Cues and Guitars.....are they so different?

Both handcrafted from exotic woods. They are both beautiful and they are both fit for purpose. Showman, Szamboti and Paul Reed Smith.

The Paul Reed Smith is a Custom 22 Artist, quilted maple (Artist Grade), mahogany, abalone and Brazilian rosewood, one of the finest guitars I have ever owned. The Showman and Szamboti.....well.....the best of the best also.

I can't run a five pack with the PRS but then I can't do Santana licks on the Szamboti and Showman:)

Just a different thread.....showing cues with a twist. Anymore guitar/cue combos out there people want to share?

Thanks mate. Yes, the top on this PRS is one of the best I have seen. It is quilted and flamed. Spent a long time looking for the right guitar. I wanted a Gibson Les Paul 59 reissue but as soon as I picked this up, i knew it was the one for me. We have a hard time in the UK getting guitars with a maple cap like this one.....you Americans like to keep all the good stuff to yourselves:smile:

I've got my eye on a '59 reissue for my son, and as soon as he starts playing real good I'm gonna get him one. Super Instrument Si!

Prs

Sweet PRS Si. Didn't know you played geeetar. My friend has a PRS back from when he was making them out of his garage. Great guitars. I'm a Gibson/ESP kinda guy myself.

Cheers Tommy and Tommy. I am sure I will end up with a 59 at some point.

Rex....a PRS from Paul's garage days is worth a whole heap of drinking vouchers these days. If you have a picture, I would love to see it.

Owned a number of Gibson guitars, including a Custom Shop 57 Gold Top and a Custom Shop Les Paul Junior. My favourite was just a plain black Les Paul Standard from 1989. That guitar ROCKED.

Paul Reed Smith has made Limited Edition "Dragon" guitars with inlayed dragons on the neck.

Dan Janes of Joss Cues consulted with P.R.S. on the CNC design and inlay work.

I also collect cues and guitars and although there are similarities and differences:

Differences

I've never heard my old classic Stratocaster referred to as a "production" guitar

I know several bars where I could take my guitar or my pool cue and play, but you wouldn't take your Les Paul Custom into a pool room and play it

It's easier to re-sring a guitar than it is to put a new tip on a pool cue

When I play pool at home my neighbors don't complain

I've never gambled away a guitar in Jam session

Playing the blues is a good thing on the guitar, but I live the blues playing pool

When a guitar sounds bad it's the player, but when a cue sounds bad it needs to be repaired

You can sell a pool cue on AZ Billiards, but not a guitar

Similaraties

You can't take either of them on an airplane

you can "jump" playing either pool or guitar

You can meet girls playing pool or guitar

We try to copy the masters in music & pool

Both collections are a pain to take care of

Well Put

Very well put!!!

I dont play or collect guitars but have been around some very nice custom guitars as my buddies do...one had two very very very nice PRS's a blue and a red...loved the fiddleback red for sure...my all time favorite was the sunburst vintage Les Paul it was so thick and rich sounding!!!

There are definitely more guitar fanatics than pool fanatics for sure...Another one to add, everyone can play guitar AND pool. However, I dont know which is worse, watching a bad pool player or a bad guitarist.

Nice thread Si,

Looks like you have great taste in both guitars and cues!

Speaking of Les Pauls, I had a Les Paul Classic Plus with a great Honeyburst top. I've been through guitars like I've been through cues, but that is THE ONE guitar I wish I would have kept. Just something about the way they play, sound and look.

I've been a Les Paul fan from the moment I heard Gary Moore's song "Still got the blues for you".

Add to similaraties: You can get beat out of your guitar just as
bad as you can your cue at a pawn shop.

question to those that collect both: Is the collectable guitar market in as
bad of shape as the collectable cue market at the present time ??

PRS Dragon Guitars...

For those that have never seen one, here's a few shots of the PRS Dragon guitars (2 different versions) that made their debut in 2002...

The guitar market isn't down at all compared to the cue market. I'm sure the prices of high end collectible guitars is down a little, but not noticeable. The cue market on the other hand...enough said

I've never seen one, what cool guitar, thanks for posting it.

Do you have the weight, balance point, neck diameter, what kind of strings are on it, and is it straight.

not very similar

IMO, they're not very similar, and I've owned and played both. While they're both wood, and other obvious attributes, they are really 2 entirely different items. Now, I've never owned very expensive guitars OR cues, but I have had VERY nice of both. Did you know the best wood is reserved for guitars usually? Its called "instrument grade", and has a very nice tone to it, when used for a guitar in my experience. IMO the only similarity is they're both made of wood, and can be collected by the eccentric :P

Damn bro, after reading this thread i now want to learn guitar. :speechless:
