Cuetec announces Carbon Fiber tentative price and....

The problem I had with the revo I tried was the all black shaft. I couldn't tell where my tip was in relation to the cue ball. It may be that my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be but there wasn't anything there to gauge the distance between tip and cue ball.

lol that's kinda what I was thinking. And I get it, because I use an OB and I have the one with the white ferrule just because it looks more traditional. I do wonder whether it adds a little to the weight of the end of the cue though. If it's a little higher deflection than it could be, and doesn't really add to the visibility, I don't know if that's a good trade-off for just a more traditional look.

Well, tradition can be a hard thing to get away from...
IMO, Cuetec is going to battle that simply with their name; still I hope it kicks A$$; competition is a good thing.

Won't be a problem.... I have used a R12.9 for a year. I hit for about 4-5 hours with the Proto C12.5 and given the choice I would stick with the C12.5 Hits very very nice...……..

I think the same thing.

For me, it is hard to gauge the distance between the tip and the cue ball when you are stroking really close to the cue ball.

It is MUCH EASIER to sight down the Becue's all white shaft and see the dark tip than it is to sight down the all black REVO.

I'm not knocking the REVO or even the Cuetec, which I've never seen...I'm just telling you I've played with both the REVO and the Becue and I bought the Becue because I thought it played better and felt more like a wooden shaft in hit and feel.

FWIW, EVERYBODY who has hit with my Becue has said how good it hits and plays. I haven't had a single soul say they didn't like the hit and almost every one of them could move the cue ball better with the Becue than they could with their own high-dollar custom cues.

I play a guy every Sunday who can't draw the cue ball two feet with his thousand-plus dollar custom cue, but he can double or triple his draw distance on the first try or two with the Becue.

There will be purists and nay-sayers, but eventually most cues will be made of something other than wood. I still have quite a few high-dollar production and custom cues, but I won't be buying any more.

I'm satisfied with what I have now.

Well I do play with a custom cue but did try a friends revo shaft and didn't really care for it. I'm not knocking them either it's just not for me. I've played all my life with a regular maple shaft and at this point in my life I probably always will. I'm not against change but at 51 years old my game probably isn't going to improve any if so it would be so small it wouldn't be noticeable

@Straightpool_99
you definitely do not need a glove on a Becue without paint. The shaft is extremely smooth without paint.

The Becue is as "smooth" as any cue, but the painted surface makes it feel a bit "stickier" than some other cues.

I use a glove and make the cue even "slicker" by spraying some of this on a micro-fiber towel and applying it to my shaft.

Cf shafts

IF, as has been suggested by garczar, who posted that he has spoken to a guy at Aldila and that they feel that making shafts for cues is easier that making golf club shafts AND that Predator is making a killing on the price, then why have THEY not produced any . . . ??

GEE, could it be that perhaps it is just not that easy and there is a significant amount of R&D that might be required since CF for fishing poles, and golf clubs might be different than for pool cues ??

Has absolutely nothing to do with it. If there was a decent ROI, they'd do it. But they sell more golf shafts in a day, than Predator sells Revos in a year.

GEE, could it be the fact that they're one of largest golf shaft makers on the planet and really have no interest in pool? They're one of the largest OEM and aftermarket shaft suppliers. Also make shafts for high-end hockey sticks. If they saw pool as a new and significant revenue stream they might try it. The number of golf shafts they make would always dwarf any cue-related sales they might get. BTW, MitsubishiRayon and Aldila are under the same corporate blanket now. They are a mega supplier of golf shafts worldwide. Why jack with pool?

Someone on a facebook posted a thing for preorders. MSRP was 449 and there was a note to check dealer prices that they set in December. So going by those images that were up, the shaft will be available at retailers in Dec.

Did you talk to an actual engineer that designs the golf clubs? I am an engineer myself, and have worked with hundreds of other engineers over the years. None of my engineering coworkers have ever belittled another type of product and said "yeah, we can do that with no problem, its child's play." The typical response is more like "We can try to tackle it, but until we have worked on it for some time, we won't know what type of challenges this product will present".

I saw on some of the pool internet stores that the street price for other Cuetech products is about 80% of their MSRP. If that holds about true for this carton fiber shaft, 80% of $450 = $360.

The Revo is being sold by dealers at Predator's MSRP of $499, whereas other Predator shafts are sold by dealers discounted from the MSRP. And of course, on the secondary market, the Revo is being sold above MSRP.

I think it will all come down to if the supplier can keep up with demand.

An aside: For years the Predator haters said the cues are "Chinese Junk". Now the Predator haters say they will never pay 500 for a carbon fiber shaft (that is made in the USA). ha ha. Can't win....

We will now see if the Chinese manufacturing capability of Cuetech is superior to the USA manufacture of Revo, and if the Chinese factory can maintain quality and keep up with demand.

I know I have told a lot of engineers and woodworkers "you make a better door than a window" when they were in my way, but they always got mad at me for some reason. Now I know why.

I'm sure there was zero R&D, machinery, labor, insurances, material costs involved with developing these hi tech golf shafts … that's why they are so cheap. Plus they have been on the market waaaaaay longer than pool cue shafts.
