. Cue builder to use Molavia Medium tips

6. Builder's to use black phenolic collars, buttcap

7. Cuemakers choice on ferrule, pin

8. Weight will be 19oz +/- 0.2oz

9. No ringwork, inlays, points, signatures or trademarks

10. have integrity & build the cue as if somebody had ordered it, the same way you'd build all of your cues.

Hello ftgokie, hope all is well and you were able to get everything sorted out/resolved with what was happening. That was a hit awhile back and I hope that you were able to recover.

Question, are you or Eric going to post pics of the cues and case before this tips off?
