I'm not sure that would make them look BAD, but thats a chance they took when they fired him...isn't it? I don't think anyone would or could blame them for firing Earl, after all, he did this to himself! I just hope he straightens up and acts right...He'll get a sponsor if he does that no problem IMO...He's really not a bad player, he just lets his attitude get in the way (kinda like me) lmao

Really? Be honest, and I mean really honest. How many of you have ever purchased a cue because a particular pro is playing with it? How many of you have spent any time trying out a cue because a pro was sponsored by that brand.

The cue that Earl used couldn't be considered a Cuetec anyway. He taped up the grip to huge proportions, he had the shaft, if it was even a Cuetec shaft modified beyond recognition.

If Cuetec is SO BAD then Earl is a bigger idiot than he acts on TV for sacrificing his game for a sponsorship.

He might actually play a little better now that the PRESSURE from his sponsor to actually act like a professional is removed.

You know, it's truly hilarious how many people want to discount the equipment's role in the overall performance and results, and YET in this case it's all the cue's fault.

Well people, if the CUE gets all the blame then it gets ALL the CREDIT as well for the 3 world championships Earl has won with the cue, for the US Open he won with it, for all the high finishes, for every victory in the last 16 years. Cuetec gets the credit for the Camel Tour win. Cuetec gets the credit for the million dollar run of 11 racks.

Since you are so ready to place blame on the cue are you just as willing to give credit?

Get off this track, it goes nowhere. If Earl snaps off a tournament with a different cue then it's because his head was in the right place and the stars lined up.

Exactly. Maybe this is the kick in the ass he needs, I mean come on the guy is one of the most dominate 9 ball players of all time. His personal life has drained him the last several years. Maybe a fresh start will be just the thing to bring the Pearl back to the top of the heap.

nothing wrong with Cuetec parting company with Earl

John,

There was nothing wrong with Cuetec parting company with Earl, however the way that they did it may indicate why they put up with him so long.

Birds of a feather?

Hu

I dont know about you, but the last time, i checked Cuetecs are Trashy Sticks.

I still cant believe people buy them, thinking they are a good cue.

I don't know, I didn't see the article, I don't know how they "did" it. Did they take out a full page ad disowning Earl? Did they inform him privately and the magazine made a story out of it with comments from both sides?

Are you speaking of the one comment by Jones Chang where he is quoted as saying that "when Earl loses, he loses himself"? I don't see anything wrong or untrue about that comment. I find it to be a very mellow way of saying that the company can't afford to support his antics any more. Certainy far more gracious than the the retort by Earl.

I am sorry but I don't quite follow the "birds of a feather" logic. Are you trying to equate the support of Cuetec and J-S Sales to the crazed lunacy of Earl Strickland?

I am open. Explain it to me and we'll discuss it.

Please explain what characteristics define a "trashy stick"?

Just curious to know what your definition of a good cues is and what a trashy one is.

I hope it's a little more concrete than personal preference.

I'm being really honest here. I tried out and bought a Schon because Johnny Archer used to play like God with one. He was always the consummate professional, and I think he got a LOT of my generation curious about Schons.

I know Schons have supposedly always been one of the highest regarded custom/commercial cues, but I personally tried one out because of Archer.

I *almost* bought a cuetec because of Earl. (yes I do think my almost counts because the only thing stopping me back then was money. I was already bugging my dad to buy me one, but couldn't justify it.)

There is no pro or serious amateur that would use a CueTec unless they were sponsored. Show me one pro that uses a Cuetec because it's a great cue, and I will eat my words.

Russ did you go out and buy a Scorpian cue also or even try one?:p ;) :D

John...from your comments here, it's obvious to most that you have no clue.

Cuetec looked real bad when they made their first cue. Their business has always been about making "trash sticks".

How can you say that? How can you just abuse a company like that?

This statement is so ignorant that it borders on Stricklandesque lunacy.

I see that I am cast in the role of defending a company against blatant and hypocritical statements such as these.

So, for the record, I have no personal affiliation with Cuetec. On the business side of the aisle the company I work for sells them and sells them well. As does every other major distributer in the United States of America.

I challenge anyone to define a Good Quality Cuestick and then to see if those definitions don't apply to Cuetec. And I am NOT talking about feel or hit. I am talking about the contruction, the fit and the finish of the cues.

I have no problem when someone says that they don't like the way a cue feels or plays. But to claim that the product is "trashy" or bad quality without proof is just mean and insulting.

And speaking directly to the FEEL and HIT aspects of a cuestick, Cuetec has listened to the players and HAS CONSISTENTLYTRIED to develop products that satisfy the more demanding and skillful of players.

So please refrain from making remarks like this unless you are prepared to provide something more than to be insulting because you can.

And hey Jimbo, if you are reading this, this is an example of a true insult without proof, not a perceived one. I am sure one of the soldiers in the JimboWorld fan club will let you know your name was mentioned.

That was pretty messed up there

Take a look at the cues on your website, that should give you great insight on "trashy cues".

That was one low blow there. Leave the guy's nuts alone, woman!

Good one.:)
Everyone should take a look at the damaged cue gallery. A lot of those quality cues seem to be accident prone.

No sir, I think it's obvious to most that you don't know what you are talking about, have no proof and are attempting to sling mud on a company that has done nothing BUT improve the state of pool during their existence so far.

But since you feel I don't have a clue, (why is everyone so fond of hurling that particular insult anyway?)

I propose a little bet.

We both submit our pool resumes to Mike Howerton and he will post them to the board without our names attached. We can let the board vote on which resume' shows the higher degree of qualification when it comes to pool topics of every sort.

I have $5000 that says I win. Surely you aren't afraid to put your money where your mouth is against a clueless person. Are you?

I will bet whatever you want to, money, pride, whatever. You can't win. The reason you can't win is because by your very comments and unwillingness to try and defend your ignorant, false and insulting statements by using either facts or logic it becomes clear that you possess neither.

I don't care who you are and how many "custom" cues you own. You are a dead nuts loser if you can't see the fallacy of your statements.
